i must comment that final fantasy 7 is a very ownage game. But no matter what happens ever, i dont care if they create a game that shoots free money at you, the best game ever by far is definetely chrono trigger. i remember back in the day i used to play it for super nintendo i swear that game represents all that is gaming and good plot to me. It will always be my favorite game no matter what.

Umm, if there was a game that shot free money at me Im pretty sure that would get most peoples votes at best game, not nessisarilly The best plot or setting, but a hell of a good cast of characters, Mr .Benjamin, Mr. Franklin, Mr. Jackson, and all of their clones.

Yeah, final fantasy 7 was a pretty cool game, But when chrono trigger came out to the snes, it revolutionized the way i felt about rpgs! Dude, the action of this game is sweet! I love it so dang much! :D I hope they make a version of it for the Gameboy advance!!!

My GAWD there's a lot of great Square games left out of there!

The original Final Fantasy should at least get a -mention- on that poll, considering it's the game that started it -all-. And now, almost two decades later, FF1 remains one of my all time favorite games.

FF2 and 3 were...eh. FF3 was neat, 'cause it introduced the class change system, and actually had a plot, but it was a rather easy game. Though it was cool having an airship that was a submarine as well. :D

FF4 rocked, simply put. It remains to this day one of the hardest FF games out there, made even harder with the re-release of it on the PSX.

FF5...it was good, but I can see why it never hit the shelves in North America.

FF6. The single greatest achievement made by Square, bar -none-. FF6 was, and still is, considered the single greatest RPG ever made by anyone, ever, by many, many people, including way up there game critics, and myself included. It was simply fantastic, and I still love just sitting there and listening to the music. Ahhh, nostalgia.

FF7 was a -great- game, and comes in a close second to FF6. Brilliant plot, really nice system, and perhaps the coolest villain in FF history. >:D

FF8 ...blah. It was a good game by most standards, but it just wasn't living up to Square's reputation. The junction system was nice, but too much rides on those bloody GFs, and there are far to many loopholes and potential ways to abuse it.

FF9 and 10...well, as I don't have a PS2 (*sob!*) I can't give much input on them...but I hear they're pretty good. ;) I also hear that they don't come close to standing up to FF6 and 7, however...

Oh, let's not forget Final Fantasy Mystic Quest on the snes. *shudder* I wouldn't wipe my ass with that game. Square's biggest mistake, I think.

Final Fantasy Adventure on the gameboy (also known as Seiken Densetsu) was a pretty good game, and you can see the resemblance between it and it's sequel.

Secret of Mana (Seiken Densetsu 2) was an -amazing- game, to a point where I'd put it on a level just below FF7, I think. Brilliant story, and I think it was the first Square game to introduce those legendary hour-long boss battles that we've come to enjoy so much from Square games. ;)

Seiken Densetsu 3...I was -shocked- not to see this game up on that poll. SD3, the sequel to Secret of Mana (which never made it to america, unfortunately) was simply -astounding-, compared to its' predecessor. I'd put this game almost on par with FF6, slightly better than FF7.

Chrono Trigger....oh, yes, one of the most well-known RPGs ever, though personally, I think a lot of people kinna hyped it a bit. ;) It's not as good as a lot of people say it is, though it's certainly one tough game. The plot's a -little- cliche, though, and it could have been done better.

Chrono Cross and Xenogears....well, same boat as FF 9 and 10, unfortunately. Though I've heard a lot about them...and what I've heard was that they don't even come close to some of the older Square games. ;)

Hmm...let's see, did I leave any out? ...*coughs* No, I'm not a fan of Square, can you tell? Mwahahahah. >:D

But yes. FF6 was definitely the best, followed by Seiken Densetsu 3 and FF7. But that's just my opinion, anyway. ;) And now I shall stop the spammage.

Hey it's an older game but I say the best one is Super Mario RPG Legend of the Seven Stars for SNES. That's an amazing game. FF7 is one of the best rpgs too. Also, Kingdom Hearts.

As for Chrono Trigger I've never played it, don't know what it's about, and will never play it because I'm too lazy and there are games I'd much rather play. New ones.

Yes, admittedly...Square should NOT have teamed up with Disney to make a game. It's so wrong on SO many levels.

