View Full Version : New Skill Token Organization Ideas

Seeing what other skill tokens users have is a pretty good idea, but I believe we can improve it:

1) Instead of showing all of the skill tokens someone has, it should show all of the skill tokens that they don't have. If a user doesn't have a skill token, on their profile it would show a blank shaded circle with picture of a lock (or anything really) in the middle to show that this user does not have this skill token yet. When you move your cursor over it, it could say "<Song Name> not unlocked". When you unlock the skill token, it will just proceed to how things are now with the other image.

Compliments to Damanwithdaskillz for an awesome picture of what it could look like:

2) The skill token list page should be organized by difficulty. It would help the new players who have absolutely no idea what to do find out which ones to start on.

Just my suggestions, feedback is welcomed ;)

What does 1) do except to make the people who have very few skill tokens feel even less accomplished? I know if I first started, and saw "Skill tokens" and this gigantic pile of locks showing how -not- skilled I am, it would be pretty damn disheartening. Heck, I've got 42ish skill tokens, and the sudden appearance of the 40something I haven't got would just make me want to not have them displayed at all.

2) seems at least a little more reasonable, but they were a) released in order, in vaguely connected sets insofar as the token graphic so splitting them up would make it look messy and random and b) in many cases it is tough to gauge the actually "difficulty" of the token. You could rank the ones that are just "Do exceptionally well" against each other based on the difficulty of the song, you could potentially rank the ones that are just "Do exceptionally poorly on purpose" against each other based on the difficulty of the song, but ranking all of them in order would be pretty tough and based on the personal opinion of the one diong the ranking.

I totally agree with everything said, that would seriously be awsome! Especially the difficulty thing, that would help, and the lock thing is awsome

#1 seems not so good... mostly for devonin's reasoning. If anything, we'll add in the option to scroll 4-5 rows.

#2.... I did do a basic breakdown of ST difficulties.... but, as mentioned, the list is listed in order of release... and the images mostly go together... If anything, we could ADD a column to display the difficulty of each token.

Least I tried :)

You have to look at the above image, do you know hard it was to draw that lock in paint?

Yeas that would be good.

Heh ^_^

Just for the record, on the above image... The ones I chose were locked were at random.

Devonin pretty much listed my opinion on this. The first idea is can be a self-esteem killer, despite the fact that I'm missing in reality 2 skill tokens plus the easy ones that I don't go for, I wouldn't like seeing those locks. The second idea is decent though.

Mixed ideas.

To me, I would have no problem showing which skill tokens I am missing they aren't there in the first place and if you don't have many of them, anyone could notice right off the back.

Secondly, the first one is at all possible only showing to you when you are on your profile. For an example, it could look like what it looks like now when you visit someone else's profile, but my poorly drawn leet image could look like yours when you visit your profile.

Moving this into the profile area so we can look at potential options.

This has come up before, just wondering if we should show only you whats locked and show others that visit your profile what you have already ..

I think that people might have an issue with their lack of skill being even more publically displayed, though it would provide a motivation for the "Experts" to play the couple they normally just wouldn't be bothered to get.

I didn't realize they came out with this forum, I should look through the list more carefully next time ^_^

Maybe just an option to turn it on or off in profiles would fix this?

Exactly, the point is motivation, when I'm playing a video game, and some characters (like in SSBM) not only are they locked, but so are the arenas, so that's cool

I like Ideas 1 and 2. Both sound really good to me. But as said, it could motivate, or destroy someone's self-esteem. But that would all be based on the person in question. I for one, would be motivated. 40 ST's isn't bad.
