Default TUTORIAL: Transitioning Backgrounds v2

In response to the new profile layout I have made a second version of my previous tutorial discussing this topic..

Have a read:

I appreciate any feedback, and please make any changes you think necessary to my attention.

UPDATE:
"Step 3" text was white while the other step labels were orange. Fixed.
"Step 4" was incorrectly labeled "Step 3". Fixed.
Made some grammar corrections.
Added a red outline around the "Background Contents" selection in the New Canvas screen.

one downside of having the whole image as the background is that the chance of the background going over the file limit of 5xx kb
you should also add drop shadows to the images that whould make it look all 3d and stuffs

I don't know why I didn't make a tutorial earlier since I knew exactly what to do like 20 mins. after the change. Very nice guide though. There are some things that I think should be added or changed. The visible background width is now 944px, so you'll want to set up the background for that width. The new banner size is 942, but an invisible banner can be just 1px wide because it's not going to make a difference how wide it is since it's invisible.

Usually if I save the image as a .JPEG with the compression set to 9 (I think) it produces a decent-quality image with a reasonable file size (in Photoshop).

Oh, and as for the dropshadow suggestion, I might have considered doing that to the orange text in order to make it more readable. However, I can't edit the image now because I had to reformat my hard drive in order to reinstall Windows. None of my stuff was backed up, so all my .PSD files (including Photoshop itself) are gone.

Forget about what I said about the background being 944px wide, I forgot they fixed it and it's no long like that, it's 942px wide like the banner.
