- Rate the Above persons avatar/signature/person.
- lol hi tgb gais - ffr is gey gais - something about the same bug that everyone has posted about - another random **** thread etc.... Is anyone else sick of getting a post count raise from these? So what, in those categories I'd say many of us have about +200 posts.... I remember last year, when the conversations we had (amung other things) were worth something. Why not a few more of those good conversations? Where is Devonin? ![]() /rant

I've noticed that the quality of these forums have decreased greatly over the past month or two. I think they should really just lock "What are You Listening too" and other similar threads like "Rate the Above Persons Avatar". I tried starting conversation in What are you Listening to but people just ignore all other posts, post their song, and walk away with a post count.

You guys are lucky to have devonin as a mod...you have no idea. He is one of the most reasonable mods we have, and he is always willing to hear testimony and even griping about bans - half the time he lifts the ban, or lessens the severity.
And, he's never banned me (I think...). ![]() If you feel there's a lack of content on this site, and therefore a lack of threads for you to legitimately raise your post count in, then perhaps you should become more proactive in creating discussion worthy topics. Every forum has game threads that are worth a postcount +1. On a message board I used to moderate, a section of it didn't even increase your postcount if you posted in it. I think they should do that for the game threads, since a lot of them are pretty mindless and get spammed up.
Also, TGB threads don't pop up on the most recently posted threads column on the right side of the main page. What blows my mind is that 1mil get DOES. Why would you hide TGB, which actually has content sometimes, and not hide 1mil get? You guys should really hide 1mil get. I realize that some threads aren't worth your time, but just ignore them if they aren't. Also, if you want a good conversation, why wait for someone else to start one? Start one yourself. Don't leave it to everyone else. And concerning Devonin, he banned me once and I didn't think it was unfair. He even discussed the length with me and admitted he had been harsh about it. |

TGB is hidden from view because the content of it can be offensive. End of story.
Personally, I 100% disagree with TGB counting for post counts, but then I've always disagreed with 'pointless' and 'offensive' posting. I think that we need Devonin back, and I was banned by him. He is a very good guy, and has a lot of good things to say. And on the topic of 'make your own thread worthy discussions'... My views are so different and biased that it's very hard to make such threads... Thanks,

Honestly, Devonin is an intelligent person, but everything he seems to believe in and stand for is completely opposite my beliefs. However, that doesn't take away from what he's done for this site. Although I may not agree with most of what he says, he provides deep, intellectual answers and gives a reasonable argument for whatever topic that is being discussed. As such, if you are looking for an intelligent thread, maybe revive some of the threads he started or ask him to make another one.

he goes on about the same thing over and over using different big words, and tries to throw you down. i didn't know being intelligent meant you have a big vocabulary.

What exactly are you looking for in these forums? What kind of threads do you want people to post, and above all else, what qualifies as a 'good conversation' may not be of equivalent value to someone else. It's hard to please every single person on a forum. |

It's hard to define a good 'post' in comparison to good 'content'. Depending on the situation a post like "e=mc˛" could be absolutely full of content that everyone enjoys/understands, even though it only contained 5 characters.
In my opinion a good quality conversational thread consists of: ● People who can relate or give fully explained opinions ● People who are posting because they feel they are ether correct or feel the need to convince people otherwise ● Posts that generally aren't one liners. Unless you are directly answering a question a single sentence post should not be possible in a quality thread. Even if you are answering a question, one should supply 'too much information' or a little more then necessary. Ex. Question: "Do you really think that Datastor HDDs 'suck' because [insert argument here]." Answer: Good, but pointless "Yes, Datastor HDDs 'suck for that reason." Good, and continuing the conversation "Yes, Datastor HDDs 'suck for that reason, and though you may disagree X source of information has continually convinced me." Now that's pushing it with examples. Enough of that. "What exactly are you looking for in these forums?" I want to see a flame, spam, and bashing free community. I'm looking for people who wish to try to be accepted. Those who fail to follow rules because they are too lazy to read them, or those who knows the rules but are pure 'A-Holes'... they do not deserve to contribute to this forum until they smarten up.

I really have to agree with the OP. I have been posting on this site for a little over a year and a half. When I first started posting, we didn't have half the "rate the person above you" type threads we have now. There was a lot more decent conversation.
Now it just seems like the -only- reason people post is to plus their post count. They don't care if their post doesn't make sense, or if its on topic, they just want to be heard, and don't care about what other people have to say. |

Not to mention, if you do harbor such views, then how could you respond to someone else's "good" thread even if you see one? If your views are so different, then you won't be appreciated even in your replies.

+1 postcount started years ago. Before you people even joined the website. Believe it or not, Chit Chat used to be good... 3 years ago. 2006 it started turning into crap and now it's where it is. Worse crap.

Well, it's natural though. FFR is a quickly growing community and as FFR attracts more people, there will be more absent-minded posters. Had I been a mod 4-5 years ago, I would have had the same attitude as yours when it came to the type of threads that should or should not be locked and I probably would have been very unforgiving to said type of threads or posts.
But since then, my mindset has changed a lot because this is a large community and if the community wants this or so thread like "post what you're listening to", then so be it. I don't ever need to click it if I don't want to and I don't have to ever read posts from posters who tend to post useless things. The forums are not here for just us to use but everyone who wishes to come to FFR and if creating and posting in threads like "post what you're listening to", then that's their business. FFR has an amazing staff who does an extremely good job keeping the forums from cluttering with terrible threads and has done plenty to improve the community as a whole. ~Tsugomaru