However, I'm not about to knock a game until I've played it myself...and from what I hear, it's actually a really good game. At least the majority of people who've actually -played- it think so. The rest of you really have no basis to say it sucks to begin with. ;)

You wanna know a damn good RPG to play...one I just started getting into the other day: Morrowind. I swear, that game will cause you to stop sleeping. It's the single most addicting RPG I've ever seen in my life. My GOD there's such much stuff you can do it's ridiculous! Fwahahah...I run the mage guild in my game. :twisted: ...Until I got turned into a vampire and now nobody'll talk to me. So I just steal all the stuff I want. ;)

You CAN'T go wrong with a game that lets you create your own spells right from scratch, enchant your own equipment, brew your own potions, scribe your own scrolls...and the sweet part is, if you have high enough thieving skills....everything's free!

Want to know a really good game that's not an rpg? Natural-Selection, it's a half-life mod that's aliens vs. marines. Everyone who plays it says it's better than counter-strike, and I agree. I hate counter-strike now just because ns is so much better. Well try it, you may like it. And yes, I played cs for a very long time but now hate it.

Reunited at Last

If the recent orrent of rumers hold true - which we're 99.9 percent certain theyw ill - the video game industy will once again be blessed by the collaborative efforts of a nintendo-published and Square Soft-devleoped game. The two companies worked well together in the 16 bit era, and we're confident that they'll be able to rekindle that old flame for the games of today. The first title to emerge from this soon to be announced union will more than likely be Crystal Chronicles - a simultaneous four playr action/RPG for the GameCube.

While the story and world thrive off the traditional Final Fantasy vibe, the gameplay is quite different - relying more on the team dynamic than it does individual heros. For instance, when assembling a party, it'll be in your best interest to mix character classes. The Japanese release date is currently slated as late summer, and while Nintendo won't confirm it directly, the US street date should take place shortly after.

*Edit* p.s. They're coming out with a Final Fantasy Tactics Advanced. I don't remember what system it was for(sorry) but it has enhanced graphics and gameplay so it should be pretty good seeing how the first one kicked some tactical ass.

Out of Square... I'd have to say Chrono Trigger. It has one of the best battle engines I've ever seen in a RPG, you could choose to engage enemies if you wanted to or not, you could do practically anything you wanted in the game, some of the best battles I've ever played through, best video game music PERIOD, it's funny, has a very deep plot... everything! Graphics are still some of the best I've ever seen (art was done by Akira Toriyama, who made DBZ and Dragon Warrior series), each character in the game had deep personalities... IT IS EVERYTHING YOU COULD ASK FOR IN A RPG!! PERIOD!!

This is my 2nd fave RPG of all time... My fave RPG is EarthBound. That game is just... awesome.

Alright folks, I have to say I read all the posts and I agree a little with everyone here and there. In my opinion for Music, storyline, and plot along with overall gameplay Final Fantasy Tactics for PSX is by far the best RPG... by FAR. Now, for characters, sure super mario RPG was fantastic. Who doesnt like throwing chomps at shyguys with bowser :wink: . Final Fantasy 7 as much as it was the 'staple' of every rpg gaming household, it does not compare to the pure gameplay that was FFVI (Final Fantasy 3). The characters in 6 were purely amazing. Shadow, Mog, Setzer... SABIN :D

Kingdom Hearts was actually a very fun game... not the greatest but great concept and very fun. The second one is being released quite soon and will be even better.

People also do not realize some great quality square games that were made. Such as Bahamut Lagoon(the last SNES square game)

Also dont forget about Super Metroid one of the BEST SNES games. Or games in general

Just to clarify.. Chrono Trigger NOT THAT GREAT! (cept magus was cool as hell) otherwise a so so game. Secret of Mana charging a weapon was never fun. Seiken Densetsu 3 was great!. Xenogears fantastic but doesnt make my list. FF2 Cecil and Kain awesome but other chars SUCKED!. FF5 job class system was a great idea but ahead of its time. FF8 has the coolest characters (squall,zell,seifer) with one of the worst battle systems, the guy who thought DRAW was a good idea was fired..not really but should have been. FF9... all i can say is THIS IS WHEN SQUARE WENT IN THE CRAPPER. Horrible characters crap story, main character was a clone monkey kid from some planet .. GARBAGE ugh. FFX the biggest joke ever released other then mystic quest P.O.S nothing good about it...blitzball LMAO. Finally FFXI and FFX-2 as i ranted in another forum topic about FF sequels this proves that square is over.. FFXI or everquest (Throws up in a bucket) is a travesty to the square name and since when have they done SEQUELS!.. ESPECIALLY to the worst of all FF's. Carrying over the worst character FROM the damn game. Hell the Draw system for magic in FF8 was terrible but Yuna becoming Lara Croft and FFx-2 being charlies angels/Tomb Raider Ripoff/HORRIBLE, just shows that obviously square doesnt listen to its fans. Give me an SNES anyday.

