View Full Version : Problem with SM "Skipping"

This recently just happened after installing my new sound card, a SBLive! LS. Oddly enough, my friend also has a problem with SM skipping, and he just put an Audigy2 ZS Platinum into his computer.

Basically the audio, the game, everything randomly jumps ahead a second, COMPLETELY throwing off everything. Any arrows within that second missed automatically register as misses. It makes no sense at all, and happens 1-3 times per song.

I have installed the latest drivers and everything too. I don't get how the sound card could affect the game like that though...

Anyone got an idea what's up?

hmm you might be running low on ram, and what version of sm are you running?

OK, check to see if you have any programs running in the background thats using up alot of the computers power. Say if you have lime wire running, it takes up alot of the computers power, so turn off lime wire, and right click exit on the bottom and your problem is solved. Press ctrl+alt+delete and go to processes(?) and look at what you have running and close everything that you dont need. I think thats how you do it, please let me know if i helped any, if not, sorry, =/.

Yes, Falcon is right. What sucks up all your processesing power is stuff that runs that you don't even know about. You can close anything that you recognize and has your name under the user. NEVER turn off anything system or explorer.exe.

Nope, that's not the problem.

Another bump... my hunch is that the problem revolves around my new sound card. Has anyone ever had to disable their onboard audio drivers, had a problem with the Realtek AC97 onboard audio, anything like that?

EDIT: For the record, Athlon 2800, 768 DDR RAM. I don't think it's my computer. It ran SM like a jewel over a year and a half ago, and still runs games like War3 and UT2004 like they were nothing.

What version of Live! do you have? Normal, 24-bit, or 5.1?

Im having problems with skipping too. It is only on certain files, and on the files that do skip, they skip continuously.

i have an Athlon XP3200, 1 GIG ram, Radeon 9600 Videocard, Stock sound card.
I don't think it's a lack of RAM causing this; upon checking my processes, there is nothing that is using an over abundance of RAM. This is really frustrating to me. My friend who has much older/slower comp has tried the same simfiles and they work fine, so i don't know whats up.

Yeah, I've got it the same as xhjbita...only on certain songs, and constantly throughout them...I've been told all we can do is wait until we get a new computer...since the files work for other people.

It can't just be ignored if the whole program's buggy...but I've got no idea what you can do.

Same problem as xhjbita and DDRERER here too: for the two songs I have this skipping problem with, a slower computer seems to have no problem playing them. Anyone have any idea what's going on?
