Was trying to see how long I could go being uninformed of who the president was. Unfortunately I watched southpark without thinking.

Pretty funny episode. This thread got really long...

So what do you guys think of the Congress still being split? The Democrats and Republicans will have to cooperate sooner or later, or else not much will get done. How do you think they can reconcile their differences? (I'm guessing some might say "they won't")

edit: one thing to consider is that the Republicans are pressured to cooperate with the Democrats if they ever hope to gain popular vote amongst minorities, women, and children (the majority of who voted for Obama). As you may have seen in the election, the Republicans got nearly 60% of the white demographic's votes, the most in recent memory since Reagan. And they still lost. That might allude a scenario in which the Republicans (House of Rep.) can no longer constantly oppose propositions from Democrats (Senate). The Republicans are not doing themselves any favor by retaining their stubborn stance. The demographics are changing, and the original majority of whites are shrinking.

I don't see the obstructionism ending anytime soon, but I also don't think it will matter as much in the long run.

A lot of this is tied into the future of the GOP and how it chooses to mold itself going forward.

is it too much to hope that congress actually does get nothing done? 99% of the time government actually does something, it's horrendous. gridlock for eternity please. *slight exaggeration*
