The Werewolf Game is a forum-based game consisting of two teams where both are trying to outwit the others.

Here are the rules in a nutshell: The game is played in two phases, night and day. A certain number of the players (the number is announced at the beginning of the game) are werewolves, chosen at random. They know who each other are. Every night they PM the host (me) and tell them who they want to kill. That person dies that night. The next morning, the humans wake up with their friend dead and try to figure out who the werewolves are through interesting forum conversation. They cast a vote on who to lynch, and that person gets lynched. Whether or not they were a wolf or a human, no one (except the Psychic) knows until the end of the game.

NIGHT AND DAY DO NOT REFER TO THE REAL-WORLD NIGHT AND DAY, BUT RATHER THE GAME PHASES KNOWN AS "NIGHT" AND "DAY".

Votes can be changed during the daytime at any time. Voting lasts a minimum of 24 hours. After 24 hours, the votes are counted as soon as a) everyone has voted or b) one person has more than 50% of the votes (this is known as "insta-lynch.") If you fail to vote after 36 hours, you get a Phantom Vote against you at every lynching after that. Needless to say, too many Phantom Votes makes it a lot easier for you to be gotten rid of.

The humans have a variety of special players to help them against the wolves.

Seer - During the night, the seer has a revelation about a particular player. The seer privately informs me over PM the name of 1 person they want information on, and the host informs them if they are a werewolf or human. This is a powerful tool, but if the seer makes it obvious who he is, he's going to get wolfed.

Guardian - The guardian can protect someone from the wolves. The guardian PMs the game host (me) with the name of the person they want to protect. If the person is the same as the one the wolves pick to kill that night, their kill is unsuccessful and the public is informed who the intended target was.

Psychic - Every night, the Psychic is told how many wolves are left. This way the Psychic can figure out if the humans have been successfully killing wolves or not.

Masons - The masons are humans who have no special powers, but know that each other are human at the beginning of the game. MASONS REMOVED ON THE ADVICE OF KILGAMAYAN, WHO IS FAR BETTER AT THIS THAN I AM.

Night ends a few hours after I have all the picks from the people with special roles (wolves, seer, guardian.) The "few hours" is to create ambiguity - teams can't use who's online to determine who's got special roles. Speaking of which, keep your forum account on invisible and your AIM account to permanently away/idle during the duration of this game.

Needless to say, if you're dead, you're out. You can't post anymore in the game topic. Some last words are allright, as long as you don't state any of your opinions about the game itself or who's left. Also, you are forbidden to give your advice/opinions about the game over AIM anymore. This way the wolves can kill someone to silence them and their ideas if they worry that they're close to figuring them out.

The humans win if they successfully lynch all the wolves. The wolves win if they whittle down the number of humans to the point where they're even, at which point the wolves can murder them all without fear of retribution.

You only win if you're alive at the end of the game, even if you were originally on the team that eventually wins.

This is in Critical Thinking because the game requires a lot of it. This isn't a stupid forum game thread like "one word war" or "post something about the previous person" or something like that. This is an actual game with actual rules and actual winners, which doesn't happen in the game thread forum. Also, posting in here keeps out the stupid postwhores.

The game starts at night. It sucks that 1 person who signs up doesn't get to play, but that's the way it goes.

Only sign up if you are serious about playing this game and can check this thread at least every 24 hours. Don't sign up unless you actually want to play. If you do NOT want a special role because you won't be able to keep up with the demands of it, PLEASE PM me and tell me.

Full rules (a must read):
http://www.loogslair.com/twg.html
FFR rules take precedence over those rules.

There will be 20 players, 4 wolves, 1 seer, 1 guardian, and 1 psychic.

Can you elaborate on the masons? "but know that each other are human at the beginning of the game." if someone knows who all the humans are then they know who all the wolves are and the masons can all say who the wolves are and bam the game is over. I HAVE TO BE WRONG.

Just a select couple of people are masons.

The idea comes from the secret Masonic society.

The masons just know who the other masons are

so A, B, and C know that A, B, and C are humans, but nothing else.

It's just a voting block.

WTF IS FISSHY LD?!1/11/

I change my vote to LD because he can't spell and everyone knows that werewolves are terrible with the English language.

What the hell?

Seer, Guardian, Psychic and Masons?

Count me out of this. Even with four wolves this is way too weighted towards the humans to be fun.

Not really

Yea, I'm not going to be a part of this. I thought the last game was lame with how people played it.

Kilgamayan
November 8th, 2004, 04:31 PM
Yes, really.

We had a game recently at BMS with 4 wolves, a seer, a guardian and 3 masons (no psychic) and 14 people total. The humans won handily.

How do you think the wolves will fare with 5 extra humans AND a 6th extra human that's a psychic to boot?

Which would you recommend, Kilga:
-Remove masons
-Remove psychic
-Extra wolf

I'll take whichever COA you recommend - you're an old-timer.

But you better sign up when I do what you say :P

Extra wolf and no psychic.

It's always more fun with more wolves (IRL, that is. :P).

EDITL Oh, too late. I thought that would have made for an interesting game.

zildjian133
November 8th, 2004, 04:42 PM
We should try to masons this time to see what its like for future reference

EDIT and add a wolf and keep the masons

Or instead of TWG IV, we could play Diplomacy. ;O

If anyone wants to co-host with me (hypothetically), drop a line.

I hope whoever does number 4 will be as clever and as good a writer as Chardish.

I say this fully aware that I'm likely hosting #11 over at BMS. I might just use the same scenario. :p
