Default For those of you who are good at math

i recently got a speeding ticket, and im about to go to court to fight it, the officer wasnt using radar or a laser, he only judged my speed by eye, so here are my facts....

car model: 1994 VW Jetta
0-60: 10.1 seconds
quarter mile: 17.6 seconds (a quarter mile is 1320ft)

From H street to the L street stop sign is ~1200ft,
The officers siren, went on at ~750 ft (pulled over immediately)
there is also a 4% downward slope thats ~300ft long
4% grade slope adds 2 mph/s to my acceleration

i need to know my approximate top speed from the beginning of H street
to about 750 ft, if you need any other information to figure this out ask meh!!
he said i was doing 65, but i really dont think i was =P any help would be great, cause math is my worst subject =/

and heres a map if it will help http://img206.imageshack.us/img206/9619/mapjj8.jpg

If he judged your speed by eye then theres no way that ticket is going to hold up. he's going to have a hell of a time convincing a judge that he can tell what speed you're going by eye, and actually write you a ticket for it.

Absolute truth. If the officer told you he didn't have a radar, you didn't have to accept the ticket.

Way too many unknowns to figure this out.

He doesn't have any evidence to support the fact you were speeding though so I don't see what the problem is. XD

How fast were YOU going, and what is the speed limit on the road? The have to allow a few miles over anyways.

Like everyone is saying, if he didn't get you on the radar, you'll be fine.

ya, so thats why i wanted to know my exact top speed for that section, so if the ticket still does hold up, i can at the very least prove the cop wrong and make him feel like an idot lol

As reach said, your numbers lead to an unsolvable problem with the information given. When I started trying to solve, I decided that your acceleration from 0-60 in 10.1s could no way have been a constant acceleration, so I don't know what the acceration would even be. There are probably more problems like this in trying so solve that, so no one is going to. If someone comes up with an answer based off of your information, it's probably wrong.

Basically, you really need to just argue that how fast it looks like you are going to a cop is not accurate. However, if you were going like 45 in a 25, that's not good, because I doubt you could get anyone to believe that the cop's estimate would be off by near that much.

where does the downward slope begin?

EDIT: If I did my math right, your speed was 60mph w/ the 4% downward slope. Still speeding but slower than what the cop thought.
What do I get as an award for doing all this f*cking math for you when I could've been sleeping?

EDIT: I missed a step. You were probably going 55.8mph with the slope.

Wow. I certainly WISH this ticket would stand. Doing 50 in a 20 is just retarded.

I agree. Driving like a stupid shithead is dumb as hell, and it doesn't impress anyone aside from stupid shitheads. I would say "it's your decision," but it puts random people in mortal danger on a regular basis.

Around 54-57 mph with the slope. He still cant judge if you are speeding or not.
