Hypnosis, as anyone who is not ignorant knows, is real. When someone is in the state of hypnosis, the hypnotizer actually can control what he/she will feel. If he/she says there is a fly buzzing around you, then the person will actually hear a fly buzzing around him/her (If you don't believe this then you can check any research ever done on this or any medical site thats trustworthy and you'll see it is true). Anyway, why aren't there any psychiatrist thieves? I mean, they can hypnotize someone pretending like they want to help them and then just ask for their credit card number. No one will ever notice and they'll be rich. It's like hacking, seriously.

I don't know a lot about hypnotism, but doesn't it take time, although small, and doesn't the person atleast have to be a little willing?

Not exactly willing, but the more the person likes to daydream, the more effective it is.

First off, lots of people who are very smart probably don't believe in hypnotism, and who can blame them? You have to admit it sounds a tad far fetched. Besides that, there are plenty of sites that say hypnotism is fake, and plenty of people who don't believe in it. If it was widely accepted with no serious opposition (such as, the common cold is transmitted by sneezing on someone), then it wouldn't be an issue.

Listen, I believe in hypnotism, I'm just arguing for the sake of arguing. But discussions arn't any fun if you shoot down any chance of a rebuttal.

Well, I have a friend who is going through a psychiatry rotation in medical school, and he's really smart. When he's done with it, I'll see if he can tell me more about hypnosis (but that's about 1-2 months from now)

And also, hypnosis is not just another possibility such as the possibility of evolution or something like that. Hypnosis has been done on patients. Anyone who doesn't believe in it isn't exactly entitled to have his own opinion, because it is used. Look, I'm sure there's got to be some kind of Medical journal that has a website and has an article having to do with hypnosis. If one of us is bored enough to find out, he/she can check for an article and see what they say. (btw, you pretty much can't argue with a medical journal. Only things that have been proved go in there)

Hypnotism has a small place in the art of magic, so I know a thing or two about it.
First thing, hypnotism is real.
Second thing, it doesn't work on everyone. There is usually a volunteer elimination process before the show actually starts. The performer tries to put each volunteer into a hypnotic state. Then he/she tells the volunteers who it didn't work on to sit down.

Harsh but true.

No I'm talking about medical hypnosis, like psychiatrists who practice it. I actually have no clue about the ones who do it for fame. 8)

Performers perform to entertain, and for the love of the art they're performing.

But there are some assholes who only perform for fame and money.
