Just thinking about something is going to make anything happen even if it is a million people. Nobody here is trying to lessen the severity of this horrible tragedy so don't try and make reach look like the bad guy here because of your misunderstanding.

your misunderstood, because last time i checked, praying is praying, not thinking. If you are/ and or a believer of Christ, you would know this. But i don't expect you to if you aren't.

and im not trying to make reach look like a bad guy, What i meant was don't underestimate the power of prayer.

It's not going to be another Chernobyl. Chernobyl wasn't a meltdown anyway, and it was the result of negligence.
Yes, the latest reports indicate that the concrete building housing the plant's number one reactor had collapsed but the metal reactor container inside was just dandy, so the chances of a catastrophic nuclear incident are still pretty low. After the explosion, most likely caused by hot fuel meeting water, radiation levels around the plant actually dropped? I have no idea why or what that means but w/e.

e: Although I'd like to point out the the hilarity in you and darkshark claiming an explosion/meltdown was impossible, followed immediately by the plant melting down and exploding

If there was a nuclear explosion, would that affect the whole planet?

No, nuclear power plants aren't that intense. I think it's a largely academic question anyway, as most people quoted and sourced seem pretty confident that the 34756394576235 failsafes in a modern power plant are sufficient to prevent the release of nuclear materials.

Jesus Christ, god forbid if anyone was actually religious. Get over yourselves. If someone wants to pray for someone/people/things let them. Don't get all pissy and say stuff like "that won't do anything." To that person it just might. To some of these Japanese people, it just might. Just because it doesn't affect you doesn't mean you have to bash the people that do. Get a real life seriously.

Yes, the generic response I anticipated after posting.

Also, Mans0n... Dude, you're an idiot. The power of prayer? Go donate some money... Get off your knees.

Actually I think I can say with pretty much absolute certainty that prayer won't do anything for 'some of these japanese people' but go nuts it's your time.

@dorby: okay how about "why not?" I dunno, it just seems like posting either personal anecdotes or news updates seems pretty reasonable in a disaster thread. If only people would read posts instead of popping in and OH NO JAPAN JUST GOT QUAKED DID U HEAR ((((( but what can you do

Guys shut up about prayers.

People bashing them, let them do their prayers and don't try to bash their beliefs that prayers aren't good because it goes to show how much good thought they have on these people to actually at least pray for their good health.

But for those praying, yes they really do appreciate your thoughts but don't ever use it as an excuse for DOING SOMETHING IN YOUR POWER. How about donations? How about actually trying to send some money and help to that place instead of thinking that simple prayer will do enough? Show more of your good thoughts and actually try to help as much as you can.

Recently heard that my friend's family was all alive and well. As well 4/39 kids I know in Japan have reported in, to my knowledge... :c

Hoping for the best.

You don't need to be religious (which i'm not) to give hope to people. Hope is hope... it helps people, you don't need to donate money to help, though it certainly will. :P

USA lost many lives on 9-11-01 and now Japan has lost more lives on 3-10-11. Add the 2 dates together and you get 12-21-12.

Dorby money doesn't mean shit. We could donate 12 million dollars to japan only a quarter or maybe even less of that would be used.. Just look at haiti. What the **** did money do for them? nothing. Quit being an immature, ignorant douche because your a godless heathen, you'd be crying all the way home if i talked bad about your beliefs, that is if your even smart to enough to understand any.

Meh probably wasted my time with this because your most likely some Scientologist sucking Mel Gibson's cock for cash.

That's because no one did their research in actually donating to the right institutions that's been inspected in their use of donations =/

no no no no no no stop being silly please

look

Haiti was ranked among the least favorable business place and the most corrupt in the world. Japan is a first world country which is far better equipped to handle a massive influx of donations. They're organized, efficient, and well trained. Japan =! Haiti
