the only FF games i played were 1&2 dawn of souls, 3, 4, 5, 9, and tactics and i thought 9 was good before the game quit on me but i also liked dawn of souls because of the soul of rebirth (after you beat FF2 i believe), i'm starting to play 6 for the gba

Those are all the best ones IMHO. Contributing factors are customization, character mechanics, storyline, what it means to achieve 100%, graphics for that time period, possible item affixes (commonly demonstrated in 10), fighting styles (turn based or real time), difficulty of rare fiends/bosses, and level up systems.

10 holds a special place just because that was the first one I played and I generally liked it for what it did.

Speaking of, I'll probably like 13 if I ever give it the chance because it's kind of like 10's linear path shit that everyone groaned about.

^ currently about half way through 13 and although the linear progression and battle system is dumb, the story is incredible and actually almost makes up for it

i've played 8 and i'm half way done with 4 (im half way through a lot of things), and i play 14 on zodiark server (hit me up if you're there!)

At endgame in 10 it was very cool to be able to jump through to another character's recommended sphere grid (actually they are pretty much sectional per character) like for example I ran a double black mage setup for the entire game in one of my runs and it was a blast. Had Kimahri go straight down into Lulu's section early on, used Lulu who would complete hers and immediately go to Yuna's grid, and Tidus whom would complete his grid and then go down into Yuna's grid. Kimahri would eventually pour into Wakka's grid.

I honestly only played 13 once and it was a blast. I went over a friend's house who was stuck on a certain boss in 13

Cid Raines

and it literally took me two times to beat him meanwhile he crawled in his closet because an overwhelming realization feeling came over him lmao. I like the battle system and the class system in that game specifically, Stagger is such a cool mechanic.

final fantasy 2 was... bad

i've played every numbered final fantasy up to 14, barring ff 11, favorites would have to be 6 and 8
even though the angst was strong in ff8 it was loads better than ff7
ff7 is fucking awful and if you think it deserves it's current spot in rpg history you have either never played it, or there is something severely wrong with you, probably both

I went in FF7 a year ago because I heard "OH IT'S SO GOOD" from many people on the Internet.

So with boredom, I went... "Sure..."

I did finish the game, and my god I have absolutely NO CLUE why the game was praised.

I even tried to look at it if I was still in 1997 and still had no clue.

To me, FF7 felt like there were multiple stories going on and it wasn't focusing on one clear objective. It always felt like I was on a random journey with just one vague goal after the first area (that took 6 hours, my god).
