Toronto Meetup

Alright, so right now we have determined a large number of people would be willing to go to a Toronto meetup. As such, this is the thread for all discussion concerning said potential meetup in said city.

We have now determined that the location of the meetup is going to be Playdium (http://www.playdium.com), and the official date for the meetup shall be Saturday, September 15th, at 1pm (EST, obviously). We will meet in front of the entrance - look for a group of people huddled around an FFR sign of some sort and/or wearing nametags with weird names like "Tokzic" on them. If you are late and do not see us at the entrance, head inside and find us near the DDR or ITG machines. Note that despite the way the arcade looks, you are allowed to enter without buying credits first. If you do not know what Playdium is, click the link, or read this cute little summary I wrote from the first stage:

It's in Mississauga. It is a very large arcade with many many rhythm games (Supernova, Extreme, Guitar Freaks, some drum game, Beatmania are here) and other multiplayer-oriented games. There is a mall across the street which is a good place to eat at. It is relatively cheap - $30-40 would probably pay for gaming all day and eating. However, besides gaming, there is little else to do in the area (this probably won't be an issue with Playdium's size). Also, we are taking a risk on the DDR machines, because at some times they are camped by groups of people, and other times they are not. If we are unlucky and they are, play time may be scarce, or we may have to have a DDR machine fight. Yeah, an all-out team fight for the DDR machines. No frontin'. Bring your brass knuckles.

Now we are in the Oh Looks Like Pretty Much Everything Is Organized That Went Pretty Quickly But Let's Tie Up Loose Ends stage, but despite the name, this isn't just some stage where everybody is lazy and sits around doing next to nothing; not at all. In this stage, we need you guys to do this:

-If you haven't given us information yet (e.g. if you're not on the list but want to come, if you haven't told us if you can make it on the 15th), please do so.

-Inform other Canadian FFRers of this thread's existance - FFRChat and MP people often don't check the forums, and even forum people may have missed this thread's existance. Fix this by telling them about it.

-Keep us up to date if you change your mind about your availability.

-If you need a ride, say so in the thread and be sure to tell us where you would need to be picked up from.

-Most important of all, keep checking the thread - even more details and notes will be added as we approach the date (time of meetup, exact location of meetup, etc.), so even if there are no new posts, check the original post regularly for updates.

Oh, also, if my bias didn't tell you, I think the best idea is Playdium myself, mostly because the money issue will probably make too many people back out and make a Wonderland meetup not work out.

Wonderland is better for bigger groups of people, but Playdium is better financially by the sounds of it. I would still say Wonderland, simply because I'm not as much of an arcade person.

Yeah, I would also say Wonderland. I mean, just because our site is based on a game, doesn't mean we have to go to an arcade....right?

And, although the food is extremely overpriced at Wonderland, you could always just bring a cooler or something with sandwiches and stuff to keep/eat in your car (since you can't bring food into the park). Plus, there is a bunch of restaurants (fast food and sit down)within walking distance of the park.

Put me down as a wishy-washy. I live rather far from Toronto, and so whether I'd be able to make it is entirely at the mercy of when it is.

Also, much more support for Playdium than anything else. Wonderland is actually 50 dollars for regular admission unless you're under 4 feet tall or over 60 years old. And depending on when you go, the park is so packed that groups of 3/4 often have waits of up into 1-2 hours for some rides.

More other also though: If this is taking place over multiple days, Canada's Wonderland is in Vaughn, and located pretty close to both a large number of hotels, and a very large shopping mall/retail centre.

On the other hand, if you go on a day that DOES rain, the waits are ridiculously long and a lot of the fun rides are closed completely, so it's largely a matter of luck.

Again, though, Playdium is probably a much better idea for the scale of meetup we're doing - guaranteed we'll get less than half the people listed.

That's what we always do. Most rides only have a 15 minute or so wait, except for bigger ones like The Bat or Top Gun. The longest I waited was 45 minutes for The Bat (given it was in the afternoon when the weather got nice), and 40 minutes for Scooby Doo's Haunted Mansion (shut up >_>).

I vote playdium for sure. I can go there IF it is not on a Tuesday or Thursday. I would go on Saturday But I might leave for a bit (sport commitments and that) but I'll probably be back.

The people that camp there are usually only at the ITG2 machine, and are there at night. The DDR machines are, most likely, a No Problem.

EDIT: Playdium does have 1 ITG2, 1 Extreme, and 2 Supernova's (1 set to HARD [have to press harder on the pad the usaul] and the other is EASY [ITG easy to step on the pads])

Here's a "maybe", because you haven't said when it is. If you say when it is, I can cement that partially to a "probably", and then when I check out the busses, I can cement it to a "definitely".

I have school and work and well I'm a busy person, so basically it all depends when it is.

Also I'll be getting there by bus, so like, yeah....

Wonderland is out of the question. Playdium sounds fine though I have no idea what the hell it is other than an arcade.

