Ok, so I have a website and I want to have things available to download. Can anyone help me out and tell me how to make that possible by using HTML code?

I don't see how this is a HTML thing, a direct link would be fine. Or if you're trying to get a chunk of text to link to something, you'd use:

<a href="http://www.url-goes-here.com">Link text</a>
for it to appear like this: Link text (http://www.url-goes-here.com)

To have an image link to something you would use:

<a href="http://www.url-goes.here.com"><img src="http://www.url-goes-here.com/image.jpg"></a>
for it to appear like this:
http://www.flashflashrevolution.com/images/2008/ffr-logo.png (http://www.url-goes-here.com)


Otherwise, be more specific.

What are you trying to do? Do you want links on your website, do you want to put files on your website so you can link to them? You can at least explain that much.

And you dont know how to be nice do you. Obviously I am trying to learn. I have a ftp server but all I know how to do is upload baby stuff to it. I would like help if ppl are willing to help me. If you dont like my threads then don't post on them.

I would be more than happy to help you (I have a good 8 years of web design under my belt) and it looks like there are others who are knowledgeable as well. But in order for anyone to help you, you need to be specific and let people know exactly what you are trying to do. Please try to do that when you first post, so we don't have to drag it out of you like pulling teeth out through your rear-end.

Ok I do not know how to explain this very well... This is how I will explain in my way:
1. Go to aethereality.net
2. Click on Designs
3. And click download on any of the layouts.

That is what I want to do on my website but with stepfiles. Does that make sense?

So you're trying to put a download page on your website, then. Do you know how to build webpages? Usually you don't hand-code pages from scratch. You'll need a basic web design program to build yourself some pages. Find one of those, go to a free template website and grab a design for your website, and then you'll be ready to start creating your page.

Once you have that, you'll need to make a webpage called index.html and put it in the root folder of your FTP. Then build a few more pages, put them in that same folder, and link to them from your homepage. When you're done with that, create a subfolder in your FTP called /stepfiles or something like that, and upload all of your stepfiles into that folder. Once that's done, you can link to those files in your "downloads" page.

That's probably too complicated, but let me know if that helps. It would be useful to know what tools you have and what you know about web development. Do you have a .com address? If not, what are you working with?

It sounds like you're in a little over your head. Have you considered using a free web service like angelfire or tripod? I haven't kept up on those types of sites, but they're easy to work with and are mostly self-explanatory.

No, it's a PDF manual to teach you how to use the software. It's what I'm using now and is very good. It's Dreamweaver CS3.

Tried them. Too confusing imo. Plus my dad already pays for having ftp or w/e... Godaddy. idk. But I already have a website, already have a design, have it ready all I need though is to find a code or whatever that enables me to have downloads on my website similar to how the website aethereality has theirs up and running to download website layouts. I simply want mine to be songs instead. But if you have aim I can show you what I have? Idk

The manual makes it easy though. First you learn how to do it in notepad...just simple stuff, then you're slowly immersed into Dreamweaver.

Ok this sucks... When I do that, and I try clicking it, it always comes up with the FORBIDDEN page. Do you have aim? I think it's easier than forums in a way "/

Ok so is there a simple code that works when I upload it to my FTP server and will not pull up the Forbidden page anymore? It always says that I do not have access to a certain filepath when I see no reason why it shouldn't work. Please help? Just give a simple yes or no answer and if yes, how do I do it. My AIM sn is "abigailspiano" and I am usually on a lot during the day after 2pm (NV timing)

If I remember correctly you can use anchor tags and make then downloadable

How you do that exactly, im not quite sure but an anchor tag is like this though
