I left the sticky incomplete for a long time. It's time we got to choosing this.
http://www.flashflashrevolution.com/index.php?name=PNphpBB2&file=viewtopic&t=24869 was the thread for Anime Series. This is the one for Anime Movie.
I haven't seen that many movies to be honest. I'll pretty much stay out of this.
And no, Advent Children doesn't count. I won't count votes toward this movie.

I nominate:
End of Evangelion
Castle of Cagliostro
Perfect Blue
NINJA SCROLL (!!!)
Dragon Half
Puni Puni Poemi
And can we count Go Nagai's failed series as movies? Two or four episodes should work. Plus, one even concludes.
If so, I also nominate Devil Man and Kekko Kamen.

What are you talking about? Puni Puni Poemi(y) wasn't a movie. It was a one dvd series with 3 episodes I think. Anyway, hands down my vote for Official Anime Movie is End of Evangelion. I personally had a chance to view it over the summer and I was definitely blown away.

Dragon Half
Puni Puni Poemi
OAVs. Not movies. Both were 2 episodes long.
As a note for future reference, ROD was not a movie either. It was a 3-episode OAV.

Hold on. When the hell was Pita-Ten ever voted to become the offical manga? I think you should revoke that and make an entirely new thread for that because IMO I strongly believe there are better manga than Pita-Ten.

It seems we have different definitions of anime movies then.... (Although, I totally understand where you're coming from)
And Casey, I did list Castle of Cagliostro. It wasn't his creation, but it was his work, as far as I'm concerned. He made Lupin into what Lupin should be. Plus, Spirited away, Castle in the Sky, and Howl's Moving Castle are AMAZING, but I just wanted to keep with the ones I listed.

Kilga slid it in. I didn't remove it because my edit of his edit doesn't make sense without it.
Rest assured, we will take a poll for manga too. Kilga can't have his way without a poll.
Unless he edits it everytime I fix it.

Even though the Evangelion series (including the movies) literally chanced my life, I don't think it should be nominated since the movie is actually just a re-release of the last two episodes of the series and is not a stand-alone movie.
My vote goes for Millenium Actress. The most beautiful anime-movie I have seen. However, if no one else votes for it, I will change my vote to Spirited Away.

Something mainstream, maybe from 4kids sounds good.... English dub too....
Squeek
September 29th, 2005, 09:34 AM
The thing is, we don't LIKE (crappy) mainstream here. Because it tends to SUCK.
The only "mainstream" movies even worth mentioning are Knockin' on Heaven's Door (The Cowboy Bebop movie) and the two Ghost in the Shell movies. Mainstream here means they were on Cartoon Network and apply mainly to a "dub rox" audience like you. End of Eva isn't mainstream and it cannot work on its own. It requires that you watch the series first to get it, and the series hasn't aired on CN to the best of my knowledge.
Which is why some lesser-known Miyazaki films would be a good choice. Better yet, films that people don't hear much about like Grave of the Fireflies or Beyond the Clouds.
~Squeek
PS - Fixed to accomodate bottom post.

Saying we don't like mainstream is incorrect.
We don't crappy mainstream. FLCL, for example, is by no means crappy.
GuidoHunter
September 29th, 2005, 12:18 PM
Knockin' on Heaven's door just seemed like an extended episode of Cowboy Bebop to me. That is: nothing special.
And at least some episodes of EVA were shown on CN.

Oh shi.... I totally forgot about that anime. I don't like most Anime, but that is one of the few I like, and the only one besides Naruto that I'd d/l. I remember seeing it mentioned on Bemanai style, saw it, and it was spiffeh, but I forgot about it after uninstalling Limewire.
But why do many here dislike Cowboy Bebop, and why does everyone everywhere else regard it as the "best anime ever?" Although not the greatest Anime, it's a pretty goddamn good show and you can't deny it or you are quite stubborn on your belief that all Animes brought to America are the sucky ones.

Grave of The Fireflies IMO is overrated. I have two choices for nominees: Interstellar 5555 and Akira. Interstellar 5555 is a stand alone music video/anime based off of Daft Punk's Discovery album, and quite literally Akira is the one anime that changed the way people viewed Japanese animation forever.

I hate the main character of Grave of the Fireflies way too much to consider it anywhere near my favorite movies. What an ignorant, arrogant idiot.
Anyway, going strictly with movies, I think I am going to have to go with either Laputa: Castle in the Sky or Princess Mononoke.

It's the same thing as Spirited Away, just a different setting and characters. It's pretty much the same story. A young girl is in some undesirable situation, then the girl makes makes friends with a boy around her same age, they work together, the bad guy turns out to be not so bad and ends up helping them, lose ends get tied, everyone is happy.
This can be applied to Spirited Away, Laputa, and Howl's Moving Castle.

They usually stop after the first four tracks of Discovery, so yes. HBFS is where they'd stop.