Okay, it looks like Playdium is trouncing Wonderland soundly, so I'm going to go ahead and keep moving, putting us at the Okay Well When Should We Do It Then stage. I find this stage is overly long and complicated unless someone pulls a random date out of the hat which gives everyone lots of notice and see how it rolls through, like, oh, I don't know...

Saturday, September 8 and Saturday, September 15.

We'll see what everyone is doing on these two days, then plan the meetup for the date which more people can attend. So now, please post saying whether or not you can make the 8th and the 15th. If something pops up and you absolutely cannot make a date, please keep us up to date in this thread.

As of now, I can make both of those.

Playdium is not really in Toronto technically, also I go there like every Saturday to play ITG so I might be able to see you guys there, ill probably wear my FFR shirt so you can figure out who I am xD. Also the only game there worth playing there is the ITG machine because the DDR extreme is really crappy almost all arrows dont register on any side. Also the DDR SN are also in pretty bad condition but playable enough just dont expect to combo a lot of stuff too often and the only difference between the two SN's is that one has a lower life difficulty than the other I believe

As for where to meet, there's a nice roomy area around the entrance, and we can all meet there. Wear nametags or something so we can pick people out from others - I might make a sign or something so everyone knows exactly where to meet up.

Uh, you realize that short of the convention hijack, there has never been an "official" meetup? There have been numerous successful "unofficial" meetups; we don't need admin blessing to have a good time.

Yeah, I mentioned considering bringing a sign to gather everyone outside of the entrance. The more signs, the merrier.

First post updated with time and location - 1pm, and just outside of Playdium's entrance. If you are late (please avoid this), we'll be inside by DDR or ITG.

I noticed that $25 gets me 160 credits. Is it true that a game costs 7 credits?

All games cost different amounts of credits according to their length/popularity/etc. I don't remember how much DDR costs, but I'm pretty sure it's under ten and over five.

Seven credits sounds like the average for games though, yeah.

I read on the website that you can also buy time play, where you get a certain amount of time with unlimited games. Unfortunatly, ITG/DDR doesn't count towards that. But, I don't think we'll be playing DDR the whole time anyways, so you could always buy the time play and then some extra credits just for DDR.

also a couple of weeks back some regulars of playdium figured a way to get the ITG to free play but some moron figured it out and totally messed with the machine like wiping all the scores off it

also... its generally very noisy there with 4 machines on at the same time so if you play any of the machines dont expect to hear the sound too much

I would love to go, but I am going to Pennsylvania for the weekend of the 15th. If someone could pick me up or come up with a way for me to get to Canada for about $20-$40 at the most, not including the expenses of playing/eating it would be greatly appreciated. I live in the Buffalo region, so getting to Canada wouldn't be too much of a hassle. Now getting the ok of the parental units would be more of a problem.

I'm down for Playdium/SQ1 sure (sup nb22), so long as FrOsTy or WTFBrandon are going. But that's not a problem, they're like 100% for it, so I'll most likely be there. <3

Also, as a sidenote, on Saturdays, the ITG2 machine is whored by little kids (Christian/CLM, Mohammed/MOE!, AJ/AJXC, AJ/AJN) and their annoying buddies, so don't be surprised if they're there. Having hung out with them, they're alright, but their friends are REALLY, REALLY annoying.

I've been to Playdium countless times. The crowd's not nearly as bad as you think - most kids piss their credits on the ticket games then go home within an hour.

Anyway, we're having a lot of last minute dropouts, so I'm going to PM the remaining people who have said they can/will probably/might go and get a solid yes/no from everyone. Depending on how many people are still game, we may reschedule, or do it anyway with just a few and have another attempt for a big one at a later date.

My dad's company car, which was from a job he got fired from a few days ago, got towed today before I woke up and won't even have a chance of returning until next week. My mother's car, the only other car I have around to drive, she's "out" with.

Well this turned out to be a bit of a fail. I got there at 1 and saw nobody was there so I went to the ITG. I saw a guy who I forget his name but I'm guessing he's 'ddr_f4n' and and now that I read Xiao's post I saw him there for about an hour. Mea_Culpa got there and was just kinda hanging out around the ITG and then we saw a guy with a DDR shirt. We didn't approach him for some reason until after Mea left where I talked to him and it turned out to be Spinal_Compression with FreakSnots. They failed a bit at the DDR then left...anyway I had fun at the ITG except my stupid USB didn't work.

We need to do this again in a few months...I would say of Christmas Holidays?

called some friends, rented a hotel on the strip

and well, got wasted at Treehouse,
then went to voodoo - 6 dollar mini-pitchers!
i was completely plastered, and went to some cheetah stripclub.
paid 20 bucks for a lapdance from the hottest stripper there.. had boobs and vagina in my face.
Then went stumbled down the street to domino's. got a pizza.
went back to the hotel room with the friends
and passed the **** out.


So my canada voyage wasnt a complete failure, but sorry i couldnt find it.
