A couple questions for the artists here

In both those pictures, is there a term for these spots?:

Same with the spots or sparks around Venom in the second one.

Is that simply just texture? And would too much of it wreck a piece? I'd like to learn more about it.

Watermarks, I do believe.

Perhaps noise? Texture would be my second guess.

And not necessarily. If you add lots of it, make sure that it is rather uniform and it's in the entire picture. If you add a little, just use it to blur or make a glow. Otherwise, I can't add much more advice to it.
