i have an idea that would involve no talent whatsoever, but it's going to take me awhile to do, becuase i have things lined up that i need to do before that :S i'll try to get it done though

I love it, but it sucks for FFR because of some internal wiring issues.

Describe your idea and then work up a graphic for it later?

I believe that you should paint the regular letter keys black. The F1-12 keys along with the esc, Prt Scrn, Scroll Lock, and Pause Break keys should be the dark red/maroon. Dark green would be used on the number keys, ctrl,alt, space bar, tab, caps lock, and shift. The insert, delete, home, end, page up, and page down buttons would be white. The arrows and the secondary number pad would be orange. this covers all of the keys.

I believe that the base should be a chrome if at all possible as well.

maybe you would like something like this? all keys the dark/maroon red and the base color dark grey. you can change the color to your liking, this is just a little 10 min thing i came up with on PS. hope you like it =]

I'd give you the values of the colors, but I'm too lazy to figure them out. The general color is good enough, but ultimately it depends on the colors that the paints already come in.

lonewolf's design was my starting design and I find it to be simple and quite pleasing to the eye :D.

here's a gaming design with the keys highlighted that are most used by gamers... I think. I mean those are the main keys I use and I saw those keys highlighted on another gaming board I saw.

and here's my favorite. its a sort of gradient starting from a dark bottom, blending into a silver, then red, then lighter orange top.

lol, this was fun. there are so many designs you can come up with, simple or complicated :D

I was tempted to do sum sort of smiley pattern, but I thought it would be look kind of wierd or be distracting ;)

ohh, it shows up as dark silver to me... but i guess it is sort of purple lol... i guess my screen brightness is lower than yours... or I am color blind :o on noe

Vowels are maroon, consonants are orange, symbols are green, numbers are silver, function keys are black, escape is maroon, like buttons on either side (shift, ctrl etc.) should be the same color... And I just messed around with the other parts.
If you want more definition on the right side of the keyboard, I could change some colors around over there. Like... the enter being a different color or something.

How about that: black with a darker maroon through the center.
And I made the right enter key green and the right 0 silver.
Edit: Oh, and, it's not in the image, but I decided to make the NumLock key black.

You don't need to make a picture for it, you can just describe it and I might try to make it in Photoshop.

Hell, you could even scribble something out in Paint if you want to make a picture of it. It doesn't need to be well done, I'm just interested in the colors.



To answer your question, though, you can download the PSD I linked to in the first post, and then use it to color the layers. If you want to make groups of keys, just duplicate the layer that has all the keys on it for each different color you want, and on each layer erase the keys that you don't want to be that color.

Select the layer you want to color and press Ctrl+U to bring up the hue/saturation menu, then just mess with the options to get the desired result.

i think it would be alot less painfull to actually just paint the base of the keybaord also the keys wouldn't feel sticky all the time, the middle keys where you type you can leave black, unless your going to use some of that clear plastic coating stuff then dont worry about it, but yeah i figured that it was probally better to leave it fairly simple

The paint I'm using is made specifically to bond with plastic, and from my testing it dries smooth and completely non-sticky.

Silvuh, is the case a solid color? That's a very nice design, flames certainly? I think I'm very fond of the stylistic approach, but categorical painting has potential as well.

EnR, the paint is pretty standard stuff, should be able to find it at any Wal-Mart or hardware store. The brand name is Krylon and the product line is Fusion for Plastics.

coolguy, I'm really interested in seeing your picture, but the image tag is messed up. Try uploading it to somewhere like tinypic (http://www.tinypic.com) and then linking to it there.

Incase it didn't come out for whatever reason, my idea is a maroon border across the entire keyboard and keys, along with a border in each individual key [optional - this particular one does not have that].

I'm keeping it simple because too much paint in my opinion could be too distracting.
