![]() I mainly want to focus this thread on my experience in the Gamewhore Competition. That was the main reason why I did this – I wanted firsthand experience on a 24 hour day dedicated to just getting grandtotal, since I saw plenty of other players do it. Originally my focus was just 1.5 billion back in the day because VS Boss Battle wasn’t ingame at the time, so I would need to whore Lolo which not only is more inefficient, but also more draining. Luckily, VS Boss Battle is a lighter file that I could play and not have to mash. 1.6 billion was feasible in this case. Shoutouts - My dorm roommate for getting my headphones to work on his laptop. I spent over 5 minutes trying to get them to work on mine and still nothing, I was livid that over 5 minutes worth of grandtotal was wasted and the situation still wasn’t resolved. My roommate also helped with heating up my lunch and allowing me to use his laptop for his iTunes playlist and my YouTube stuff since the headphones worked on his laptop. He basically saved me a good amount of time. - My dorm floor neighbors for allowing me to borrow their microwave for the day. My room does not have a microwave, and I didn’t want to bother anyone about using their microwave (that would have also been worse for time). - My university’s dining hall for its great food. I had a chicken caesar wrap, two vegetable enchiladas with some small macaroni, a container of chicken soup, and half a container of bean soup. - j-rodd123 and awein999 for short Skype chats during the 24 hour period. Awein and I had discussions about the competition before it happened, and gave his input on his experience with 1 billion in a day. Preparation - Three hours of sleep (8:30 PM EST to 11:30 PM EST) - Food. Like I said, I had a chicken caesar wrap, two vegetable enchiladas with some small macaroni, a container of chicken soup, and half a container of bean soup. I also had a container of skim milk and half a gallon of water. The banana I had was old and mushy so I didn’t eat it, and the lemonade I had expired. - Microwave from my dorm floor neighbors. - Music playlists. - Three standalone players. Legacy was lagging the least, so I had 3 legacy engines open all with VS Boss Battle on them. Two standalone players had my usual setup, the third one had m,./ for quadmashing. The two engines with my setup were placed in a way that I could hover my cursor over the try again button on the one next to it so I could immediately click the button when the file ended. - Autofail at 1 miss, three standalone players with an FFR engine with the same song. What was it like? The competition technically started at 1:00 AM for me because I’m in EST. I woke up at 11:30 PM, getting 3 hours of sleep since I went to bed at 8:30 PM. I got over 7 hours of sleep on Friday which was when my second Calculus Exam was and my essay final draft due, and I’m glad I made that decision instead of less than 4 hours of sleep with 5 hours of studying (it wasn’t necessary, I only reviewed for 2-3 hours and I did well on it). I asked my dorm neighbors if I could borrow their microwave for the competition, and they allowed me to put it in my room. I took a shower and had half my container of chicken soup. Then it was 1 AM EST and I started whoring VS Boss Battle. -Two hours in I had the thoughts about stopping in mind. An important time period of the 24 hour whoring day is the first few hours, because that’s when the “should I stop” thoughts are occurring the most. 5 AM (4 hours in) I was still having these thoughts. However, this is a once-in-a-lifetime thing that I always wanted to experience, and with VS Boss Battle it would be much better than back in the day without that file. Early in the 24 hour period there were obstacles. For instance: [11/17/2012 1:31:05 AM] Andrew WEINstock: I gave up, you have my full support! [11/17/2012 2:39:36 AM] Dossar: Fuck LIVID [11/17/2012 2:39:43 AM] Dossar: Tried getting headphones to work for over 5 minutes, nothing [11/17/2012 2:39:51 AM] Dossar: The ONE TIME I need them, they don't fuck work [11/17/2012 3:11:58 AM] Dossar: Why the fuck is my cpu usage 100% [11/17/2012 3:12:22 AM] Andrew WEINstock: log off skype? get off any vc? [11/17/2012 3:24:14 AM] Dossar: mscorsvw.exe and MRT.exe bullshit [11/17/2012 3:26:16 AM] Dossar: Look those up and tell me how to kill them [11/17/2012 3:59:25 AM] Dossar: Every 10 minutes a restart now window pops up [11/17/2012 3:59:27 AM] Dossar: Fucking hell Yes, it’s aggravating when Murphy’s Law comes to kick you in the ass. Anyways, I tried splitting up my meals along the way. It was planned to have one every 4 hours. I had my chicken ceasar wrap pretty early, I think it was 4 AM. At 8 AM I had one vegetable enchilada. Foxfire scared me with his endless mashing so I waited until 1 PM for finishing my second enchilada and macaroni. At around 4 PM I had bean soup. Then at 7 PM I had the last half of remaining chicken soup. After this, I was out of food – I still had plenty of water and milk though. It’s also important to mention that when I ate I mashed VS Boss Battle. One hand was used for eating/using eating utensils, the other for quadmashing. Six hours in I felt really tired. I wound up splashing water on my face and doing “mashing minutes” (basically closing my eyes while mashing VS Boss Battle at the same time since I was staring at the