I'll use good grammar for the sake of getting people to read it. However, normally I use bad grammar all the time. It's probably evident right now. Anyways...
What is with this site's obsession with grammar? You must face reality that the internet generation is going to become a bit lazy and have bad grammar but it's the fact that you can understand them that makes all the difference. If you cannot understand the person that is speaking because of it, then that is a different story. I just wish all of you people who always tell people to use good grammar would shut up, because no matter how many times you tell a person to do it, they aren't going to. It's a pointless cause. Enough said. |

When I was in a chat room with a girl I knew in real life, she told me to use grammar, and I started doing so. However, I do admit that most people probably won't change, but I'll still tell people that if their grammar is so bad that I can't understand.

Yeah that is an exception to the thread. If someone's grammar is so bad you cannot understand, then it's alright to tell them to use better grammar.

Same with me. I used to have horrible grammar. Until someone told me off about it. So I used it just to prove them that I COULD use proper grammar. I've been using it ever since... Even on MSN. And it's been over a year. Now one of my pet peeves is bad grammar. Although I don't mention it to people when I'm annoyed by how they type. I hate it when people go overboard to the point where I can barely understand them. -End of long pointless post-

I don't use grammar half as well as I know how to, I just do it how I want to do it. A perfect example of this is what Squeek said with things ending in quotation marks at the end of a sentence.
Proper I don't consider this very "fun." Improper I don't consider this very "fun". Really, the people are bothering you because the grammar you're using is likely so far below proper that it's hard to tolerate. |

I guess you can try to correct the grammar, but it's a pointless effort. And "it's not FFR's job to police other forums." That would have been a smart response if i wasn't using it as an example of the internet generation's bad grammar.

couldn't care less*
=x I don't care if it's perfect or not. I care that you try. This is a forum. It's more understandable in a chat room (though still retarded). However, you have pretty much as much time as you could possibly need in order to write your post. You could post it a half an hour late or a few hours late. You could post it a day late. That's the nature of forums. Threads live and die over a series of days, even weeks. That said, there's no excuse for poor grammar / spelling. You have all the time in the world to make your post readable. I and most of the other regulars here try to help the mistaken fools who think dat removn letrz n st is 2 cool 2 4get and savs tiem see that it's not saving time and it'll help you in the long run. You're going to have to write like this for school, so why not learn how on a forum or two? That way you won't be ignored by people who can't decipher your chicken scratch. |

I consider the English language (and most other languages) an intricate, arbitrarily productive, but structured formal system. Incorrect (or incoherent) grammar strikes me as a deplorable loss of meaning and rigor. It's not a matter of propriety or manners. It's not a matter of whether others can understand you. It's a matter of how clear you are making your statements and/or questions. It's a matter of being neat in conveying meaning. Bad grammar is a sign of sloppy thinking, whether in spoken, written, or typed form.

I always use the best grammar I can, not because I want to, but because I have to, I have OCD and it sucks. I'm constantly re-reading what I've only just typed and all the people I talk to say I take too long to type, and then they say I make everything too good. It's an annoying cycle..
P.S. I'm not that great at grammar and spelling but I still have to try my best, even if it's not great.

I actually enjoy typing properly. FFR improved my vocabulary and overall writing ability. I don't really enjoy enforcing correct grammar upon people, but I don't mind that the site enforces it.
