Yeah, I was wondering the exact same thing. I know they DO have wireless gamecube controllers out, but I'm not sure how well they work with the Wii... has anyone tested?

But you're right, it does seem likely they'll release a "Classic GC" controller.

The Wavebird (Nintendo's wireless radio-controlled GCN controller) works flawlessly with the Wii for GameCube games. I heard that Nintendo will be releasing another Wavebird-style controller that's a bit lighter and less bulky, but I really have no solid confirmation on that. I heard it from an EB manager on the Wii launch day, but I'm still skeptical, as I haven't heard it elsewhere.

And yes, SSBB will most definitely use the GameCube controller. The reasoning, as I've said time and time again, is not alienate players already familiar with the controls from SSBM. Plus, testing with the Wiimote revealed that motion control just got in the way of the gameplay.

Sounds good. Maybe I'll just get a "classic" controller and make due with that and a wiimote, until something like what you described comes along.

What about alienating me I'm very familiar with the N64 version and I hardly know my way around Melee at all.

Duh. What kind of 2D fighter would work very well with motion sensing like that?

Afro, the GCN controller would be cheaper and more efficient. The Classic Controller plugs into the Wii Remote. That means the Wii Remote has to be on for it to work, meaning it's sucking up batteries. The Gamecube controller just plugs into the top.

Just wait until stuff comes out for confirmation or something. I do know that VC games work with the Gamecube Controller, so there's another reason to get it.

Edit to prevent doublepost: So I beat Elebits while I was on vacation. Incredibly awesome game. Still haven't even come close to 100%ing it. I don't even think it's possible to do so.

Currently working on the most obvious checkpoints toward completion: Pink elebits. Then I'll try to complete all of the challenges. Then S-ranks on everything.

This could be awhile.

Honestly, I'm not a huge fan of the Gamecube controller, and as such, I would rather not put money out for one unless I'm sure that it's as good as they get. I would much rather have a Wii controller that acts like a GC controller than simply a GC controller, even if it works for both.

As for batteries: they're not a problem. I don't plan on playing for 10 hours per day, so batteries should last me a while anyway. And on top of that, I have a ton of batteries of all kinds just sitting in a cupboard collecting dust.

ps I'd very much rather play on a cross between a dual shock and a SNES controller than GC, I'm sure.

I'm not sure if anybody has had this problem yet, but when I was playing Madden '07 tonight, I kept getting this pop-up saying "Warning. Communications with the Wii Remote have been interrupeted"

It popped up every time I snapped the ball. I'll wait and see if it's like that when I wake up, but I can't believe I'm having problems with the controller already. I tired resetting it too, but that didn't seem to help either. = /

Yeah...I tried it right after I posted. I can't believe that the batteries were almost dead. I haven't even had the Wii for a week, and I've played an average of an hour a day. I hope it was just the batteries.

You get that message on battery death or 10-minute idling. Either way, it's because the Wiimote is off. Idling for ten minutes turns it off automatically.

I told you the thing is a battery sucker. Invest in rechargeables. One pair lasted me an entire family vacation with over ten hours a day for three days, the day before with six hours (the day I got Trauma Center), and every day after until today.

Tell me that doesn't look like a third party controller... I would say it's just a third party Gamecube controller and the website has it listed incorrectly.[/edit]

Oh and read this:

Speculation, obviously, but it sounds pretty good to me regardless.

Good point. Although, I've been a loyal customer to the Gameplay website for a good couple of years. I have had to buy another Gamecube controller once before and I had never seen that controller on there. Only after the Wii stuff started coming on. Plus it's not in the Gamecube section as well and Gameplay aren't stupid. It does look like a third party Gamecube contoller your right. I don't think it is though.

Edit: http://shop.gameplay.co.uk/webstore/...ch_sports_pack lol.

That controller does look third-party at first. What is that big black scab in the middle? But, now that I think about it, it looks like what I would call a transition controller. It works well on both systems, but the new button placement and color give it a Wii feel. Nice.

...

The button positioning is the same. Proportions might be slightly different, but that is common among 3rd party controllers.

The colors? They're the standard colors for a Gamecube controller, except for the main casing being an ununsual color. Notice how the Wiimote/classic controller lacks bright color at all, even in the buttons? Yeah.

Oh and the "black scab"? It probably has to do with those extraneous two buttons which are probably "slow motion" and "autofire". Additionally, that little thing which appears to be a LED there is probably tied into one of those common-in-3rd-party-controllers-yet-never-in-1st-party-controllers features as well.

ps

Seriously... the only color that can give something a "Wii feel" would be to be solid white, with possibly some colored LEDs to indicate things like power.

EDIT: wtf the cord for the classic comes out of the bottom? That's lame.

EDIT again: oh hey look what I stumbled across...

They should do that.

By button placement, I was referring to the extra Z button and the extra two in the middle, which are probably +and -. Home is probably the main button replacing start/pause.

The white is what I was referring to as the "Wii look," so to speak.

And, look again. doesn't the image from IGN look somewhat similar to the other controller, if you were to cut out the extra Wiimote parts at the top?

The IGN image I posted was a mockup because for a while Nintendo was talking about a sort of sleeve peripheral that would be used to play games like Super Smash Bros. Brawl that would feel like a gamecube controller. From the sounds of it though, Nintendo wants people to use Gamecube controllers for it and won't be putting anything like that out.

Sadly I don't play the mini-games that often.

I generally only play them with friends.

AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH

Monkey Ball is so frustrating. The most annoying thing about the game by far is the way it shows replays of you falling off loads. It's like yea, get on with it, I DON'T CARE. I get the feeling the games going,

"Lol, You fell off. look I'll show you. I don't know whether you noticed what happened there, you fell off. lol You feel off. Look. That's you falling. LOOK! Your falling. Lmao. Let me show you what happened. you fell off!.

Oh and I know you can skip the replay but even then I get the feeling the games going,

"LOOK AT THE REPLAY OF YOU FALL..(pressed A button).....DAMMIT!"

Squeek - I love the minigames. I was quite down about Monkey Target as it feels really gimped like. However I found happiness again in the form of paraglideing. It's like they took the concept of monkey target and split certain aspects of it into bits and made games out of them.
