Default Do corporations have any moral responsibility?

Do corporations have any moral responsibility?

The Chinese police state is a great investment says US hedge funds.

The US economy may be on decline but US hedge funds investors considers the Chinese police state to be a good investment for our global economy.

“China’s Hot Stock: Orwell Inc” is the headlines over an article in the NYTimes published September 19, 2007.

“In a stunning report in the New York Times last week, correspondent Keith Bradsher documented the rise of China's electronic surveillance industry, whose leading companies have incorporated themselves in the United States and obtained the lion's share of their capital from U.S. hedge funds. Though ostensibly private, these companies are a for-profit adjunct of the Chinese government.”

Do US corporations have any moral responsibility to the citizens of the US?

Do US corporations have any moral responsibility to the people living on this planet?

They have the same level of moral responsibility as anyone. Helping police states is probably a bad thing. I don't think doing business with them is inherently wrong unless it contributes to suffering though.

It seems to me that when a corporation does its business only within a nation the citizens will keep them from egregious foul behavior but when they become international all bets are off. Globalization sets corporations free like they never have been.

Well, no offense bro, but you reading the New York Times gives you less credibility than respect IMO. I don't know if this was a column that caught your eye all of a sudden, or maybe you're dependent on the NY Times and you read it, religiously.

I'm sorry to say, I think they're biased and very one-dimensional and they lost focus on how to truly cover a story as-is, from all perspectives.

To answer your question:

Yes, corporations do have a moral obligation/responsibility to its citizen, but not so much through monetary contributions, but giving back to the local communities (i.e., education funds; school equipment; after-school programs; scholarships or creating more jobs for the homeless.

Whichever... either way, I agree that it IS their responsibility as MUCH as it is, ours.

If you look a little further, like, looking in any of his posts "Technology makes the passive life seducing" on those forums you'll see where I completely sup'd him on each and every one, as all of these people finally notice that he treats them with no respect whatsoever, not even bothering to give responses that are particular to the topics at hand.

Consider what it says about him that in a critical thinking/philsophy stlye forum, not only does he copypasta all his thread topics onto multiple forums, but he even copypastas his -responses- to people onto multiple forums.

He even informed one forum of what "one reader responded" when it was -on that forum- and -in that thread- that the "reader" responded. A response Coberst had -already- quoted and responded to earlier in the thread.
