In an effort to allow people who really wish to participate in critical thinking topics without the spam, I have created a new forum: The Critical Thinking Forum.

Any threads concerning politics, religion, science etc. belong in this forum.

i have a question to athiests (however u spell it) on religion. if u dont believe in god or anything do u use the caledar or anything. since the year 2004 was 2004 years after jesus was born

VxDx
February 6th, 2004, 06:52 PM
That's not an arguement against aetheism (or agnosticism in my case), since the calender is accepted by everyone, created by PEOPLE and not your god, and has even gone through many changes and existed before jesus was supposedly born. You must be the worst religious supporter ever.

Okay, it is said that god is in everyone how about the bad people? they arent everyone which means they are nobody which= the devil is in them, yes that's true indeed

What? You logic makes no sense. According to your reasoning: Bad people arent everyone...therefore they are no one. Well, hate to burst your bubble there, but you arent everyone either. Therefore you are nobody, and thus the devil is in you.

And the definition of everyone is "every person". Therefore, bad people are everyone, and thus "God" is in them. Plus, who says God isnt bad? Afterall, he did cast Adam and Eve out of the Garden of Eden for eatting an apple to live the rest of their lives in pain. Kind of harsh isnt it? I mean, I thought God was all forgiving. Oh, not to mention the destruction of all life on earth save Noah, his family, and two of every animal. What about those animals who were good? Dont they deserve to live a full life?

Wow, God seems like it is a real asshole.

Some people in this cruel world want to abuse you, some people want to be abused, some want to use you and some want to be used.... do you see a pattern going on there?

If anyone agrees with me just tell me and tell me if u are a person who likes to be abused or one who uses and abuses etc....

No, he wont. That goes against the Sixth Commandment "Thou shall not kill."

It is God's duty to take care of those who are bad, not yours.

Well, according to gods word he will grant forgiveness to any who ask. So in theory even the most horrible person in the world ... say maybe Oprah or perhaps Dr. Ruth (scary mental images that one) .. is immediately granted forgiveness, ie. salvation upon their honest request for it.

I wonder if I will be condemned for not having capitalized god yet doing so for Oprah and Dr. Ruth ... twice.

IronMonk
March 19th, 2004, 04:32 AM
hahaha, firstly we are taking a very biast view on god and whether it is a forgiving one, in some religions the gods themselves were more human then divine, but they have power to do what humans cant.

first off qreepy im really offended by your statement that i wouldnt come to this forum... and yes i am a jew. anyways my view is that only jewpin should be allowed to mod this since he created it and hes mature enough to handle it. second of all. I have a hard time coming to terms with christianity. you can find way too many loopholes and dead ends in it. IE if you are gay , you to hell... BUT if you accept jesus as your savior, you go to heaven. WHAT THE HELL HAPPENS IF YOU ARE A HOMOSEXUAL CHRISTIAN WHO PROCLAIMS JESUS AS YOUR SAVIOR?!?!? WHAT NOW GOD? WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO? thats kinda my point there. My friend tried to explain it to me but he didnt get very far. i've found more blocks and such with the whole acceptance into heaven BS from christains and such. my dad simply explained it to me the best way possible. the bible is not meant to be taken literally, it is meant to be interperated (sp?) so he says that most of the stuff that the bible says isnt really "written in stone" thats how my dad told me you get past the blocks and such. SOO.. its really hard to believe in things when they have problems.. i thought all was sopost to be so perfect yet there are problems like that, that occur :/... oh well this is getting hella long ill cut it off here and see your reactions

arguing over religion is the most ridiculous thing to do...everyone is too biased to take in anyone elses views and no one will admit they are wrong so the arguement doesnt ever lead anywhere...

IronMonk

good point. but are we in any better place without trying? by the very nature of the topic there is very little chance that any group of people will come to any conclusion at all. a thing about the bible's (old and new) you absolutly cannot take them word for word, firstly they have been translated a half a dozen times each, so any exact meaning is often so blurred that it is absurd to take the exact lines to heart. but i find that taking the whole thing into perspective is an important part of understanding anything in western sociaty. if you havent read the bibles then i sugest you do. but keep everything in context, the book was written a very long time ago so any explanations about the mannor of god and creation would likely be misunderstood at best. in order to understand religion you have to look at all of them, by looking at religions you will find many many striking paralells between them all. the differances in religion are to me only differant interpratations of why humanity is here. and what is painfully obvious nowadays is that people look for the easy explanation to things. i challange each and every one of you who believe in any god to step back and try and understand for yourself how things happen, i am not saying to shed yourself of religion. i myself am religous. but i realized one day that what i believe in is only what i have been told to believe in. science is the definition of the world around. use it to understand why.

makaveli121212
March 20th, 2004, 12:43 PM
the thing many people dont realize about the bible is that it is only a collection of books...people say, 'well, the bible contradicts itself'...well sure it does because the people that wrote the bible arent the same people and the books of the bible were written at very different times...they all talk about god, but its like making a collection of books about government together...some things will contradict themselves...and again the bible isnt always meant to be taken literally...for instance the story of noah is just a story...there was no worldwide flood, but there was a big one that noah was a part of...

Jello
March 20th, 2004, 05:29 PM
noahs arch is 100% fiction.. its just a bible story. he probably gathered 2 over a bunch of animals thinking that they were all the animals in the world. he was probably too stupid to see the whole world wasnt flooded, jus that area... and maka... moses wrote most of the old testiment over 50% i think. he wrote genisis leviathan and a bunch of other parts if i am correct. but again it is sopost to be interperated ;/.

try this experiment and play god. next time you see a bunch of little kids, try and teach them quantum theory. thats probly the closest thing that a "true" bible would be. and thus no one would read it.

quantom theory is the phisics that explains the tiney little bits that make protons and electrons work.

take the hardest thing you have ever tried to understand, then multiply it by a factor of PI, thats the sort of thing i am getting at.

people on average think of god as being some magical being. personnaly i think that eventually science will be able to explain a great deal about what happned, but you see. had god talked to people, god wouldnt have been able to explain how he had made the world to them. it woudl be too difficult. thus he made a faery tale.

ps, if that is you in your avatar, and i do realise that almost ever geek has probly done as i am, you are an exceptionally beautifull person.
