Re: Macbook Pro
Yeah even the iMac flat keyboards are great.
But anyway, I've been studying film for 1.5 years now and I actually did a lot of work on a 13" Macbook Pro. Honestly speaking, its great for all kinds of media work. I managed to do a shitton on Photoshop work on the trackpad alone, before my teacher told me "get a mouse, dammit". As for Stepmania, I enjoy playing it there too. However, I tried not to be so intensive because my bro owned it and told me its not a rugged machine. I can't tell you exact details like the exact offset and all that, just that I enjoyed playing for it. Therefore, my conclusion is, buy it for media work and Stepmania will be the bonus. |

Re: Macbook Pro
Does anyone know if all versions of Stepmania are compatible on new Mac OS'? If not, does anyone know specifics? Buying a laptop probably before the end of the week and I really don't want a Windows 8 laptop.
Bumping this instead of making a new thread.

Re: Macbook Pro
Not all version are. Some of the older ones are PowerPC applications, which are no longer supported by mac. You will never be able to use these applications, unless you downgrade to Leopard OS. Pretty much any stepmania version before 2006 falls into this category, unless you decide to run Parallels or Bootcamp on your mac. Modern versions, such as Stepmania 5 work flawlessly (and that is what I use).

Re: Macbook Pro
So I went ahead and took the plunge. Not regretting it, really liking the change. Also stepmania does happen to run better on this than my desktop, which is pitiful considering the specs of my desktop.

Re: Macbook Pro
I think if I was going to spend obscene amounts of money on a laptop I would probably get this one instead. At least it is capable of high end gaming due to actually having a dedicated graphics card. Although there is a similarly thin MSI gaming laptop for cheaper that has equivalent hardware.

Re: Macbook Pro
I wouldn't get it either, but at least you can better justify the price since it is actually capable of things.
Kind of how I feel about apple. Although I wouldn't stand by any product simply because of its name brand. This one looks good though. Much much more powerful than a macbook and $500 dollars less.I'm not sure what the purpose of an expensive laptop is if it isn't going to have a dedicated graphics card for mobile gaming. http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16834152567 Just something about $2000 facebook machines is kind of stupid to me. Re: Macbook Pro
Part of the big selling point for the Macbook Pro for me is the awesome display and resolution. I'm not getting it for gaming at all, I'm getting it as a portable development/workstation (I do web development). It being able to run Stepmania is all I care about in terms of fun stuff and I probably wouldn't even be playing stepmania on it that much.
Also Thunderbolt is pretty cool, I know there are other machines out there with thunderbolt ports but yeah. I also don't want anything much bigger than 15" Also 8 hour battery life Last edited by Wafles; 06-16-2014 at 11:41 AM.. |

Re: Macbook Pro
I have a Macbook Pro Retina, and it is the best machine I have used, works epic for League, FFR, and everything else. Also runs extremely fast.

I actually prefer SM5 oddly enough

With that said, I'm not a fan of their high pricing generally speaking. Anything above the base model is literally disgusting in terms of price. There's no doubt that the hardware is outstanding in terms of design and overall quality, but the prices are unreal. I think the main reason I finally decided to just do it is because if I were to get a laptop running Windows, I would have ended up paying about the same amount (speaking in terms of what I paid for my refurbished model). I mainly wanted to get away from Windows. I used to be incredibly biased when it came to computers, brands, software, etc., but nowadays I'm pretty much open to trying anything and basing my opinions on personal experience. So far my experience with the Macbook is fantastic. It's fast, efficient and overall it feels tighter than Windows. With that said, I wouldn't replace my Windows desktop as my primary OS. There are just certain things about Windows that cater more to my interests than OSX.
