View Full Version : The Revenge of Animarathon: FFR-Convention Part II

It's that time of year again! Thankfully this year, the board of ANO didn't wait until the week before the event to verify our Animarathon status, thus, you have almost three months to plan for this. No excuses!

Animarathon
Saturday, March 29
10 a.m.-midnight
Bowling Green, Ohio
Olscamp Hall on the BGSU campus

Use an online service to get driving directions, but member traveling from the north or south of Bowling Green, Oh (43402) can access the city straight from I-75 (Exit #181) and members traveling from the east or west have immediate access to I-75 from the turnpike.

It's just too soon right now to verify who exactly will be there and what we plan to display this year, but if you keep tuned, we will update with the specifics as they become available. For now, just know I have secured a room just like last year and with the extra planning time, we'll be rocking out even harder than last year.

For any of the newer people who may be thinking, "Ohio? WTF?", etc., etc., check out http://www.flashflashrevolution.com/vbz/showthread.php?t=63073 Even though it's for last year's event, it still pretty much explains the whole ordeal.

You can also check out the event's official Web page at http://www.bgsu.edu/studentlife/organizations/anime/animarathon/

Shoot, it might be 181. It's been a couple of years since I've lived out there so I'm foggy now. It probably is 181, though. I'll double check it and update.

Edit: Yeah, it is 181. I have it fixed in the original post now. Thanks for that.

Yeah, if you check my profile pictures, you can see a bunch of screen captures people took from the live feed we did last year. If all else fails, I'll use my camcorder to produce a video of the event. We would also plan on having merchandise at the event as long as we have some available.

Ok, So I was planning on trying to go to this this time, but there is no way that I'll be able to make it because I'll be getting back from Cabo San Lucas on the 29th and will have to make my way through customs and stuff. See if they can push it back a weekend.

If there is any way you could ever find Candied Apple Faygo, do it with all speed.

And, yes, I would fly Detroit Metro, Sprite. There is an airport in Toledo that puts you closer to the event, but the flight may not be nonstop and you'd have to figure out who is going to give you a ride.

Nah. I think the only time a hotel books out in Bowling Green is around President's Day or just before fall semester when potential students come to check out the campus.

And, Cosmic M, if you arrange it properly, you won't miss any school. You'll just have a lot of fun driving. :)

gnr61, if you split the bill with someone, the hotel price isn't that bad. You can ask Tass what hole he stayed in last year. I'm pretty sure that was the cheapest place in town.

If Sprite and Manti came together.. you could come friday and stay at my house (30 minutes away from the convention) to avoid hotel fees, and you could stay either at my house that night if we drive back, or we could all split and get some rooms at a hotel.

If chaz can really pick up people, he should pick up Jellygod on the way to my house. He lives off of I-94, which is the expressway you'll be taking to get to my side of the mitten.

I might come this year but I have school the two weeks in between the event. I could skip Friday and Monday of school so I can drive there and back on those two days.... maybe....

After my Minneapolis trip I learned that I could go somewhere far away on an extremely low budget, so I could maybe get a couple hundred dollars for this trip if I can find someone to let me stay in a hotel room with them for free rofl

I think I may be able to help out but that depends on whether or not im going with a friend or by myself.
Really what we should do is all pitch in and get a decent sized room so we pay like nothing :).

Im totally cool with sleeping with strangers... wink wink.

ALSO you could totally crash on the couches in the student center place where the arcade is. I was in there til 4 AM without anyone saying anything. We could get tents and have an FFR tourny on there macs.

Wait... ew... FFR on a Mac

Actually, I wouldn't advise sleeping on the couches at the student union. Sitting around is one thing, but the campus security is pretty prick about people sleeping on them. Just get a hotel room and cram it with people - it won't cost you much at all. Bring sleeping bags or pillows or something and make it a slumber party. If you split the cost, it really isn't that bad.

We need to get something closer to NY =[. We should organize independent meetups in various parts of the U.S. based on # of members within a certain radius. From Quebec (Quebec), so it's quite a while away. I did go to Otakon 2007, which cost me roughly 500$ (16$ ''Allô Stop'' to go to montreal, 112.50$ round trip with greyhound from Montreal, 100$ for 3 nights in a hotel room with 5 other people I had met on the net, 50$ registration costs, 130$ of personal spending cash, 30$ of taxi drive from bus station to hotel and back after, 40$ ish from Montreal to Quebec since Allô Stop was closed when I got back).

Though you do need a passport to get into the states, which means the following:

birth certificate
''carte d'assurance maladie''
can't remember if you need ''Carte d'assurance sociale''
around 80$ for the passport
asking it about one month in advance before the trip or else you might not get it on time....

WARNING: Greyhound isn't a fun ride.....and it was 13 hours ride, being at Baltimore, MD. Ohio seems at a similar distance, though might take a little more time. I haven't been a member of FFR for very long and this event doesn't seem as fun/crazy as Otakon, so I'll probably not go this year, but who knows for 2009 ;)

I hope you all have fun so that next year it becomes THE even to go at.

