Definitely need help with virus
First of all, no. You don't need to crack a joke, this wasn't my fault one bit. Also, as far as antivirus programs go, I have the following: AVG Free 8.5, Windows Defender, and Malwarebyte.
I've dealt with a virus or two before, but this thing is very hard to work around. As soon as my computer starts up and I log in, it automatically changes my background to some stupid warning with poor grammar. Then from there, it only allows me to open a few programs (I got irritated when I couldn't open FF, luckily I can get on IE). When I say it only allows certain programs, whenever I try to open anything else some stupid warning bubble pops up in the bottom right reading "Application cannot be executed. The file [random file here] is infected. Please activate your antivirus software." Any strong suggestions, anyone? I can elaborate if I need to, thank you. edit: I have tried right-clicking a program such as AVG to look at its properties so that I could copy the "Target" in order to copy/paste it into the Run option in the Start menu. This only yields the same result. Last edited by Highwind810; 07-6-2009 at 01:41 AM.. |

Re: Definitely need help with virus
When I a virus from watching random porno movies (JK just surfin' random websites) I got a popup saying i needed this program to kick out the virus. So I went and downloaded Stopzilla and everything is okay, good yes. Hope this helps.

Stopzilla? I can go try that I guess. The only problem is, I went back to AVG's website and just went to the random selection of free trials and I clicked to download one of them. If I choose to Run it, it loads and then nothing. If I save it to my desktop and try to open it, the same thing happens that happens with the programs it won't allow me to run.

Re: Definitely need help with virus
System restore works wonders~~~
At least it's helped me 100% with anything I've ever got >_> ps, if you don't know, it's a windows installed thing, so you don't need any new programs to use it, it's located in the start menu under accessories > system tools Last edited by [TeRa]; 07-6-2009 at 01:51 AM.. |

As I mentioned, I so far cannot download any new programs online without this thing interfering. |

On top of this, I can't open up Task Manager with good ol' Ctrl Alt Delete. edit: So I went under Accessories etc. where System Restore is, and the virus won't let me open it. It continues to insist that the file "avgsrx.exe" is the infected file preventing me from doing anything, which has to do with AVG. I'm just gonna edit this post again so I'm not triple-posting, but something interesting. I don't know if you guys have had this happen, but while I'm going around FFR's site, being the non-subscriber that I am, I'll randomly get navigated away from my page to some stupid advertisement. But from then on I'll always get some stupid notice making sure I want to navigate away from my page, even if I'm just refreshing. ... Is this relevent? (The notice that pops up is only when I'm on FFR's site.) Also, doubt it matters, but there are a few updates that Windows is asking me to do; not suddenly, they've been there for a little while. Would those help at all..? Thanks again guys, by the way. Last edited by Highwind810; 07-6-2009 at 02:00 AM.. |

Re: Definitely need help with virus
Not sure if you saw what I added into the post. If you really don't have access to that, then I'm all out of help x_x
Edit: Oh, you did see it, posted before refreshing to see your post oops. There are a few people that are good with getting rid of viruses on the site, I'm sure you'll be able to get rid of it once one of them see's this thread. Last edited by [TeRa]; 07-6-2009 at 01:59 AM.. |

Re: Definitely need help with virus
I know, I know... This did occur to me, but this lovely virus decided it wanted to shut down all of my processes and let me sit at a screen where I could do literally nothing until I manually turned off my tower... Looking into it, thanks...

Re: Definitely need help with virus
i had something like this except it was PersonalAV
just go onto somone elses computer, type your virus into google and itll tell you how to remove it. do whatever it says and then go back to your own computer and deal with it. in my case i had to download a certain malewayrebite or something and burn onto a cd and take it back to my own computer.

Re: Definitely need help with virus
I ended up rebooting my computer in Safe Mode, which I honestly didn't know existed. From there I tried doing System Restore, but it wasn't restarting the computer when I prompted it to. But I was able to use my antivirus, Malwarebyte, in Safe Mode. Fortunately, everything appears to be as it should. Glad I learned something new for future reference. Thanks again everyone.

Why don't you just search the name of the virus? I'm assuming that you know this... Most security sites will have a detailed outline of how to get rid of the virus. This has always worked for me.
