Certain notes not registering?

Played a few times, and noticed it keeps "Miss"ing notes, even though I have no doubt in my mind I hit the key. Bought a new keyboard, thinking it was that, but I still have the same issue. Running firefox, with an dfjk spread.

Have you tried running FFR in standalone?

I have, with velocity. I had the same issue in both.

Re: Certain notes not registering?

Where are you playing the game? Are you using a Flash Player standalone, or playing directly on the site?

If you are using a Flash Player standalone, are you using the Legacy or Velocity engines, or are you using the newer R^2/R^3 engines? If you're unsure, you can verify by checking the links below:

Legacy: http://www.flashflashrevolution.com/FFR_the_Game.php (standalone: http://www.flashflashrevolution.com/ffrndanotherway.swf)

Velocity: http://www.flashflashrevolution.com/~velocity/ (standalone: http://www.flashflashrevolution.com/...y/ffr_Wide.swf)

R^2 engine: http://www.flashflashrevolution.com/...y/rSquared.php (standalone: http://www.flashflashrevolution.com/~velocity/R^2.swf)

R^3 engine: http://www.flashflashrevolution.com/...ity/rCubed.php
(standalone: http://www.flashflashrevolution.com/~velocity/R^3.swf)

If you're using the older engines -- does your speedmod end in a 0 or a 5? If it does, is it no more than 3 digits long after the decimal point? Do you play downscroll? There are some wacky things that have happened to me playing downscroll leisurely.

The older engines are very finicky in certain scenarios.

EDIT: Nearly all of my questions got ninja'd, hahahaha. Sorry -- just passing in to try and help! :)

In the same vein as what AJ said, try using a different engine.

It happens using all of them (tested to be sure). I'm testing using easy songs, to make sure I wasn't that rusty, and they keys work fine on stepmania, it's only on ffr.

Re: Certain notes not registering?

It may not be the same thing, but I have a similar problem (the outcome is the same, some notes doesn't register properly when I hit them).
I found no perfect solution but I found out that it was lag-related. Spikes of lag tend to create this, especially when the notes "bump" on the screen.

If this happens to you, you can try reducing lag, check this thread for some useful tips.

Re: Certain notes not registering?

Seems like the problem was actually firefox. I downloaded chrome and tried it, and it seems to be working fine.

Re: Certain notes not registering?

If you don't mind me asking -- what are the specifications of your computer? I couldn't help but notice that you have the Aero theme enabled for Windows 7, which takes up a fair amount of graphical resources/memory if you have a lower-end laptop/computer. I fall under this scenario and have to disable everything for the best performance.

Also, have you tried using the standalone Flash Player executable? Many people on FFR have reported that Flash Player 9 has worked well for them, and the only engine that is incompatible with Flash 9 is R^2 (which is outdated and irrelevant with R^3 being public - that is, if you haven't used it).

As a fellow Windows 7 user, I can speak for the detrimental effects of Aero themes. I was getting 100+ goods on Makiba before turning it off.

I have not. Also, can find my way around the OS, but not give specs.

Re: Certain notes not registering?

there's the obvious cause of keyboards not recognizing 3 notes at once based on which keys are hit... surprised no one brought that one up

but i think i had the same problem playing in-browser on velo engine. sometimes it would just miss :/
