Alright, I've waited fourteen hours, and since no one has made this topic yet, I will!

I went to the 11:59 showing last night and took my friend because she loves Tim Burton and Danny Elfman almost as much as I do, and because it was her birthday so I figured it'd be an awesome gift.

**Most likely Spoilers Below**

I absolutely loved this film. The art, the cinematography, the actors, (The casting agent did an incredible job to fit Burton's ideals for these characters), and of course, the music.

However, I have one and a half complaint.

I'm a person who tends to catch editing errors, because I pay a lot of attention to those sort of things since that's what I'm hoping to get into for my future career. **If you don't care about editing things, skip**I did notice that when they entered the factory gates, in a couple of shots, Violet was ahead of everyone else, and then in the next couple of shots, she was in line with everyone else. It made me wonder if Burton meant to do this because of the editing errors in the first Wonka film, or if it was purely coincidence. In the first Wonka film, the shadows from the buildings move around when Willy Wonka is coming out of his factory. However, I refuse to compare Willy Wonka and the Chocolate factory to Charlie and the Chocolate factory because they are two different things.

My biggest complaint from this film was the way Willy Wonka had a weakness. To me, Willy Wonka should be a mean, cynical man who doesn't care about anyone else. And he was perfect in this film, until he started thinking/having flashbacks about his childhood. Don't get me wrong, I loved the unique insight into his childhood and everything, it added to the story and all, but I felt that Willy Wonka should have more of a backbone. It was hollywood once again having to give reason to the audience as to why things are, (Which to me is more annoying than a little kid kicking the back of your seat all throughout a movie that you've been waiting months to see). As much as it irked me, I felt Burton did a good job incorporating it into the film, and it was interesting to see a different take on things.

Something I caught that I really liked was Tim Burton referencing to his previous movies (which is something he does in each of his films). This time, he referenced to Edward Scissorhands when it showed Wonka cutting the ribbon to his factory. Johnny Depp turns around, and all you can see is a dark figure of a pair of scissors attached to a hand, and a man. Time Burton never ceases to amaze me :)

I remember when I first read the Tim Burton was going to make Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, and I was really nervous for him. I wasn't sure if everyone else would appreciate his twisted view on life, and I felt he was making a huge leap by making a movie like Charlie and the Chocolate Factory, (A story that millions across the world are used to). What I was most worried about were the Oompa Loompa's. But my goodness. He pulled it off fantastically, and I was continuously cracking up at their songs.

**End of Spoilers**

All in all, I felt that this film was incredibly well done. Despite the miniscule editing problems, and my personal bias on the way Wonka should be, I'd say it's somewhere up in my top 15.

I give it:

9.75/10

Go see it :D I highly recommend it.

I saw it this morning. I was looking forward greatly to it. At first it was so awesome I was almost in tears. Shortly though, it skewed from the book. I loved that they used the "bad nut" scene as opposed to the lame goose egg from the original. The flashbacks were ok for me (anyone else think of acid?) but when the TOTALLY CHANGED THE ENDING OMG I was mad. That was lame. They totally didn't even leave room for Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator, but since just about all movies are sequals or based on something, I'd say Charlie and the Great Glass Elevator has a good chance of being made anyway even though they didn't set up for it right.

Also, the oompa loompas were a little dissappointing. Am I the only one who wants to see them in their true book form? I mean, I know it may be offensive to some, but that's how things are.

The music was decent thanks to Danny Elfman. He's so great.

Visuals were perfect. The only thing that bothered me was Charlie's crooked door. Tim Burton is awesome for that.

All in all, I'd say on a scale of 1-10, this movie gets a 7. It wasn't handled perfectly, but I know they could've done a LOT worse.

Also, I'm surprised they didn't use the speech on the boat. You all know what I'm talking about.

I seriously found nothing wrong with it.

This was seriously the best movie I've seen. It was funny, I mean seriously, a lot of laughs, and Willy Wonka couldn't have been played better, no, not even by the first Willy Wonka.

I forgot to mention this in my previous post, but I totally agree with Tank. Depp was perfect. I would have liked some sort of dissheveled look, but the clean and proper look seems to work well here. I thought Gene Wilder handled the part great, but Depp handled it great too.

