FFR 4th Official Tournament! - Signups Closed!

Hi! Welcome to the fourth Official FFR R1 Tournament! This tournament is for players of any and all skill levels, from the barest beginners to the most seasoned veterans. As always, it's free to join, and there are cash and prizes for not only the winners, but potentially all the way down to 8th place!

Tournament Rules and Overview:

In this tournament, there will be five divisions: Beginner, Intermediate, Advanced, Expert, and Masters. When you sign up, I will place you in one of these divisions based on your accomplishments in FFR--you cannot just "sign up" for any specific division, so don't even bother saying which division you want to be in. There is NO LIMIT to the number of spots in this tournament--signups will last for the full week, no matter how many players we get.

Note: You must have at least 100 games played to enter this tournament.

Prizes for the winners are as follows:
1st in D5: 2 year subscription, $100 cash, and an FFR T-shirt

There may be additions to these prizes, but these are the minimum.


General rules:

When the first round of the tournament starts and with each new round after that, I will announce the main song and the tiebreaker song, if applicable. Your goal is to get and submit a higher score on the main song than your opponent.

-You can only play the specified main song for that round (assuming the tiebreaker is unnecessary). Rounds will generally be 1 week long (7 days) each unless otherwise noted.

-When you think you have a score you want to submit, take a screenshot of it and post it in the appropriate thread or send it via forum PM to Sprite-. If you don't know how to take a screenshot, follow these steps:
1. Press the Print Screen button on your keyboard.(For Mac users it is Command+Shift+3. For all who don't know, Command is the apple button.)
2. Go into Paint (Start>Programs>Accessories) or another imaging program and hit Ctrl-V, which should make the screenshot pop up on the screen.
3. Save the screenshot somewhere in your computer.
4. Go to an image hosting site, such as www.photobucket.com (http://www.photobucket.com) or www.imageshack.net (http://www.imageshack.net) and upload the screenshot from your computer.
5. Send me a link to the screenshot via forum PM or post it in the round's thread.

-You can submit any number of screenshots. We will only count your last one. Do not submit any scores that are lower than previously submitted scores, or you will be credited with the lower score.

-Your screenshots must be from some time after the round starts. This means that you cannot submit a screenshot of a score you got months ago, or even the day before that round starts. If you are caught submitting an old screenshot (and you WILL be caught if you try) you will be immediately disqualified.

- If there is a tie, all those with the tie score who are on the elimination number will have to play the tie breaker song. You will have an extra 24 hours past the end of the round to submit your score on the tie breaker.

-If you do not submit a score by the end of the round, you will be considered to have gotten a score of negative infinity on the song. If multiple players tie with negative infinity points, random.org will be used to determine who moves on.

-Don't bother trying to cheat, you'll be caught and immediately disqualified. Trying to secretly play in a lower division than you should be in by means of alternate accounts, or by any other means is CHEATING. Cheating will not be tolerated, and any evidence of cheating will result in disqualification. Also note that trying to piss me off by trying to bend the rules or trying to find loopholes will get you disqualified.

-We hold every right to ignore the entrance of certain individuals who we feel are more prone to the potential of cheating. If we say you can not participate, you can NOT participate. Our judgment on this is final and absolute.

-The time at which the round ends will be posted when the thread for that round is posted. After that time, the round is over and no more scores will be accepted.

After each round ends, I'll tally up the scores and post the results of who won, who lost, and the statistics of each score for each player at the start of the next round. If you lose once, you're eliminated.



Staff members may enter... but staff members may NOT win prizes (besides vROFL). If a staff member finishes in a prize spot, their prize will go to the person who finished directly below them.

Well, if D1 is starting at 8s and 9s and nobody in 1 and possibly 2 will have any TPs, I wouldn't be surprised to find very very few AAAs on round 1.

D5 will not have 50 AAAs in 1 round. I promise. D1 almost certainly will... although even the D1 1st round song is hard for a D1 1st round song. Normally they're 3 or 4 footers... this year, it's a 6. 3rd round is a 7, and 5th round is an 8. Last tournament, the easy division finals was an 8.

It's a reasonable conjecture for the most part - at least that's what I'm doing.

