Default Tolerating Uncertainty

It's one of the many components of Critical Thinking that most people here fail to grasp.

As a critical thinker, one must always be aware of the limitations of one's reasoning. You don't know everything. You can't think perfectly. As such, your conclusions are never definite. Even when you have evidence, you may not be able to draw a conclusion at all.

The ability to tolerate uncertainty is the willingness to admit that you don't have enough information for an answer. It's the capability to resist making snap judgments and siding on one side or another on a given issue. It's the courage to say,

"I don't know."

Think about it.

I'm gonna take a scientific approach to this: That's why we have theories. They're not actual conclusions, but a series of tests that came to one solution in the end. You can't draw up an untestable hypothesis. You just can't. Certainty and the proof to back that assumption is crucial to our ever-expanding knowledge.

We continue to discover more things as we progress further into the cyber age. And we advance further not only in technology, but in the span of knowledge that is being lended to us by our teachers or professors or parents or whoever is there to teach you. No, we don't know everything and haven't come close to knowing everything, but it's also a requirement to not let ideas go to waste (Mendel). Newton never failed 99 times, but instead, found 99 materials that don't work. It's never a negative to state one's opinion in any said matter or to simply guesswith a sense of certainty. Certainty, in conclusion, is a very necessary component to expanding knowledge to prevent uncertainty.