Must be a part in the movie I take it.
That line (in a slightly different and less logical form) is in the original with Mr. Wilder.

In Charlie and the Chocolate Factory? I never saw that either. I have seen the first 30 mins of it, but then I had to go somewhere and I just never really wanted to watch it. Yes, Johnny Deep does good in this movie. (From what I hear.)

My Oppinion of this Film Was, It was exacitally how tim had wanted it and it was increadibly well casted for the way he wanted it to be portrayed, every aspect was very tim. However Willy Wonka is a Classic Movie and i just dont think you can recreate a classic and it still have all its might.. Thats liek redoing Wizard of oz you just cant do it.

I loved, absolutley adored in every way, The character of Willy wonka in this movies as portrayed by Depp, he was corky and Rahter insane.. Oh how perfect it was. However in the original Wonka wasnt insane, He was acctualyl this hard ass bad ass type of man under this Scrony looking Body. so it wasnt exacitally the right direction but i love it regaurdless, i was also dissappointed the umpa lumpas were not orange with green hair, However i loved them in this movie too.

I have to say The original Was Amasing

but this is very fine turn on the story and i liked it alot

i give it a 4 of 5

However in the original Wonka wasnt insane
Sure he was. Just look to the "rowers keep on rowing" speech during the boat scene. You tell me a sane man would say that. Gene's Wonka was more of a hidden insanity. You could tell based on certain things, but mostly he was ok. Like his all half office or how he tells one of the children that "all questions must be submitted in writing."

Also, stop comparing it to the original movie. This is not a remake of the original. It is a new movie based on an old book.

By the way, Oompa Loompas aren't supposed to be orange with green hair. They're supposed to be like ethiopians, but the movie industry doesn't want to offend people by bringing up the topic of slavery.

Damn straight.

Anyway,
It was absolutely beautiful. I saw it with tank and a few of my friends. It is probably my favorite movie. Probably would've been better though if i wasn't pissed about getting kicked out of the theater BEFORE the previews had started. The manager pretty much came in and said, "I can tell you kids are going to talk, so I'm going to kick you out." It was so stupid. But, after some creative talking and one of my group agreeing to leave, we finally got back in.

I know this is a double post, but it isn't on the same day. Anyway, I saw the movie! I think it was really funny and I loved it. I would love to see it again. =D Johnny Deep was perfect in that movie. I loved how high his voice was when he said "Alright." Haha. My friends and I laughed a lot. lol

When my brother saw the original"charlie and the chocolate factorie" my brother thought that the oompa loompas were high, what do you guys think??

Friggin Stewie avatars...too many of 'em, I say..."Willy Wonka and The Chocolate Factory" had nothing on this. The old movie was funny, but dead wrong. The title wasn't even correct. This one was much closer to the book, and Johnny Depp was damn funny. I did think the Oompa Loompas looked better in the old one, however, but meh, that's just me.

OKAY, this is a warning to those who haven't seen it yet, there may be some slight spoilers in the following... maybe. I liked the original more, this one was okay, but personally, Willie's personality and voice seemed extremely wishy-washy. I liked the Oompa-Loompas though, especially Doris. and I liked the whole Cannibalism thing in the candy room. The fact that they showed what happened to the other kids was a bonus.

Don't compare it to the first movie. The first one was completely wrong (as stated by multiple people already in this thread). It isn't the "original". It was pretty much a 2 hour long commercial for a new candy bar Quaker Oats was putting out at the same time the movie came out. The directors also went against Roald Dahl on many key things concerning the movie. Also, the "fact that they show what happened to the other kids" isn't a bonus. It's in the book. Maybe you should read it.

(Sorry about the page stretch)
Also, just found this. Admittedly, the new movie has some slight differences, but its a hell of a lot closer than the first one.

(Also, if you're going to talk about a movie, at least spell the main character's name correctly.)

No, it was nothing like the original, but the movie itself was very original. I thought it was funny, I thought it was cute, I liked the music much better then the first willy wonka movie. Tim Burton rocks, and Johnny Depp is ageless. It was dark, yet it wasn't at the same time. I lvoed it. No need to over analyze it, it was just cute, and "all kinds of amazing".
