This is a terrible topic. I will make it better.

This weekend I saw a commercial for a movie with The Rock. I was like... WTF? Those guns and camera angles look not only like a FPS, but like doom! Is this for Doom the movie?

Lo and behold, 30 seconds later, they announce... DOOM!

So, this movie will almost certainly be up there with Resident Evil in terms of quality... but, hell, Doom brings back so much nostalgia, I'm gonna have to see it.

How many others have actually played the original Doom? Probably not too many, you kids are too young.

I played the Doom shareware demo as a kid, but just 3 weeks ago I had grabbed Doom Collector's Edition.

Doom 2 on Ultra-Violence is HAAAARRRRRD.

I played the original Doom almost every day when I was in elementary school. My friend would control the guy running and I would control the shooting haha. EGBDYF wtf is that cheat code again. IGBDF? All I remember is the Big ****in Gun.

Doom was released in 1993. If you are 13, you were ONE YEAR OLD when it was released. Fine, you played the game... but that is like talking about listening to Dookie (which came out in 1994). Its only nostalgic if you played it when it came out.

I've played Myst, but not until about 2 years ago... so, I wouldn't consider myself able to enjoy the nostalgia of the game, as I didn't play it back in its early years. That is what I meant. My apologies for poor wording.

okay yeah that makes more snese, the the myst example was a bit extreme.
If you want to understand how I can feel about htis, some of the earliest things I can remember are playing doom, wolf 3d, spear of destiny, and the like, so I get quite a bit of nostaglia (I have a terrible memory of my childhood, mind you).

True Benny... but, as much as you don't want to think about it, you're STILL IN YOUR CHILDHOOD. And, frankly, are a little young to think of ANYTHING (except maybe Barney) as nostalgic. Have patience... getting older is fun, yes... but responsibility sucks.

Even with the awesomeness of the Super Shotgun, I dare not touch Nightmare mode. Ultra-Violence just spawns so many monsters, it's...it's.....Unfathomable. Even if I put on IDDQD, I am still shocked by the massive army that hunts me down. Doom 3 should have been like this; instead of having one imp jump out of a vent and attack, have an entire wall burst open, revealing 7 imps. Doom and Doom 2 were scary, but not all the time. There were parts where you got that "Come and get it, boys. I got plenty of ammo." feel, too.



But now I'm getting offtrack.

Off topic a little also... anyone else play Duke Nukem 2? The sideways scroller? That game kicked ass. More ass than Duke Nukem 3D, that I'm sure most of you have played... and where that quote above is from.

Not Duke 2, but I did play the original Duke Nukem game. But even if I had played Duke Nukem 2, I bet I would still think it's not as good as...say...

Ah, Jazz Jackrabbit. Spectacular game. Too bad it won't run correctly on any computer made in the last five years.

And Doom II was good times back when I was younger. To this day it still remains one of my favorite FPSes. No game has ever been able to replicate the sheer awesomeness of the super shotgun.

I played it seriously (clans and all) for a long time.. Zdaemon, you can play it online. They have tournaments all the time.

I could never beat that LAST LEVEL OMG. The one where you drop into a room and there's like, 5 of every monster on the game. How are you supposed to do it?

Why the **** does the movie go into first. When you try to implement video game features into a movie it really kills the mood. Im watching the trailer in the movie theater and its like OMG this is gonna be so pimp then it goes into first person and WTF? This is what made house of the dead extremely gay.

I swear if the director for the halo movie tries that **** hes gettin' shot. Then the editors for not taking that out. I will shoot them so dead!

The model they use in the movie poster, as I said before, looks more modern for this day and age and not for the Doom 3 time. Also, it's pretty much the same model used for CS.

And i have to say Doom is one of the games that started todays FPS mods back then it wasint even fps lol. you just look and it auto aims perfectly no skill what so ever lol. but what ever the old school dooms are ****ign amazing i have the DOS version laying around my house somewhere and im only 16.
