1 frame perfect mode?
Was reading over some posts today and thought it would be neat if there was a game 'mode' on FFR that allowed you to play with only the middle perfect frame in play. Not sure if it would be better to make this a 'perfect & miss' or 'perfect with early/late perfect frames changed to good'.
Discuss.

Re: 1 frame perfect mode?
it would be very interesting as a way to really utilize how frames work (better than the amazing accuracy in the R2 engine simply in terms of self-improvement and practice).
Changing the other frames to goods would be just the R2 engine's accuracy without the possibility of scoring, though. I'd probably go with perfects and misses simply to emphasize the goal of practicing with this mode, and i doubt with how FFR's health bar works many people will have trouble passing most songs even with a one-frame hitting window. |

Re: 1 frame perfect mode?
What is the current leeway given in frames anyways? I like the idea of this, would be a bit of fun. I think having it as a 3 frame window like Miss-Good-Perfect-Good-Miss would be good, as that way you'd have an idea of how close to the perfect frame you were rather than all or nothing.
That said, maybe you could even do it a bit like ITG and have it so that the late good is labelled as Good+ and the early good is Good-. My offset fluctuates wildly between songs sometimes, that would be really useful for working out where I am on tricky songs. Plus it's always nice to see exactly why you're not hitting perfects |

Not a fan of a 1-frame perfect window idea, and neither would anyone who has issues with keyboards splitting taps on them without any control.
I'd be more of a fan of a timing reduction in the window if the game was ms-based and not frame-based. |

What would be more suitable would be a file running in 60 fps mode, which has all the timing windows reduced in half (so to AAA you'd have to basically be AAAing with mostly mid perfect hits, with some slightly late or early). Now that would be a neat token file. |

Re: 1 frame perfect mode?
I thought it was in order of early to late, av-good-perf-perf-perf-good-good (yes, there are 2 late good frames--thanks Dossar).
But yeah, this would make jump-heavy files atrocious to score on. -1 to this, though I would admit it sounds like a cool idea for a gimmick file. |

Re: 1 frame perfect mode?
Going with igotrhythm, it should be a file rather than a game mode. And a token of course

Re: 1 frame perfect mode?
I had a feeling that this would be the case with frames vs. ms. Interesting idea to work it into a token chart however.

Re: 1 frame perfect mode?
I would recommend doing a average-good-Perfect-good, just a reduced form of the normal setup. And I would like it as a whole game mode, just on one song woulda kinda suck, I mean then you only have one difficulty of file to try it on. That way it's mostly useless.

Re: 1 frame perfect mode?
There's already too much that can get in the way as it is. Lag from the server, lag from your Internet connection, interference with your Internet connection, what OS you are using, what version of your OS you are using, what else you do or don't have installed, how much RAM you have, how fast your processor is, what browser you're using, Flash itself, what version of Flash you are using, how good your graphics card is or if you have one, what keyboard you are using, interference with your keyboard. That's just all off the top of my head.
So, as I see it, the "extra" frames are to account for/offset some of the above. Unless only people with $500 keyboards, 32 GB of RAM, quad-core processors, dedicated expensive graphics card, dedicated fiber-optic Internet connection, using the same ISP and living nearby wherever FFR's servers are located, and with optimum OS and version and optimum browser and version and optimum Flash version for FFR, with an ideal ergonomic desk setup are meant to play it, it's a terrible idea. |

But wouldn't this still matter in multiplayer? Also, are you telling me the game doesn't communicate with the server AT ALL during when you are actually playing it but only after, to record the score? |

Re: 1 frame perfect mode?
I would like this as a PA practice mode but definitely not a token.
If you want to add more tokens, my request would be more Gaussian Blur type riddle tokens. |

All loading is done before gameplay, and saving is done on the results screen only. This is also why you can load a song 100%, then disconnect your internet and still play the same song over and over as it's already loaded. But scores won't record of course. |
