Default A story creating game, if you will.

Okay, so I just read the thread by Mal about getting a creative writing/arts forum going, and I gotta say that's a pretty sweet idea. I'd love a spot to go for criticism and ideas about my work, and others' works as well.

So on the topic of writing, I propose this idea, you know, to get the wheels rolling.

Why not get as many people who want to together, and write a story. There would be stipulations though. Here's what I suggest:

- The story, no matter how many people are writing it, must always flow together well, and move forward. This means that no one can just add in "And then X jumps off a cliff and dies. The end"

- Only one person can write at a time. This means that once we get a number of people together, we'll assign a certain order in which people are allowed to add to the story. I believe this will keep you thinking ahead, and more openly about what could possibly happen next. So if we had four people writing for it, it would look something like this:

Person 1 adds 2 paragraphs
Person 2 Adds 6 paragraphs
Person 3 Adds 3 paragraphs
Person 4 adds 11 paragraphs
Person 1 adds 7 paragraphs
etc...

Which brings me to my next point.

- Each person must add AT LEAST TWO PARAGRAPHS. Writing any less than this would be pointless. I know two paragraphs seems like a small amount, but the reason I say this, is so that we can keep this thing moving along nicely. Nothing is worse than having to wait more than a day for the other writers to get their stuff together.

- Lastly, to keep everyone at least SOMEWHAT thinking alike, I suggest we have themes/topics to help keep us on track. I think this will at least give everyone some ideas of where to go with the story, and will help everyone understand where the other writers are coming from. I think we should have a list of five to seven topics, and the story shouldn't really consist of more than three or four of them.

So there you have it, my little writing game. I think this could be a wonderful opportunity to see some of the different writing styles and talents of the ffr goers, as well as be a ton of fun. Also, I do think there should be a few moderators of this game who volunteer to edit each submission for grammar and spelling, just so that anyone who wishes to read it, can make sense of it. I know there are a lot of people out there with amazing ideas, and not so amazing spelling or grammer. This game shouldn't be limited to those who know how to spell or use grammar correctly. Anyways, Once we have a few people willing to get on it, We can decide on some themes.

Just a quick thought on the theme selection...

I think each of the people writing should choose both a "time/place/job/personality" and something they think would be a good theme, to think of this, think about something you'd see as the title of an essay.

Some good examples would be:

The Dreamscape
The Moral Majority
Silent Treatment
Elementary Education

Some bad examples are:

Tom Brokaw
The bar down the street
Waitress

Understand?

The themes/topics can be taken any way the author sees fit. Nothing wrong with keeping the possibilities open, right?

So yeah, that's it. Hopefully some people will want in on this adventure.

This sir is what a forum RPG is.

I like the idea, yet my writing skills are horrible. Now if it was a game, I would love to play.

EDIT: I take that back, this isn't an RPG. I missread what you were saying. I like the idea.

You don't NEED to have amazing writing skills, just some cool ideas. That's where the editors will come into play. They'll make your nonsense make sense!

I can try going for this. But shouldn't it be moved to the Games Forum?

Well, I guess it COULD be moved there... but I'd like to keep it within the confines of people who visit the CT forum. I know that sounds like i'm limiting this to certain people, but I just think that it will help ween out the people who're going to ruin it for others by not making a serious effort at it.

Okay, so far, it's Chromer and I.

Any other takers?

Okay, I think we should do a preliminary run with just the .... 7 of us. Sound good?

The list of people writing are:

xObserveRx
Chromer
Skikamukazi
GuidoHunter
psychic25
The Q
Tokzic

Now we need to pick themes, and editors to clean up anyone elses grammatical errors. Volunteers? I can personally say I'd be willing to edit, so if we could get one or two more editors, we'd be ready to go... after picking themes of course.

Now here's what I suggest we do for themes.

I say each of us choose two themes. We submit all to either myself or whoever wants to help me organize this, and we'll draw three of those from a hat. After that, we'll place the names of the people in the event into the hat, and draw the order of which we'll be writing.

Also, on a side note, I say we challenge ourselves. Maybe not so much at first, but once we get the hang of it, i think we should limit how long the story goes on for. For now I'd suggest that we each get... oh, i dunno... 5 to 7 entries? or do you guys think that is too many? There's seven of us, so maybe we should each get 3? ... i dunno 3 seems to be cutting it close... your guys thoughts?

Well, I used to do online Yahoo! RP because I'm a nerd like that. I had an awesome character who used to carouse through taverns, ravaged all the ladies and frequently wound up half drunk in an alley with a broken lute around his neck. If we can do anything involving him, I'd be overjoyed.

I'd also like to do something with more of a romantic flare rather than a playful one. Perhaps the mid 1800s and two young couples begin courting in London and things begin to get mixed up. Sort of A Midsummer Night's Dream sort of thing.

And I'd be a horrible editor, so I'll just write.

Alright, I think you guys are misunderstanding the "Theme/topic" thing. So I'll try to explain it better.

let's say for example, we have 3 people and we end up picking a theme. The theme is Moral Majority. Here's what I mean by interpreting it in any way you choose.

Person A - With a theme being "Moral Majority" I'll incorporate this into the story by making a certain club or group of people relating to a main charater or characters. This "Moral Majority" of the group is forcing the characters into a situation they don't want to be in. Manipulation, extortion, blackmail etc...

Person B - With a theme being "Moral Majority" I think i'll make something about someone committing a crime that the "Moral Majority" agrees is either borderline or very bad. The charater committing this crime will face many different situations in which other characters will tell him/her that the crime committed was something that "Society" or the "Moral Majority" would agree wasn't/was right.

Person C - With a theme being "Moral Majority" I think i'll use some higher government people as characters. They'll manipulate what "The Moral Majority" thinks is right with the country. Things will come up making these characters possibly change their ideals/morals to shape a new country/regime.

Now do you guys understand what i'm talking about? It's more of just thinking of an idea that somehow involves this "greater concept".

I hope that cleared it up. We need to pick some themes/topics guys! :P

"Why People Live Immorally" is my number one choice. The other you guys will have to word, but I'm sticking with wanting the second to relate to romance. I'm girly like that.
