Possible FFR Rebirth Project?
(First of all, this isn't official or anything what-so-ever, I just want to hear what people have to say about this.)
Most, if not all of us here at FFR, love it here. Many of us also remember the days before the site collapsed, and how gigantic the active community was. I personally would hate to see this site falter to the ground, permanently. I want to see this site come back to life. My goal is to have everyone come up with ideas on how to bring back the community, old members and new members, and to bring this site back to it's former glory. I want to keep a list of everything that people come up with here. Mod/Admins, feel free to update it with ideas yourself, since I doubt I'll be able to keep up with people if this turns out as well as I hope. Everyone, please give me serious answers. I know it's hard for some of you, but at least try. (This list will have the idea, the person to thought it up, and the post #) THOUGHT LIST: Member/Post#/Idea Star Reaper #2 = "um we could put a commercial on tv have a few people who are really good with that type of thing do the video. Also a good way to do it is by making donations for the commercial." #31 = Honestly i think every post here should be used at some point in time. Also i think there should be a point system so as to perma ban anyone who goes over say 10 points per month. this idea would keep most people acting with some sort of restraint as to what kind of crap they can pull before paying for it. Raskanally #12 = "i personally believe we need more talk on a public forum board. we need someone to actively update a Facebook page. everyone and their mothers use facebook nowadays. what better way to get the word out? There is already one made, or i would make one. i post on my FB everytime i start to play for a while. You never know who might click the site link and sign-up. I would also like to know if we have full access to the php code for the forums. If so then i could make up some new icons for the forum board." TC_Halogen #13 = "ways to improve FFR: - get users off of the complacency pedestal that they're sitting on - get users to be less rude and more welcoming as a whole to everyone, rather than treating certain people like shit - I mean, look at yaboy; he gets targeted left and right for being a douchebag and acts like one because he knows that no one will ever take him seriously. i've never had issues with him on DF; he's a cool person, but that's just me - host more events that involve the community outside of the forums; advertise tournaments with larger prize pools on the front page to get more and more people involved - this will cause newer users to trickle into the forums and more involved with the community just so as long as people are willing to be nice to newer communities - break elitism in a lot of different things, such as segregation of skill levels (which was a good idea in theory, but worked out horribly with people trying to steal the spotlight at the top of the chain), simfiling, etc. - enforce rules as they're written, and follow through with them for everyone, regardless of who they are. There's a lot of people who think they can get away with acting like pricks to anyone/everyone and that will detract users from joining" DossarLX ODI #16 = "SMO has done a great job in welcoming new players and having a nice community as well as eliminating elitism. They could definitely help." igotrythum #35 = Since we're focusing on a renaissance in the community instead of just new bells and whistles to add to the site itself, I'm thinking that the FFR "sample pack" on Kongregate that went up before the big crash needs to be expanded and updated. Seeing as I've seen ads in brick-and-mortar game stores like GameStop for the site, this hardly seems like a bad time investment. [/color]

Re: Possible FFR Rebirth Project?
Rofl, as fun as that would be, I'm not sure how well that would go over. But honestly, it would be pretty epic to see a commercial showing Dossar AAA'ing Rev Etude/DP, encouraging you to try 8)

Re: Possible FFR Rebirth Project?
in all honesty i would probably think if a commercial was made which my brother actually has the equipment to make a movie so he could do it. But i think that it would be a bad idea to have an AAA of a hard song like that by really anyone. i would probably think a few segments from a few songs would do.

Re: Possible FFR Rebirth Project?
yep that would be good and then we could have a few songs that would be accepted among normal people used. We should try tho to use songs that are no harder than 8 or 9s might scare people away because i showed some one ffr once and AAAed an fmo in front of them and they decided they couldn't get that good so they didn't even begin to play.

Re: Possible FFR Rebirth Project?
rofl I did that once, that's why my friend doesn't play anymore.. Too disappointed in himself. But still, wouldn't be too bad of an idea I guess. I mean, you even said you already have equipment, which is awesome in itself.

Re: Possible FFR Rebirth Project?
If people really wanted to come back. They would.
The people that really loved this place and wanted to be here, came back and are here. New people come in replace of old people, they obviously didn't really enjoy it or want to be here, so they aren't back. Everyone I saw on the forum before the site went down... Still post. It's all the same people, some are missing yes. But i'm sure one of their friends told them the site was back and they had no interest. Cycle of life nigg.

Re: Possible FFR Rebirth Project?
If you think about it, the staff team is already doing things to get more of the older people - and a newer audience to join the site. Blackwebb is in development, slated for release in the "coming future" (aka I don't know when, haha); some of the admins are working on new systems to implement into the game/site, that will make it more popular and welcoming, and more. I'm all for a thread about this though; just tossing in my 2 cents.

Re: Possible FFR Rebirth Project?
My thought, was actually when I was thinking about how FFR used to be a commercial site. Now, I don't want to go completely back to that, but maybe a few advertisements, maybe the ability (somebody posted in FFR suggestions, props to them) to post replays on Facebook. The staff team has been more than busy lately, and I commend them for it. I just want to see if there's anything WE can do. Something we can do as a whole, not just in the separate group of the development team, other than just telling people to play/ showing people the game in person. I want to see things created by US to attract the new and old community back.
@WTFBrandon, there's also a huge amount of people who still think FFR is crashed still. It's not that they don't care about the site, they just don't know. I remember when it crashed, it killed me. 10 months or so later, I decide to type it in one final time, or else I'd finally give up on it returning, and there it was. I was completely oblivious to it being back (10 months isn't a real date, it was actually much later, since the site came back up at least a 3 months after I checked), but when I found out, I was overjoyed to see that it survived.

Re: Possible FFR Rebirth Project?
ways to improve FFR:
- get users off of the complacency pedestal that they're sitting on - get users to be less rude and more welcoming as a whole to everyone, rather than treating certain people like shit - I mean, look at yaboy; he gets targeted left and right for being a douchebag and acts like one because he knows that no one will ever take him seriously. i've never had issues with him on DF; he's a cool person, but that's just me - host more events that involve the community outside of the forums; advertise tournaments with larger prize pools on the front page to get more and more people involved - this will cause newer users to trickle into the forums and more involved with the community just so as long as people are willing to be nice to newer communities - break elitism in a lot of different things, such as segregation of skill levels (which was a good idea in theory, but worked out horribly with people trying to steal the spotlight at the top of the chain), simfiling, etc. - enforce rules as they're written, and follow through with them for everyone, regardless of who they are. There's a lot of people who think they can get away with acting like pricks to anyone/everyone and that will detract users from joining oh wait, why the **** am I spending time typing this message? the same people who i'm targeting as assholes/pricks/morons/idiots are going to be the ones who follow this message with their typical sarcastic shit i'm sorry, but I think that FFR's community is poisoning itself and it will never recover with certain people being in it, and I know that certain staff members feel the same way, so if you feel like calling me out on it, that's perfectly fine |

I agree completely. I would love to host tourneys, but I don't have the credit base to host a large scale one. And noone knows who i am either, but thats a minor detail. Edit: Does anyone have a PNG of just the FFR guy logo so I can make some banners? I could crop it out, but if anyone has one it would make things easier. And also, it's going to suck having you leave. Just figured i would throw that out there as well.

Re: Possible FFR Rebirth Project?
SMO has done a great job in welcoming new players and having a nice community as well as eliminating elitism. They could definitely help.
A very nice addition they have is help sections in the forum for different languages. And it works VERY well. I've seen spanish, japanese, and other languages spoken on this site and it would be great to have people who can speak those languages help out.
