Yep and ill explain the xstep and notepad for ya

xstep-for xstep, its pretty easy, no numbers required. all u gotta do is click on certain bars to put a arrow there but it might take ua while to get the actual timing right if u want certain steps during certain lyrics/instrumental hits and for freeze arrows just rick click and the next bar under that arrow will end the freeze. make sure u have winamp for gettign the bpm, or u could always use winbpm.

notepad- using the notepad will takea lot of patience. you have u do lots of complexe things for arrows; all of it basically is tons of numbers (for example 00000000) for no arrows on one measure and so on.

i havent tried sm yet, but i kno that its pretty easy but there can be errors caused by the editor if u change the .sm to .dwi for dancewithintensity. if you need to fix it simply download a dwifixer.

First, make a folder with the mp3 file in it. Then go into the main application. In the main menu, choose Edit/Sync Songs. Now, choose your folder and you can start editing. It's pretty easy to figure out, it shows how to do it on the screen. But since I'm a nice guy, I'll tell you the basics.
Create arrow: On the selected beat, to insert an arrow, press one of the number keys. 1 = Left, 2 = Down, 3 = Up, 4 = Right.
To create a freeze (AKA Hold) arrow, Hold down the corresponding number(s) while holding shift and pressing down until you have how much you want.

What i didt was first get a song, and made a background and banner, then i went into xstep to make the .dwi and went into stepmania to make the arrows

Alright, SM isn't doing this for me. It's not creating a DMI file for it.

Fill a sm notepad file with the template in this thread:

Then put it in the folder with the mp3, and open sm>edit/sync songs>[your song]>then create one and open.

There should be a dwi file in your folder after.

(or just use notepad with the template in the sticky)

there's no point in using anything other than sync editor since you won't make a better file in notepad even if you knew how
