No. It would make loading times much longer, and it would also be boring...

not to the game only to get into the site like you enter the url and the movie plays and it goes to the main screen kinda like www.homestarrunner.com

That would be pointless. Just another button to click.

I like this idea.
1)Take a cut version of SGX-Activity Unbroken. Play it in background. 2)Beginning would be a thing like "Synthlight Presents..." 3)And then it shows a little soundwave thing like in the menu background..Then another appears, then another, then another, and then other parts of the backgound menu star appearing and stuff etc... 4)BAM! Big flash of light, an then it starts showing stuff from gameplay (selecting songs, accepting challenge, arrows moving, etc) while it say stuff in letters like "Deafeat your opponents" and "Gain more songs" and "Master The Arrows" and stuff.. 5)Another blinding flash, and "FLASH FLASH REVOLUTION" appears in big letters, as a cool announcer voice says "F! F! R!!!" Super Smash Brothers-style. Those that don't wanna see it can click the "Dont Wanna See Intro" button during the loading screen, saving time, and of course a "Skip Intro" during the intro. |

That "F!F!R!" sounds really funny, but the intro would only cool to new people. It'd be really lame to the regulars. Also it'd be a waste of time that could be used working on R2 or .68 (even if Synth doesn't do the flash animation, whoever did it would have enough skillz to help Synth)

An intro for the game is a good idea, and just so it doesn't make it annoying to see it every time you start, I have a solution: have the engine run the intro the first time you play it, and every time after that it will skip the intro. However, there will be a button on the main screen interface to replay the intro. Many games have used this, like Starcraft and Diablo II.

i say no. as afrobean said, it would mostly only appeal to new people, and they dont come around often enuf to find how annoying it is. it takes pages a long ass time to load anyways b/cs of the huge number of people coming here, and a flash intro would 1) take forever to load, no matter how big or small, 2) make you have to click past it, so even if you didnt wait for the intro to load you'd have a 2nd page to load which means more loading. finally, i'd like to say that more load time is bad, very bad. dont do a flash intro.

So I've gone completely slack-ass and haven't done any work on creating games. =( In less-depressing news, I got a job for an online business (which sells non-electronic games, of all things!) which has taught me a lot about marketing online and all that jazz. So now I'm on Twitter @NoahWright. And I write the blog for their website. Plus I do cool programming in-house that you'll never see. =O |

Ok, now of course there are intros for any type of game out there on the internet... The R2 engine will be small in size so that the flash intro would not add onto it that much...
But does it really need an intro to make it better then it already looks? -----Soccr743----- |

I guess ultima's idea is pretty good but wouldn't that increase the engines size and therefore increase load time everytime even if you don't watch it?

Yes it would afrobean... Unless the page is a php page which would check for a cookie and then load the correct swf depending on if you have seen it...

Wouldn't that use up more bandwidth? Having two identical engines but one having an intro. It would be double and then some, wouldn't it?

Why would it?
Php does not load both and then put one out... Php would be interpreted by the server and then spit out the correct html depending on whether the cookie says it has been played or not yet... The < object > tag in the html would either contain the right info for the one with the intro or the one with out it... Or there could be one engine and have the variable embed in the object tag code that says whether it has been seen or not. Then the intro could be in a seperate swf and loaded into flash... -----Soccr743----- |

Meh, a whole flash intro is too much. How about a simple title screen... nah, the loading screen already seems to take care of that

Although, if you guys really want to, I'm sure Synthlight is able to put a replay button so everyone can re-watch the whole loading sequence again.
