Default Robots will be closer to "God" than humans

When sentient robots arrive, they may be closer to God than humans.

Many philosophers believe that our senses distract us from the truth (ex Plato). It is the bombardment of sights, sounds, feelings, daily sensation related thoughts, aches, pains, hunger, etc that prevent us from becoming closer to God.

All traditional religious practices that are performed in order to bring one closer to God, involve some cutting off of these distractions. ex. fasting to cut off from food, chanting to still the mind, abstinence, and meditation (most obviously) to block out all senses and distractions.

A sentient robot could be free of most (if not all) of these distractions. A sentient robot could even be capable off turning its senses on or off at will. In this way, these robots may be closer to God than we humans can ever hope to be.

Meditation is an attempt at a heightened spiritual state through calming the body and mind, and ignoring senses and thoughts. Some even go so far as to put themselves in "sensory-deprivation chambers". These are person sized compartments inside which the person would be locked, floating in saltwater, for several hours. The aim of this is the total (near total) elimination of senses, in order to reach a heightened spiritual state.

I do not know if those heavily devoted to meditation would describe the experience as being like a rock, as some have suggested, but if they would does it matter? If being like a rock is closer to God (or a higher spiritual state) then isn't that preferable to the religious?

AI Robots won't be closer to "God" than humans. They will tell humans that "God" doesn't exist.

Robots don't have souls. Humans are the only ones.

if robots rebel all we'd have to do would be nuke 'em with an EMP. I don't get why they didn't do that to the frist few rebelling robots that took control in the matrix.

Hmm..that is a good question, I've been doing some meditating and yoga and so one my own time for about 3 years now and it does seem to bring you to a higher level of perception after sitting in perfect silence for an hour or two.

I've also been in one of those "sensory-deprivation chambers", it does bring you to a different level of sensory perception. I think these two methods of shutting off your senses have something to do with unlocking small sections of the brain that are not used.

Another thing, souls is a coneceptual theory Aleco...you can't prove that something has a soul or not. Have you ever heard anyone be called a "Soulless" person? So how can you prove that humans have souls and a robot doesn't? How can you prove that souls exist?

Oh and since God has come up in this conversation, I don't believe in a "god" as many do, I believe in the life force of every living being on the planet ultimately comes together to form an enormous energy which controls the conecpts of fate and destiny. So all in all, we're all part of something muchmuch bigger than ourselves.

Now where do drugs come into place for spiritual guidance?..it has been used for centuries in the past. There are many theories about their use, to reach higher planes of existence, contact supernatural beings, etc. One of the old nicknames for psylocybin was "God's Flesh". I think our society needs to learn more about how these mind-altering substances work, because I believe they may be the key to unlocking things in our mind..heck, we can't know for sure.
And I know that robots will not believe in god unless we program them to do so, and to us, we pretty much are their gods as Varia said.

First, prove the Soul exists.

Then, disprove that other living creatures do not have one.

Then prove that Robots cant have one.

Not everything in life can be proven. Don't always need proof to believe.

People have died on beds with scales built in, they weighed less after they died by a few ounces. Doesn't happen to animals, though. And I think meditation stuff is stupid. I'm gonna totally shut off all of my senses so I can use all my senses better. How does that make you closer to God? The only thing it gets you closer to is a made up idea of "enlightenment" created by some people with way too much time on their hands. No one ever gets closer or further from God, except after you die. You can enhance and lose your faith, but it doesn't make you any closer to God than the next person.
