View Full Version : How to convince my parents

My parents won't buy me a pad for DDR because they think that the game itself is gay. To them, if I were to be using the pad, I would be a raging homo. This doesn't make any since at all, me having girlfriends and all. Anyways, I have tried everything to convince my parents that DDR isn't a homosexual game, even though I have seen some homos play it. Unfortunlately, I do not have the convinence of a local arcade, and I have only played pad on vacation (I'm not that bad at it either.) I have tried and failed in making homemade pads so I think I'll try to get one that works, however, I can't find a place to buy a converter without a credit card and I'm only 15. So. If there are any keen ways that you all have found to convince your parents to buy stuff, especially if they are afraid of you being something their prejudice against, then speak up. I really am desperately seeking a pad and converter, and until I find one I can pay cash for, I'm screwed.

Funny sidenote, my dad doesn't like me playing video games because I don't expend enough energy whilst playing them. However, a DDR pad wouldn't "work" for excersize because it's not an outdoor activity. Here's the catch, my dad uses a weight bench and a nordic track (I just use the bench, however) and they're not outside. Even if I catch him on this one (which I have on several occasions) he will outright deny that it presents any relivence. BULLSHIT I SAY, BULLSHIT!

my parents are EXACTLY the same; damn prejudice fools; well i dont know about your situation, but you could try to get one without their permission, like off ebay, they gotta have some, u just need your own account; personally what i did was to get my parents to play it once so they can see how addicting it is, it worked; but my pad broke real fast because i played too much; anywyas good luck

Itcouldbeworse,

I recommend getting a job so that you can buy whatever you want. :) At 15 you should be able to get a work permit in most states.

Cheers,

Here's my thoughts:
You say converter, do you have DDR for your PC? If so, get a BNS Ultra NX Pad (It's only 30 bucks and it comes with a Pc adapter). Ship it to your friend's house, air out the chemical smell, then bring it home and say your friend didn't want his pad and he gave it to you! TADA! I don't know how you'd pay for it though...
You could also tell your parents that you need some exercise, and you want to add DDR to your routine.

exactly what i was gonna say on that last note (well partially). Tell them its for excercise, even if your not going outside, open a window :P. Or have your parents try it, when they fail their ass and realize that it actually takes skill to do and you could improve on it, it may work.

You could also try my strategy of getting stuff, mow the lawn when they're not home, this way when they get home, you've already mowed, and they can't say no to giving you stuff, works every time.

Follow Digi's idea, and get the drivers if you want it for PC. I recommend DirectPadPro, works just awesome once you turn the controller type to PSX Digital, and input the controlls to your sim.

Easy for you to say, I can't drive without a lisenced gardian in the car and we don't have a public transportation option here in parkville. There aren't any close businesses nearby and I don't know of anybody else who has a job that needs more people working. That, and I manage a band, that sucks up a bunch of time. If there was a nightshift job, then I'd take it, but I don't think I could sleep. I treasure the band more than a DDR pad too.

I know I need to change my name.

wow, where i live 75c in a bargain, and $1-2 is the most common.

anyway, if the good ol' tell your parents its good exersize and that you don't get out enough anyway won't work, and trying to get them addicted to the game won't work, you can try to DL some clips off the net of people doing insane physical stunts on the pad and show it to them, being sure the people u dled don't look like 'homos'

Say it will keep you at home, and prevent you from going out to an arcade across town to hang out with potential druggies, it might be a nice slap in the face for them to realize what a stand you're taking against going out and stuff...lol

funnily enough my mom thinks it's great that I'm playing a game involving rhythm and skill rather than killing people. If I were to buy a DDR pad she'd think it'd be great to see me getting some exercise. As for your problem, KILL YOUR PARENTS... I wonder why my mom doesn't like me playing violent video games

Your parents are dumb, my parents are glad i play DDR cuz i actually get excersise instead of playing other non excersise games, like Xenogears.

I'd just go out and buy one, then if my parents made any fuss about it, I'd call them fscking bigits(I think thats the word I wanna use).

wow, I really have to say that your parents are very ignorant and nieve. It's... unthinkable! DDR is a great game, it has had very positive benifits for me... I have met new friends, and I have lost around 20 pounds since I started playing it (almost around 3 months now, I don't keep track)

Why do your parents associate this game with homosexuals? Besides... even if you were a homosexual... is that wrong? I'm not... but people should be able to live how they want to. Your parents are homophobes... and they are nieve...

As to the matter of getting DDR.. you can get the game and two (unknown quality) pads off ebay for 40 bucks

here you go

*gives you a bottle of pity*

I agree, but my technologically backwards parents go by the philosophy : video games of any sort = EVILLLLL THEY MUST DIE!!!!!