If you have more than 30 Tier Points, consider being placed in D3.

Anything less, and I think they would investigate a bit further to make a more reasonable placement, because it can be borderline high D2, or low D3 with ~30 TP's.

I'm probably an idiot for joining, since this is my first tournament... So just for clarification, you get pitted against someone else, you are given a song, then you have 1 week to beat your opponent's score by screenshotting the score and posting it?No, that's not correct. The division is one big list of names, and each round everyone submits scores, and are ranked in one giant list. The top X people on that list at the end of the round advance, the bottom Y people on the list are eliminated. There is no direct one-on-one competition.

Just wondering, since it wasn't mentioned on the original post. If you get a AAA on the main song, does it guarantee you a spot in the next round?For at least the first several rounds that will end up a guarenteed pass -anyway- but traditionally yes, a AAA gets you through the round, though Sprite- may well use a tiebreaker on AAAs in later rounds, you'd have to wait for an official statement on that.

So how do we know when a round starts? News post? PM? Forum post?Each round of the official tourney tends to get its own stickied thread, and the rounds are going to be posted the same day, same time, each week.

And for everyone trying to predict what division they will be in, many of you are underestimating how high you'll be. Last official tourney I had about 12 AAAs, 100 FCs, and no tier points, and was put into D2 (And there were only 4 divisions at that point) I made it to round 4 before I was soundly eliminated by not even being able to FC my song.

The only division where I'd be worried that might happen is D5, and D5 tends to have so few eliminations and such hard songs that tiebreakers don't come up often at all. If there's a tie at AAA in D2, and the tiebreaker song is an FGO, if both people AAA'd it in 24 hours, then something was terribly wrong and they should never have been in D2. The tiebreaker songs are designed to be too hard for all involved to actually break the tie.

I am hoping for division 3. I play index so songs like BB Euro and Uber Rave are much harder to me than songs like Hajnal and Flight of the Bumblebee, even though the song levels don't show it. So in the last tournament I was owned by {Frozen} in D3. But now with 5 divisions that helps allot.

vROFL is entirely just a throw in extra for things. Top 8 of official tourneys get it, but all the actual prizes are dramatically more valuable and useful than access to that song. It's just the funny thing to always be offering up, not a really significant portion of the prize pool.

YOu will be placed where it is determined you should be placed based on your stats, and the stats of the other people who sign up.

People should stop trying to suggest where they belong, or to insist that their stats don't reflect their skill, or ask us to tell them in advance where they will end up.

The people who will make up D5 can probably all self-identify, or alternatively you could just go look up who is in T0-2 and you'd probably have a pretty good list. Looking at T3-5 could probably get you a reasonable list of the D4 people. The vast swath of D1 people will likely have never or only rarely ever posted on the forum, have probably under 1,500 games played, and likely haven't taken part in any tourney or event before.

Chances are, if you even remember the last tourney, you're looking at D2+

Since you can only protest your division if you want to ask to be moved -upwards- and it's already been made explicit how the division choice is going to go, posting repeatedly about the division you'll be in, or that you think you should be in, is really just postwhoring at this stage.

Does anyone know the song difficulties each division would be played at? I'm a bit confused as seeing some previous posts talking about {Frozen} (VC) In the 3rd Division.

D5 will be FMO/FGO, and D1 is supposedly starting at difficulty 6, moving on to 7, and then 8+. D2 will probably be a beginning song of high 7 or low 8 and then moving on to 9's right away, D3 starting at high 8 low 9 and moving on to 10's right away, and D4 starting at a high 9 or even mid 10 before moving on to FMO's.

We can still PLAY other songs during the rounds, It's just the specified song that you submit and score with... right? Especially if we already AAA'd or something...

in terms of difficulty:
D1: 2 6s, 2 7s, 3 8s, 2 9s, 1 10
D2: 1 7, 4 8s, 3 9s, 2 10s
D3: 2 8s, 4 9s, 3 10s, 1 11
D4: 1 9, 4 10s, 4 11s, 1 12
D5: 1 10, 6 11s, 3 12s

if you compare that to last year, you'll notice that the songs are MUCH harder, across the board. we expect far fewer AAAs of the songs being given across all divisions, especially in the lower ones.
