I stumbled upon this game where you are to type the alphabet as fast as you can. Basically that is all. What is your guys' fastest time? Mine was 2.875 seconds. Unfortunately I was in class when I was about to make this thread and upload my screenshot but the bell rang and I had to close everything up to make it to my next class. Well HERE (http://www.funny-games.biz/fingerfenzy.html) is the game.

Well apparently people in the last thread were getting under 1 second and by under a second I mean 1/10th of a second. Something about bots. I didn't read to in depth on it. But i really want to get under 2 seconds!
EDIT: What messes me up is this:
b - c - d - e
that little part messes me up it is C - D - E with one finger. bleh.
It takes me longer to type "The Alphabet" than it takes most of you guys to type the alphabet. :l

I got 2.8 and then stopped. I can pretty consistently get around 3 seconds, but going faster than that is difficult.
Edit: 2.522, but consistently going faster than 2.9 is difficult D:

4.4 second try
typing the alphabet is awkward as fuc on a qwerty keyboard because it has long clumps of letters next to each other and absolutely no english word is structured like it

Damn this is hard. After many tries my best is still 2.735
EDIT: with my new technique I managed 2.234
EDIT2: 20 minutes later I manage 2.219
EDIT3: Well, I might be able to do better, but seeing as I can only manage to not miss a letter 5% of the time, I quit.
EDIT4: No one's gonna see this, but I just broke 2 seconds!!!!!!!!! I got 1.968!!!!!!!!!!!! Woooooooooooooooooo!!!!!!!

Does anyone even type in Dvorak?
Yo. I type in both Dvorak and QWERTY.
does anyone know if dvorak makes it easier or harder?
I type in Dvorak faster mainly because that's how I learned how to type. I learned how to type in QWERTY because I had no choice but to type with it on school computers, but that's the only time I use QWERTY. Most of the time I'm at home and I use Dvorak to type. I'm using it right now as I am writing this post. It's hard to give you a real answer for this because people will type better with whatever key setting they are used to. I think QWERTY is hard to type in, but a lot of people think typing in QWERTY is easy.
Also, here's is my fastest time as posted in the previous thread about this game. It was after my 4th to 5th try because I don't believe this is an accurate measure of your typing skill if you repeat the same series of letters over and over again.

4.359. this is my contribution to the thread.
Well, there was a more fun and entertaining typing game that I know aperson posted a long while ago. It threw up several words, and you would type them. It cycled in rounds and whatnot, and some of the rounds would toss up words that you could only type with one hand. For example, "drawer", or "kill".

This thing is really easy, it's all reflexes. Want a challenge, try typing the alphabet backwards. It takes just a bit of practice to be hitting sub-two seconds with ease.

You're used to typing certain patterns...the alphabet, being an awkward pattern, is hard as hell to do really fast.
They redefined mashing. Where's that clicking one, Phynx got like, 121 on that in 10 seconds. His hand vibrated.
sumzup
11-14-2008, 01:20 AM
That didn't answer my question at all. In fact, it just made it seem harder.
Let me put it this way: you can type real words really fast because you're used to them, but not fake words (i.e. the alphabet) unless you mash random crap.
tsugomaru
11-14-2008, 01:32 AM
Unless you do this over and over again, it's all reflexes. You have to think of the next letter coming up and type that 26 times. When you're typing sentences, you have to think of the next word coming up and you're usually given a little more time to react because words take longer to type than single letters.

You have to have a methodology. So develop patterns that you can do for certain strings of letters, and then when you perform the entire pattern correctly, you get an ungodly time. (I myself have only gotten 4.something, but I'm working on it). For example, I have a method whereby when I start I can get A-F within an instant. GHI and JKL follow soon after, then MN and OP. From there I start to fall apart, mainly because I haven't practiced the last half yet. But it will come soon...

Sprite, here's what I did to get the 2.2 second one ;):
I hit A and B, and then slide my finger up to hit CDE and to the right to hit FGH, then type the rest. (Yes, it's stupid, I don't care. XD)
Even so--without doing anything crazy, I still can get around 3 seconds.

I can get 2.9. And i am an average typist. All you have to do is - do it over and over and eventually for fingers just know where to you and you will get a lucky run.

People keep saying, "do it over and over," but for me when I do this multiple times I get terrible times (5 seconds).
What I do is this.
1) Type in a reasonable speed looking at the screen and not the keyboard. I get about 5 seconds on this and do this 3 or 4 times.
2) I look at the keyboard (of course having the alphabet memorized) I type the alphabet as fast as possible.
The hardest part for me is the first part: c-d-e. That string of letters I use one finger for; my middle finger.

They keyboard you're typing this on won't make more than 0.1 of a second difference.
Also, the reason why I say doing this over and over again helps because when you repeat it, your mind will remember the motions for it and it takes less thinking to associate the letter with the key you need to type.

Getting under 5 was really easy, an I only type like 80 wpm. Don't look at the screen, look at the keys. Thought it was pretty obvious but just throwing that out there in case.

Besides practicing a lot, you can always do a slow run, then a run at a slightly faster pace, then another slightly faster one, and so on. Sometimes it helps more than simply hitting the keys as fast as I can repeatedly, which tires me out.

It's not reflex it's memorization. If I couldn't recite the alphabet backwards in my head sub-2 seconds how would I type it?

Fine. Memorization and reflexes. Knowing the alphabet backwards, then familiaring yourself with the required finger movements by practicing.