screen for too long). I felt more awake in the afternoon – at that time, all the “quitting” thoughts were gone and I kept the mashing minutes thing in mind. Water and food were also very important for “feeling awake”. When I ate and drank water, I could notice the difference. The entire time I had music playing. Without the music, this whoring session would not have been possible. The music not only helped with keeping me awake, but also made me have something else to concentrate on while playing VS Boss Battle. Rather than always thinking about the file on my laptop screen, I paid attention to lyrics in the song, or whatever else I could think of. If I had to think about the file for all those 24 hours, I would’ve gone insane near the beginning. Foxfire667 had me scared with his goddamn endless mashing, jesus christ. The ONLY way you can counter endless mashing on the same file is legitimately playing that same file endlessly. It only required me to use the bathroom to take a dump for him to get 8 million points closer to me. In terms of breaks, I had no planned breaks. The only “breaks” I had were getting up to heat up food, use the bathroom and splash water on my face, and drink water. I mashed during my meals, although it’s inefficient on my laptop because sometimes my fingers wouldn’t all hit quads so if a hand was hit I’d fail out. It also didn’t help that VS Boss Battle was giving me a lot of misses along the way so I couldn’t get the ideal 863 combo score – this was worst when I broke 1.4 billion, I kept failing before 300 combo because of some random miss (remember autofail 1 miss). It was miserable after 1.4 billion because of all the missing. My point gain was slowing down and there was nothing I could do about it. In terms of the file VS Boss Battle, yes I did have some bad habits on it but the miss crap was just bullshit. I will admit after playing it for so long I saw how bad the patterns are in that file as well. They are REALLY bad, especially at the end. I was like “what the hell the movements you make in these transitions”. When you’re playing a file for that long, these transitions stand out much more. It’s one thing to have some bad habits, but totally another when you’re getting a bunch of misses out of the ass. According to this post, I beat Adamaja’s score with just a tiny bit less than 2 hours remaining. Since I only had 90 million left to get in 120 minutes, I knew 1.6 billion was within reach. Since I didn’t want to mash VS Boss Battle for 90 million points, I wound up mashing some RATO, playing Lolo a few times, then got back to a few mashing VS Boss Battle plays, and finished with Lolo. Remember at 1.4 billion VS Boss Battle was vomiting a bunch of misses for me so I had to mash it in these remaining 90 million points if I wanted to play it. My point gain slowed down pretty bad at the end due to the massive VS Boss Battle missing problem, but I still got 1.6 billion with 30 minutes left to spare. I stopped after reaching 1.6 billion. I was mentally exhausted, but physically it wasn’t so bad. The worst pain in my wrists were at about I think 3-4 PM Server Time, that was when my wrists had a slight sharp pain, but nothing too bad. When this happened I drank more water, washed my face with water again, and extended my fingers. My ring fingers were the ones hurting the most (the ones I don’t use). Any of you who have seen my FFR/Stepmania videos, you will notice that I quickly extend my ring finger. However since I had basically no breaks here, and that extending during the file was ineffective, my ring fingers wound up hurting a lot. I’d have to take around 30 seconds to extend my fingers manually with my other hand. What advice do you have for anyone who is considering doing this? If you really want my honest opinion, don’t attempt a 24 hour whoring day. Anyone who quits out quickly, I understand and respect their decision. For me it was mainly about the firsthand experience. But if you really want to do this, here are some things I suggest: - Keep nutrition in mind. Have lots of water. Stock up on food, and mix vegetables/etc. in there too. - Get *some* sleep before it. It’s not entirely necessary to have 8 hours of sleep before it. I got 3 hours of sleep before it happened. But it’s a good thing to sleep the day before as well – this is another reason why I was able to run off of 3 hours of sleep, the day before I got more than 7 hours. - Have music playlists or something else to do. I had music playing the entire time. If you’re going to mash a file, find something else to do, maybe watching a movie or whatever. When I was mashing at the end for my remaining points, I freaking hated it. I was talking out loud and even swearing when I was mashing VS Boss Battle – I wasn’t doing anything else but looking at the screen with the mashing. - Close your eyes and look away from the screen every now and then so you don’t hallucinate. For example, samurai7694 told me the game screen was starting to appear purple or something when he was doing the 1 billion challenge. This did not happen to me. I had my “mashing minutes” where I closed my eyes. - Wash your face, wash your hands with warm water and extend your fingers. When I stopped after my wrists started having a slight pain and I washed my hands and drank water, 5 minutes had passed and I felt better again.

