Congratulations to all those who participated! This was quite a successful tournament, and an interesting one too. Perhaps in the future, I can hold another one, bugger and better than before. I'll send all prizes and PMs in the morning, since it's very late, and I have to wake up to school in a few hours (ugh).


Finally, I got around to doing this. As the thread title states, this is a one-handed tournament. So make sure you know how many hands you play with before you sign up. :razz: If you don't and wish to join, I'll add you in at my own discretion (which is a yes or no), and I do prefer videos to get an idea of your skill level.

While I won't be asking everybody who wants to join for video proof, I will ask certain people for it, based on your skill level, whether I know you, your join date, etc. For example, somebody with 50 skill tokens, 250 FCs, and 50 AAAs who joins in, say, April, won't be asked for proof. But, if you joined in joined in June, and you've already got Battle Ax, PLANETZ, AAA'ed a bunch of 9s, and have FMO FCs, then yes, you will be asked for proof before I let you join, to ensure legitimacy. Blacklisted people may not join, due to the uncertainty of whether they are cheating or not. You can ask to be placed in a certain division, and I'll most likely place you there, but I will be looking at everybody's individual scores before doing so. If you have 50 FCs, but several of them are FMOs, you can forget being placed in Beginners.

The rules of this tournament follow:

No cheating.
You may not post a score you have previously attained on a song, this is considering cheating. I will know if you do this.
And make sure you play with one hand, of course.

Breaking the three rules above will result in disqualification.

Now that we've gotten past the boring part, here is how this will be set up:

I will be putting you all in a set of four divisions: Beginners, Intermediate, Expert, and Masters.

This tournament is score-based, not combo based. I don't feel it's fair for a good score to go to waste for a miss or two. So for example...

So which will be better? In this tournament, the former score.

To keep it interesting, not all rounds will be score based. We'll have an anti skill round, and possibly one that asks for an impossible req, then see how close you can get (if we have five rounds, though I don't promise the round will actually be done). That way, it'll take more than skill to stay in.

You need to submit a score either by a screenshot or via PM.


A thing to keep in mind is that certain one handers, mainly four fingered players, have skill far beyond almost any other one handers on FFR (such as korny and RB_Quackies), so unless we can get enough people of their skill level in this tournament (in which case I'll create another division), I'll have to prevent them from joining to keep it fair in the Masters division (they would basically be ensured a win if they joined without the extra division).


For the tournament, I plan to have four or five rounds, should enough people join. For each round, if you cannot score above the line needed to stay in, you get eliminated by the deadline. The same rule applies to tiebreakers. Eliminations are based on the number of people per division.



Red indicates you in imminent danger of being eliminated. Yellow means you are in possible danger of being eliminated in the future, orange indicates a tie on the elimination line, and turquoise indicates you are fine. Gray indicates an inactive division (only during tiebreaker rounds that don't apply to their division).

Bynary, may I suggest a specific category for spread/mixed players that are playing one handed separate from people who only play one handed? It's almost like a different skill level on its own. They may be terrible one handed players, but may also have the reading skills of a very advanced player. It's different than having someone new to FFR join the tourney at the beginner level. They could play the same songs, but have a different prize pool.

EDIT: I was actually thinking of two skill levels for spread players who are switching to one handed for this tourney - Beginner/Intermediate and Advanced, hence the 6 prizes below. I may edit exactly what I donate depending on how this is set up and based on Bynary's input, but I will throw in some subscriptions and the like.

well any fc's above challenging is spread, i only fc'ed a few challengings and one vc which is mute city. the mute city score i have now is also spread. i guess one of the better one hand scores that stayed that was was my TGWP4 score. forgot my actual score though in terms of goods and stuff. also fc'ed infernoplex on a laptop with flat keys, but really doubt i can do that on this keyboard. i think my infernoplex score is still one handed. but considering how long i've been off from one handing i think it'd be lucky for me to fc vd's.

And it's not that I don't think korny is legit, or that he isn't one handed. It is to keep it fair in the Masters division. If he were to join, he would most likely AAA or high SDG all the songs I put up, while the rest of us couldn't come close.

I was looking at the level ranks pages of others at the intermediate and expert level and I think I may have been incorrect about pushing to be in expert. I have been playing today and realized that, although I've improved my PA significantly for level 7 and below songs and am starting to FC VD and challenging songs, I wouldn't stand a chance on any Challenging or VC songs against that group. I just got cocky because I had a good week/weekend and was shredding some Tricky/Difficult songs (av rank below 1500, yeah!). I have accepted (again) that I still suck and am happy to bow to those of greater skill, most likely including a number at the intermediate level that are much better than me. If it's not too much trouble, I would humbly ask to play at the intermediate level, as you had suggested from the start, Bynary.

Well...I am inclined to place you in Intermediate, since you'd probably wreck beginners up to the end. But, if you can show me some scores of any VDs and Challengings (one of each is fine), I'll be able to place you much better, since I'll be able to measure your capacity on harder songs, and in turn, whether you are ready for that level.

Ahaha, you were hard to place. You're almost in the dead center between the two divisions, or it appeared that way at first.

What I did was go look at the stats of several people in Intermediate, and found your scores were about on-par with theirs, just a bit lower. So, I think Intermediate would be good for you, since your scores on Horizon, and even the others, blow the average Beginners player out of the water.

edit: tried cracking sky... 32-3-17-32 1st try. the 8th trill section owns me. can't figure out how to do the up-down trills, as i hit both up and down with my middle finger.

Yeah, when hitting up/down trills turn your hand sideways and reposition your index finger on the down key. It's way easier. (Except in very fast songs)

right. i'm sure that is easier. except i have a hard enough time doing simple 8th note stream or even jumps all by themselves when they involve up/down. i hit the wrong key way too often.

it isn't like i started playing 1-handed back in 2003 and then moved to spread. i started playing with 4 fingers intuitively. it's not an easy transition for me. and i've maybe played 50 games of 1-hand out of 33,000 over 5+ years.

i'll do what i can to improve and be competitive in the tournament, but realistically i don't expect to do that well.

I'm in the same boat. I started 2-hand 4-finger right off the bat. These are the first games I have ever played one-handed.

Also, when we have to do harder, streamy songs, I'm thinking about switching to one hand 4-finger. That way I can map all my keys to four horizontal keys, and if I have to do a trill, I'll just move my index/middle over a couple keys to do it.

There are quite a few AAAs in the Beginner's division...looks like there's gonna be a tiebreaker to me. This might apply to the Intermediate division as well.

@Tass: I played that song, and there weren't any jump-gallops.

Yeah, I completely agree. While I was nervous letting them in at first, I see my fears are unfounded. Plus, they get a chance to play a style they otherwise would never have considered trying...I love seeing people trying something new.

tass advice: if there is a AAA tiebreaker in the 1st round... just move all the AAAs to the 2nd round instead of having a tiebreaker. then eliminate more users in round 2.

i do not play spread, my normal playstyle is left index and right index, middle and ring on the arrow keys. i got really good at that, so for one handed i just have to move my right pointer more, so it's very similar.

Yeah, actually I've been learning this one hand 4 finger, using j k l ;. That's why this song wasn't all that hard in particular (in comparison to some of the songs we could of been given), the up down notes didn't pose a problem, and the eighth note trills didn't really either. Give me any 16th notes and I'll completely mess it up for you, cause right now I totally fail at this.
