Default Transistor

May 20'th, two days away omg

This game is going to be sooooo rad. The two or so tracks I've heard from the OST are at least as crunchy as any track from Bastion.

Prepurchase here: http://store.steampowered.com/app/237930/

Not a big fan of the vocal cues every time you try to do something or you finish recharging... a simple icon in the corner indicating you're charged (or even maybe paying attention to the recharge bar up top or the graphic over your head?) would have been plenty. Repetitious vocal cues are the worst lmao

Play Bastion. They accomplish the active narration extremely well.

OK it took me a bit to get used to the gameplay but now i absolutely shred shit and I'm confident I'll get more than twenty bucks worth of joy out of this.

The ability UI is god-awful though. I think they tried to make it console friendly and ended up completely botching the whole thing. There's pretty much no reason I shouldn't be able to drag and drop my methods into slots instead of SELECT FUNCTION -> INSTALL FUNCTION -> BACK are you kidding me

Also sometimes the game locks up for a few seconds, both in and out of combat. Dunno if that's widespread, and I haven't managed to intentionally replicate the issue.

I don't know about the UI with keyboard/mouse since I use a controller, but it works fine for me. I'm also loving the gameplay and the music so far. I had that lock bug happen once and I had another bug where I finished my Turn and ended up doing a Jaunt into the sky and couldn't get back down.

Finished the game. Short, but very sweet. I'm replaying it through to 100% it.

It's pretty good, but I honestly prefer Bastion.

That's interesting, because I think I'm actually preferring Transistor haha.

THAT said, I should probably actually finish Bastion before I fully compare the two

There was just simply more content in Bastion. The side characters were more memorable and the levels were a lot more memorable as well. The city in Transistor us a bit boring and when you finally get out of it you don't stay out for long. Don't get me wrong, I still love Transistor, but I don't think it was as satisfying of an experience.

ya you can I was wrong about that (and only discovered so yesterday), but you can't remove functions the same way. You have to manually uninstall, it won't let you swap them out by dragging or anything. It's still horribly thought out UI but not quite as horrible as I thought.

ps the crunchiest song in the game isn't even on the soundtrack

pps void(), tap(), and cull() are easily the most effective actives, in case anyone was wondering

ppps this is the only game that ever made me say "fuck weed" and "fuck haircuts" out loud

pppps I'm honestly not sure which one I liked more. I think maybe Transistor has the edge in combat complexity, atmosphere, and emotional suckerpunches, but Bastion had marginally filthier tracks, more combat intensity, and a more impactful ending twist.

lots of parallels to draw between the two, if you liked one you can safely purchase the other without any worries.

What does this mean exactly in terms of music? I've never heard this adjective in this context before.

I might buy this game. The art looks interesting.

God damn the processed version of In Circles. I've listened to it multiple times in the test area. I emailed Supergiant about the possibility of adding those to the OST and they basically said no.

I usually use it as a synonym for 'good' when I'm talking about trip-hop or more subdued electronic music. I'm not sure why, I think I heard a friend use it that way long ago and it stuck on me.