I'm glad you made this thread, I was actually quite interested in how you decided to take on the game-whore challenge and if your methods were any similar to mine.
Even though you did end up mashing a bit more than I originally thought, your PA skills were beyond phenomenal for the contest, and really was the only way anyone could have possibly pulled ahead from my overkill 24 hour mashing of doom. I'll reiterate what I said in the game whore thread, and say that I couldn't have lost to a better machine than you dude. It may have been hell, but it was an awesome experience to try and play a game like this for 24 whole hours in a row. PS: Wish I thought to close my eyes while mashing the song. As the hours drew nearer I was beginning to hallucinate when I was listening to music and staring at the game screen...colors started to change and different sections seemed to take on different shapes. It was really weird, but at the very least it didn't hinder mashing.

There was a part of me that actually wanted to do this with legitimate planning, but I don't know if I ever want to point-whore again. Then again, I got 650m doing -nothing- but playing VS Boss Battle (i.e. not watching anything else/listening to anything else), which is the same reason why I had an obscenely high perfect percentage compared to everyone else in the top 10, haha.
When I told Rob that I did the gamewhoring just listening to VS Boss Battle over and over again, he thought I was insane, lol. I have a feeling that if I got adequate sleep, created a music playlist, and had some food/drinks ready, I'd probably crack the 1.5 billion point barrier. The question becomes whether or not I actually want to try and do this "correctly", haha. In any event, congratulations on your awesome gamewhoring -- breaking the all-time record without Vrofl on your first attempt at a point-gaining competition is incredible for sure. |

Thanks man, it really was like an unrealistic goal of mine just not only was achieved, but with almost a WHOLE EXTRA HOUR to continue dominating it. In terms of FFR, this is probably the most impressive thing I've done here. Wish I could have made it to the 1.6 bill club with you, but I was unfortunately a hair under 30m away from that. Oh well, the tag team dethroning of Adamaja456 in itself was one hell of an achievement, and I'm still shocked I pulled it off!

I feel like a dumbfuck now. I didn't think of the playlist idea when I was whoring Operation Evolution on TS last December. I listened to that song over 120 times.
Also, take a long break from SM/FFR-- maybe just a week or two. Your wrists sound like mine just before I had to stop. |

Honestly, Having a playlist handy is definitely a good idea... I cant even listen to a Dimrain47 song anymore because of that event.

Maybe I'll try it someday. Couldn't really do it that specific day because I had music lessons and homework.