I hate Squaresoft. They have a total of 2 good games. FF6, and Final Fantasy Tactics. They have some decent ones, like Crono Trigger, but in the end, the majority of their games totally blow. For references, see: FF7, and FF8.

I liked the secret of mana. It was the midified rpg style. I liked FF5, and loved FF6, but my favorite has to be ChronoTrigger. The make of the game had such a great story, and magic wasn't a huge ordeal of 100 spells which you could spend 3 hours on and still not know about what they all do.

The credits that role ARE INTRO CREDITS. Sort of like almost all movies have. That is by no means the end of the game. That's, what? 5 minutes of gameplay? That's not even "the tip of the iceburg" of the easily 30+ hour game.

Sure, it may have been the most "realistic looking" barring FF10, but you had a guy running around with a sword that should have blew his hands off each and every time he attacked. The whole Guardian Force thing was total tripe. It didn't matter about the characters, it mattered which GF they had equipped. I liked it back in FF4 and 6, where each of my characters fought totally different and had different abilities.

Let's not even get into how lame it is that each of the main characters in the game want to school forever with each other and yet none of them could remember they've ALWAYS been best friends.

Final fantasy seven is my vote definetally. FF7 is what introduced my to the world of RPGs all those long years ago. It was nice and long, it had a strong plot, the fighting was quality, and best of all -- i actually LIKED the characters. Not so with these new square games, like ff10. Regardless of how good that game was, i just could not get into it because of the characters. Runnerup: chrono trigger. And by the way, i thought that ff8 was pretty good too. Not great for sure, but i really did enjoy it. Gunblades are cool.

i can't stand standard RPGs... i greatly enjoy games that have HUGE customability and replayability... recent and past great RPGs: Wizardy 8, Baldur's Gate, Arcanum, Fallout... those games have so much replayability with so much customization and different styles... i must have played Wiz8 about 7-8 different ways.

I'm not going to read through all of the 14 pages, but I'll give my opinion.

FF6 = easily the #1 Square RPG... Most fun... longest... Maybe not the greatest graphics... but they really aren't what make a game. FF7 I think was overhyped.. it was a great game.. but can't compare to FF6.. which I own in Japanese for Super Famicon. :O

FF8 was decent, FF9 was ok... FFX was.. fun but really didn't live up to my expectations. It was too easy, I didn't like the massive cutscenes over the greater gameplay. FFXI was fun for about 3 months, then I stopped paying for it.. =\

Secret of Mana is my #2 pick... I'm not sure if it was on the poll or not. Chrono Trigger and Chrono Cross were definately a lot of fun, but to me they just didn't compare to the FF series.

Another great game (can't remember if it's made my Square or not) is Tactics Ogre, for GBA. Not a very well-known game, there were limited copies of it made... but it was based on the Ogre Battle series... and plays a lot like Final fantasy tactics... which came out soon after on GBA... was also a very good game... though I thought Tactics Ogre was better. :P

Awww c'mon.. As much as I like the FF games, I'll have to say that I voted Chrono Cross as being my most favorite, with Xenogears at a close second(at least on teh pole)

Other favorites that aren't on the pole are Brave Fencer Musashiden, Dew Prism/Threads of Fate, and FFVIII

god, way too many games that I like. Can't really pick just one.

Chrono Trigger wins, I guess, since it's like 15 years old and I still love it.

I played through FF7, 8, 10, and 10-2. I liked'em all cept 10-2. Plot kinda sucked. Alot.

And don't even get me started on Kingdom Hearts. I played that game so much I beat the game 100% (Ultima Key, all dalmations, all trinities, beat sephiroth) in a week.
