Okay, so I was watching this show on TLC and they featured this guy who was married to 2 girls and he had another fiance. He even has a legal document stating he can marry more than one girl. He even has kids! Now, I don't know about you guys, but I just think that's wrong. Marriage is all about having that one special guy/girl in your life. How would you feel if your husband/wife was shared between you and some other people. I would feel very uncomfortable. Same goes for Hugh Hefner.
So, how do you feel about the subject? |

What about Hugh Hefner? And I thought polygamy was illegal in the U.S.? If this guy isn't in America, then I feel fine about it, because other nations have different cultures, and different views on marriage.

If everyone's okay with it, what's wrong with it?
I don't know if I'd be okay with it personally, but why stop other people from doing it? They don't affect you. Let them do what they want. It doesn't do any harm if everybody involved understands what's going on.

The only reason i see it as being a problem is if a wife doesnt know about it, but then again she could very easily turn around and get a divorce if its in the U.S. that is. For it to work though the wives would have to agree that thats what they want which is their preference.
Which goes against my personal opinion... i wouldnt ever support polygamy though. |

I think it's only legal in a very small city/town somewhere out west. My girlfriend and family went to a bookstore that happened to be in that town and were quite suprised. I think the reason it's legal is due to religion. The claim is that part of their religion is that they may have multiple wives, and the government is having a hard time around it. I also heard that if some of the women there try to run away, for clear reasons, the police and officials of that town actually try to hunt them down and bring them back, or something of the sort.
I truely think that 1 wife is enough. Love is a great thing and true love should be focused on one person, and not divided between many. But I can't put up too much of an argument, seeing as we only believe what we believe because of how we were rasied. If our parents and company insisted that many wives was proper, then we would all believe that. To us it seems wrong or even disgusting, but to them it's completely ordinary. I still think they should all go make a colony somewhere in Antarctica and let America be, but by doing so, we would be infringing upon religious rights, and that we cannot do. |

But one question: How is it hurting you if they do it HERE?
I mean, if all parties involved have clear knowledge and are fine with it. How does this hurt you? Or ANYONE? Don't talk about "values", talk about people.

what they don't kno, can't hurt em
basically true in this case im all for ppl being happy and all, as long as it doesn't cross the line and marriage...well that's seem to have lost it's meaning over time some ppl hold marriage to be something so important and sacred while others are like o well if it doesn't work out i can get a divorce

I think this thread needs to be renamed, having a sugar daddy means being in a relationship where a much wealthier man supports you completely financially, but in a way that you are not married, or even necessarily dating, and instead we've turned to a discussion of Polygamy.
Generally, polygamy is usually illegal enough that the actual charge is bigamy, merely having -two- wives is enough to be breaking the law in many places to say nothing for having multiple wives. There are some branches of christianity and some middle eastern faiths that support the idea of polygamy, but require that the man be able to financially and emotionally support having multiple wives in order to be allowed to. There are even a few isolated places that practice polyandry, the state in which a woman has multiple husbands, though that is far less common. As to my opinion on the subject, I have always felt that I support absolutely anything that consenting, mentally stable adults would care to do. And if one thing that consenting, mentally stable adults want to do is enter into a polygamous relationship, by all means I support it completely. |

Its fine.
If everyone in the relationship knows that there is more than one spouse, and are happy with it, then its just fine. If one of the persons in the relationship have a slight problem with it, then they shouldn't be married. If one of the persons in the relationship arn't ok with it, then there is something seriously wrong. If people are happy, and arnt' hurting each other, me, other people, then it's fine by me. |

Yeah, as jecht said it's pretty much determined by how you were raised. Christians are taught that love is a thing between one man and one woman, while Muslim men are allowed to have up to four wives (but he must love them all equally).
Personally, however, I wouldn't want to share someone that I was in love with. (in before someone makes a misinformed Mormon reference) |

I'm pretty much against polygamy, I think marrige should really be kept between two that have deep feelings for each other and have decided to want to be together until they are naturally seperated. The only way I'd really agree on polygamy if there were multiple women who I all loved pretty equal and couldn't decide who to be with.

Polygamy was brought up in the Mormon religion way back when as a way for the sisters of the church to be able to be financially and emotionally stable when their husbands died during their trek through the harsh conditions and there was some war they got brought into that i forget about. Anyway, bishops would actually ask a man in the ward to marry a widow or single woman to help her out when the Mormon church grew scarce in numbers. Since then it has been become an ancient practice seeing as how the church is probably not going to die out in numbers anytime soon.
So from a religious standpoint i could see how it would be acceptable seeing as how they are were raised to believe in it. However, from the other side of the coin, i dont see how its necessary. I will still stick with my original statement which was that i dont support it, but i could understand how it might be something to consider being legal. |

Im sure it would be easy to manipulate the government with having multiple marraiges. Insurance, taxes, etc...more then one wife could alter these things rather drastically. I could see why it would be illegal, but morally speaking I think its just intolerant to not allow anyone to participate in such.

In SOme countries it is Leagal..
But I don't really like that i would have to share my love of my life. Sounds selfish? but I think if you love of your life was truly comitted then he would stick to one person ![]()
