View Full Version : How good am I?
06-27-2007, 02:06 AM
The only times I ever see people besides me playing this game is when I look it up on youtube, and I only ever see people AAAing and Full Comboing and all that stuff I *wish* I could do...I've never really had anyone within reasonable range to my skill level to measure against, so I'm not really sure if I would be considered "Good" at this game or not...
Best Score: 444005
Best Rank: 6782
Best Score: 525680
Best Rank: 2071
Uber Rave (Failed)
Best Score: 488490
Best Rank: 18829
I cleared Uber Rave once, but something weird happened and it said I was logged in as " " and when I refreshed the page it wouldn't load so...yeah. Score didn't get saved. I got 7 credits though, apparently.
So, what would you all say? Good scores? Bad scores? Moderate?

We can tell how good you are more from your numbers of perfects, goods, combo, etc., than that stuff, but it looks like you could use some more practice. Clearing a song doesn't earn you much skill around here, unless it's of difficulty 13.

You obviously havent been playing for too long, but that doesnt mean you should get discouraged, you'll get better eventually, you just have to give it time and practice

Went back and played Uber Rave again, broke my previous record...I'll post a more detailed analysis.
Max Combo: 171
Score % of Record Holder: 34
Credits Earned: 10
I accidentally held down an arrow key and it tacked on like, 50 boos in about half a second and almost killed me, so I don't imagine that helped my score.

MY aim is soulofcerberus if you have aim.
Otherwise I'll PM you some helpful tips and hints
<edit> Basic help for you now. Looking at the songs that you've been playing, and your total number of games played, I'd suggest that you start playing easier files, like the first 2 or 3 pages of dance. It'll help you get used to the patterns of the game and will help you get better faster. Playing super hard files like the ones you are now will just cause you to mash and won't help you get better at the game.
Also use spread. But just remember, stick to easier songs, I don't even play those songs a lot if at all, and I'm much better than you ^_^.
Practice makes perfect. Don't get discouraged.

Oh, if that was with no mashing, that that's significantly more impressive than I was expecting. Still, it takes a TON of practice to get really good at this game. Btw, boos barely effect your score, it's scores like this:
Max combo: 1000

You have a lot to work on. Don't worry about your PA right now and work on that boo count.
Once you can clear without boos then go for misses the PA. Mashing won't get you anywhere.

I don't mash, I can read the arrows perfectly fine ^.^;; It's just my fingers have a hard time keeping up with my brain @_@ I tend to read the arrows in clumps (i.e. I wouldn't read Right Up Left Down as 4 individual arrows, if they're close enough together I just slide across the arrow pad and they're all down, instead of pressing them individually) so if I get into a stream with unfamiliar patterns it can throw me off-kilter. But stuff like 121, 12321, etc. I just read as if it were all one arrow.
I'm not really new to arrows in general, I've been playing Stepmania for a while, and the little bar at the top of the page says I've been a member of FFR for 0.74 years. Thus far the hardest song I've cleared is Illumination of the Sky (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dvB4S6Xs35I) (The song starts off easy, but after about 250 arrows it switches over to 400 BPM or whatever it is, I got a C on it with Timing (1/1 difficulty))
I always mess up with the pattern where it alternates between one arrow and one of the other three (1213141312 etc.(Stratofortress messes me up with that ><)), and pretty much anything that goes from left to right...I don't do well with jumps either, I prefer songs with "pure" streams (just single arrows). I do exceedingly well on patterns where the arrows are all only one left or right of the last (stuff like 123432343212321) But when it's confined to 3 arrows (23432~) for some reason I can't do it ><
I haven't gotten any of the skill songs yet =/ MP level is 9, bar's about 60% full at the moment. Oh, and I play one-handed.
EDIT: I like to play more difficult songs because I prefer there to be a danger of failure. So most things I play I don't get higher than a C.
EDIT2: I use numbers for the patterns cause they're easier for me, just 1-4 for left-right etc. shouldn't be too hard to decode

Don't play anything on 1/1. Play on at least 4/4, passing a song on 1/1 doesn't even count as passing it. On 1/1, I could probably pass Vertex BETA Vrofl by mashing the whole thing, if I had it. Try to pass The Legend of Zelda Remix, it's one of the easier tokens.

On 4/4 I think the best thing I can do is Air (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3nN9St4ldrI) (Just 4/4d it right now, Max combo 144, 356 Fantastic, 278 Excellent, 262 Great, 61 Good, 10 Barely, 52 Miss, 25 OK. The stream at the end was fun, I held a combo through a lot of it, got up to 56 before I lost it.)
EDIT: Just got one of the skill tokens, Idol. I didn't like the song I had to play to unlock it so I muted the sound. So far that's the only one it looks like I can do at this point. I wanted to try for First Try but I couldn't find Yoshi Bonus Round in the game...

If you pass the legend of zelda remix in the arcade section, the yoshi bonus round is immediately after it.

I could probably pass Vertex BETA Vrofl by mashing the whole thing, if I had it.
Don't lie to the new people. ^.^
