I'm basing info off of some stylistic writing and grammar-related books I've read to help with my essay writing. My favorite that mentions this rule is Elements of Style, by William Strunk. I think it's rule 2 or 3 or something.

I'm in, but quick question.
Should we PM our answers instead of posting, so others can't just copy? Or is it just first and second to post the right answer |

In. If these are half as good as Rubix's, these will be awesome. Or they could be better. Time will tell...

If it's anything like the riddles I made in my tournament, the method of submission is revealed if you solve the riddles correctly.

For singular nouns you always include the 's (excepting of course Jesus and Moses); for plural nouns you only have the apostrophe.

No, not true. The Jesus/Moses thing is a valid case, yes, but there are many cases where s' is acceptable for singular nouns. To say that only ancient names/etc are able to have s' is incorrect
Edit: I should say, it is nonstandard -- but not incorrect. http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Apostro...ive_apostrophe http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Saxon_genitive Anyways kinda silly to argue over it lol, it's more a matter of convention Last edited by MrRubix; 10-23-2007 at 09:19 PM.. |
