Nor does thinking "I'll just be really abrasively and overwhelmingly friendly and cheerful, and offer a handy insightful tip in every single thread ever whether it warrants one or not" which seems to be the second most common way to try and "get" a modship besides begging for one.

It is just as obvious when someone is going overboard to "prove" their worthiness as it is when they come right out and tell you that is their plan. You need to just already -be- the right type of personality on the forum, you can't just decide to fake it for a while...well, except for Spec.

I've been a mod on a few sites and actually had my own forum with 200+ regular members. I never really saw what the big deal was. Eventually, I just wanted to go back to being a member so I could cause trouble again. Being peacemaker and law enforcer just is not my scene. Not to mention...all people ever do is complain about the things you are doing in order to help them. They just aren't worth it half the time.

I was kidding by that. I know not to beg. I wasn't begging. Obviously, I'm not going to become a mod. Therefor, it's easier to just give up and make it so I can never be a Mod by breaking the don't beg rule. :P
