Easy mistake considering there's nothing behind it to show you it's transparent. I'll fix that.

2Cent comments hope it helps

Colours of the display seems oversaturated and opaque; might want to increase the transparency slightly to show its not just "photoshopped on" etc. I assume its a matt finish texture on the transparent parts?

The "tap" logo on the top left seems out of place; it doesn't seem to flow with the rest of the markings/letterings on the card. Maybe a redesign of that or is it a generic logo?

A view of the back of the card would be nice too

Maybe some slight pixelation of the display for realism sake (this is notable on the overdefined arrows)? Assuming the resolution of the display is not -that- high

The colors are way oversaturated simply for exaggerated effect, but you're right, it's probably a bit TOO exaggerated. The material of the screen is pretty much what you would find in today's transparent OLED displays, it's a slightly tinted, and slightly reflective plastic sheet.

The "tap" logo is MasterCard's official Paypass logo, so I don't know if I should change it.

I haven't actually added anything to the back of the card yet, will do that tomorrow, although I'm not entirely sure what to put back there, won't really need a mag strip, maybe just put a bunch of disclaimer text on the back?

I really like the idea of pixelating the screen a bit, just so it's slightly noticeable. Add that tomorrow too.

LG I officially dub you the person who gives the most useful critiques ever.

We already have tv-technology thin enough to fit inside a thick paper, so both the card and tablet is most plausible..

rendered out a different shot at the final resolution for the contest 2560x1600.

This doesn't have a bunch of post-work done to it yet, so the reflections and stuff are off and look bad...but it shows the transparency of the card really well.

**This newest image is a nearly final shot. I need to add some text explaining features, and an LCD effect. Any last minute suggestions or comments?

All I got basically is that the "credit card" style text is kinda blehh, and too sharp around the edges. If you could fillet/round the edges on those it would look tons more like how cards usually do, generally they have those trims almost melting into the rest of the card. If ya know what I mean. Otherwise looks sweet

EDIT: nvm didn't read about the LCD effect changes you'll render in a later pic, but I'll still leave these comments here anyway

With regards to final pic, and maybe some brainstorming

-The actual touch display seems too...recessed? Like its unrealistically thin. Idk personally I prefer the idea of it being flush with the bezel

-I mentioned the "pixelated" display finish as to give a sense of the product being a possible implementation in the near future. The display seems unrealistically high resolution atm, but then again its just a concept so let that slide

-The embossed text, they are overly well defined for that scale. Actual credit cards nowadays have them a little rounded on the edges etc if I'm not wrong

Give the design a sense of scale

-Is the top left hole a LED?

-How is the device powered?

-I still personally feel that the arrow symbol on the display seems out of place, maybe keep it flat to flow with the rest of the display design

-Face colours still feel too oversaturated imo; its like its whited out instead of feeling translucent. I'm thinking of something closer a quartz-esque (passive) display, due to the size of such a card I doubt you could cram in a full active-lighted display. Semi-active?

-From a manufacturing point of view, how is it made? Might there any seamlines around the edges?

It helps if you can forward the idea that this is a feasible and realistic concept to actually come true, rather than being merely a fantasy concept

Would like to see the final render

This is what we have in today's technology:

As you can see, it actually is a pretty damn high resolution display. I would think resolution would only get better over time as well. My letters DEFINITELY need to be rounded out, thanks to both of you for pointing that out.

Device could be powered a number of ways, but I heard of a recent invention, it's a paper battery that recharges itself from the moisture in the air, I'll go with that, otherwise it could simply be one of those wirelessly charging batteries which you can just set on a charge mat.

The display is actually as thin as today's flexible oled's @ .5mm

Throwing this in there

http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=_tF2GddZqkg
http://www.youtube.com/watch?feature...&v=Wgh6CM6D-hY

BTW the links are closed so you won't find it by searching..
And we all know the "foldable" screens already but the technology isn't remotely close to the same.

PS: I gave up on embedding video, couldn't find the emb links..

EDIT: Also static energy (generated from objects that generate static electricity/spelling) can recharge small batteries (such as small mp3s and so on) simply by the rocking of you walking, atleast theoretically, as during one day, wearing a wooden sweater and so on, you generate alot of it, technically they want something inside of say, your mp3, to work the same way.. I won't guess numbers and the link is closed but I'll find it after work

Here are the entries that have come in so far:

http://challenge.cgsociety.org/nvart...entries#jumpto

I don't expect any of the major contenders to surface until near the end of the competition, I likely won't submit all of my stuff until the day before they're due...but so far what I have is promising, comparatively.

Looks like so far the only real competition is that orange thing by stefgrafx. Your polyard is looking really good by the way.

Some of those things are just plain out stupid, lol.

Also, holograms already exist, so that guy can have GL with that. And LOL, "3D hologram", WHAT ELSE IS THERE?

xD

Yeah the current ones are pretty lame, it's all technology that has already been thought of and is in the works. Like I said though, the good ones won't be popping up until a few days before the deadline.

I finally got a good LCD effect onto the card, beveled the cardholders name, also added in a holographic Visa "dove" logo under the nVidia logo.

Work computer is doing that stupid thing that won't let me log in again to edit posts, so again, sorry for the double.

Now I need to find a really friggen hot chick to do some modeling work for me posing with a card.

Anyone else come up with any other ideas they think would make for a good futuristic device?

All I need now is that photo. I've arranged with a photographer and model for this weekend, so this should turn out pretty cool.