I only said that because I was stuck at the Student Union and no one ever said anything about me being there til 4:00 AM.

I actually planned everything out with a friend including which hotels we are staying at and how much it will be for gas.

Drugstore: How far are you away from Ann Arbor again? Kwik I thought the same thing tonight.

I talked to my friend about the convention and asked if he would wanna go. I mentioned Ann Arbor and told him I would want to head out down there Friday.

Actually I figured thats what day we would meet up if we DID do a meet up in Ann Arbor...
Its only logical.

People have to leave Sunday so Friday would be the best time.

ANYWAY
Me and my friend literally planned everything already...

Friday:
We are heading out to Ann Arbor around 11:00 PM and getting a hotel... On 94 there is a hotel for 83 dollars a night called Best Western Executive Plaza. We are staying there Friday.

Saturday:
Going to the convention Saturday morning and getting a hotel at Sleep Inn or whatever its called. Not sure if you guys want to do something AFTER the convention but if you all do, thats cool.

Sunday:
This all depends if you guys are going to do anything.

let's all play "IF IT TOUCHES YOU, PUT IT IN YOUR MOUTH!"

I would advise getting into the area on Friday as soon as you can. If you aren't getting to Ann Arbor until 11 p.m., the latest I will be staying there is between midnight - 1 a.m, so, yeah, that doesn't leave us much time to do things on Friday. I was hoping to leave from here so I can be in Ann Arbor at roughly 7 p.m. Everyone can just meet at Pinball Pete's and I'll have my cell phone on me for the people that are showing up. That's how I enivision it at least.

Like I said, if enough staff shows up, I'm sure we're going to want to have some sort of meeting, and that would most likely happen on Sunday. So, Saturday and Sunday will probably operate on the fly as we actually know what is going on.

You do not have to pay to get into Animarathon. The costs at the event are if you choose to buy raffle tickets for the prize drawing (how the club earns money to do things) or if you choose to buy something from a vendor. This also means you do not have to pre-register (but when you arrive, the organization does ask you sign in so they can keep tabs on the event attendence). The free admission is the great thing about attending the event and representing FFR.

With T-shirts, obviously, we do not charge shipping and handling while at an event. I won't give specific prices on shirts right now, though, because I don't want to speak for Synth and Jasonkey. Ultimately, they will decide how much to charge, but last year, yes, they were sold at a slightly lower price than from the online store.

With the volume of members planning to head out to the event, you might be able to share a hotel room if you are comfortable enough to do so at a low cost.

But, to sum it up, ultimately the cost of your trip is whatever you need for gas and food, and then tack on lodging if you plan on making it a weekend. In no way are you required to spend money at the event itself.

Do you know if the new shirt design will be printed out and will be on sale during the convention?

Since there's nothing on the top half of the shirt, it'd be a great shirt for having people signing it. (I'm talking about the light blue shirt with the arrow chart thing at the bottom, because we all know its going to win the contest) I'll be having the cool people sign a shirt if I can buy that one

nestlekwik
January 13th, 2008, 10:07 AM
I believe I heard the goal was to have something new done for the convention. It may be the new contest T-shirt design, but I can't say for sure. If new shirts are at the convention, since they would be fresh off the press, it is a possibility the shirts may not be discounted, though (minus shipping obviously). I really have nothing to do with the merchandise, so I don't want to start saying things that aren't true.

For those who don't have credit cards, etc., we do also allow you to purchase subscriptions at the event, but I can't remember if the minimum length was 3 months or 6 months. I think it was 3 months, though, and it believe it worked similar to buying a gift sub.

Are you guys even going to be able to sleep? lol I hope you do because 10 a.m.-whenever we close up shop is a long haul, especially if people join us for a night out in Ann Arbor on Friday.

**** sorry. I meant 11:00 AM ROFL.

We are leaving early in the morning and will get there around either 11:00 am OR 12:00 pm.

Yes sir commander of TBG Army.

Also, we will see who Shasha wants to sleep next to. Oh yes we will.

@ chaz, we're going to have to see how Ricky's parents feel about a bunch of kids getting drunk and passing out at their house.

Yeah, usually I'll provide for my friends that are underage but really I'm not all for providing for a bunch of kids from FFR when I'm supposed to be setting a good example.

I might not set a good example on FFR but IRL I like to keep it at a good example.

Bar run if there's time and we don't have to get up early, amirite?

On Friday, I'd be getting up at like 6 or 7 AM and leaving around then, picking you guys up around 11 AM or noon or something, then we'd try to get into town at around 7 or 8 PM.

If we're doing **** at Ann Arbor that night, we'd be about an hour or 90 minutes from the convention. So we could wake up at 9 or 10 AM on Saturday

Sunday... not sure if we're going to stay in town or leave that day. It all depends on if I can find a way to stay out of the house without parents knowing anything (which is going to be HARD when I have school Friday and Monday). So if we leave Sunday, it'd have to be really ****ing early. Like 5 or 6 AM because its about a 12 hour drive from Ricky's house to mine, nonstop.

Hopefully some of you guys who's going with me can drive, because I'm not counting on driving the whole way
