This concludes the first FFR Music Contest, hosted by yours truly. I must say, this was a pretty successful first attempt at a contest. It was a tad disorganized, but live and learn, eh? The next contest will be more organized and fluent.

Congratulations to the top 3 winners!

In third place, Cyanite with his song, Believe! He will be awarded with a choice of a 3-month subscription or 10$.

In second place, Specforces, with his song, The Summer She Died! He will be awarded with 15$.

And in first place, the grand prize goes to Stargroup, with his song, Reflections of Summer! He will be awarded with a whopping 30$, and the honorary title of 1st FFR Music Contest Champion!

To all of the winners, please be ready to give me your paypal account so I can send over the money. I will PM you guys for details.

I just want to say, thank you everyone for participating! Thank you to all of the musicians who spent time composing their songs and submitting, all of the people who voted for the songs, and of course the FFR staff, because without them FFR wouldn't exist. Also a special thanks to Stargroup for allowing me to host the music on his website.

Don't fret if you didn't win this time, I am planning to host another contest in the winter, so stay tuned! If you are interested, or if you have any ideas for a theme, feel free to PM me.

And with that, the 1st FFR Music Contest is over!

Also, post in this thread of what you thought of the contest, what you liked, and what you didn't like!

infinity.

Cool.

Obvious theme for this winter is a winter-inspired song. Although I think you can easily do an autumn-inspired one as well.

Actually, doing one per season would be awesome. Though money prizes might be harder to provide.

Yeah, I'm too busy right now to do one in the autumn, so I'm going to wait and see how winter turns out. I was thinking of doing a winter theme, but maybe try something a bit more creative?

Also, I'm hoping to contribute bigger prize money in future contests, so it will persuade more people to join. (And maybe get front page attention).

Seasonal themes are creative enough.

It's hard to come up with themes that everyone is capable of using, given FFR's musical diversity

I have a few ideas, though, I'll elaborate on them when the next contest comes around.

Winter = ambient-themed.

Makes sense if you ask me.

The only reason I'm a bit skeptical on what theme I do is because not many people seemed to attempt the theme in the first place.

Also, I would rather not do a certain genre for a theme because that could hinder or totally exclude an artist from participating.

Yeah, a lot of the songs didn't sound very summer-themed. Including mine, though I tried to recreate both the energetic and down-times of summer in my song rather than actually have it "sound" like summer, which was probably what the theme was going for.

Winter-themed songs are probably categorized more by thin pads and bell synths than an actual mood. At least that's how I'd see them.

It'd definitely force some artists to step out of their boundaries, but in a way, that's why I think it's a -good- idea (look what turns up in the MACs at NG). I dunno, it was a pretty generic suggestion anyway. :P

If FFR had a music userbase like NG I would definitely consider genre themed contests, however I don't think FFR's is anywhere near as big.
