They're already caught and dealt with as fast as they can be, aren't they? Or so I thought..Only so much they can do. Not like they're gonna know before it's discovered that someone's gonna use a bot.

Maybe we could have "janitors" whose sole power is to delete bot bumps or threads? Not enforcing forum rules, but just be online when most mods are not to keep the situation under control.

The process of dealing with bots (to what I've been told) is different than dealing with regular users.

It's a thing of where when you get one you usually get more than one off that IP so it's rather time consuming. Trust me the mods / admins have been doing the best they can.

Though maybe adding someone for the sole purpose of Bot cleaning might be a good idea. Might take some of the pressure of the others. So I'm honestly for it.

It's already in place plus add in the fact new accounts can't post for I think it's 24 - 48 hours after creation

there's a lot already in place. But somehow they're getting passed it. That's the part I don't know is how they get through all of that lol

Default A Homage to bmah

In the year 1943 there was this guy that could teleport between dimensions. He mainly resided in one entirely made out of fruit and vegetables, but he didn't care because everyone that lived there was part-vegan. Then why does tofu serve as an alternative to ice cream at all? Maybe it could be from the lack of potatoes in this weird little dimension. I think his build was that of a Typhlosion, except with pitch black fur, and his neck spurted Froot Loops instead of fire. He was an outcast that could not survive in the Pokémon World, but only in his own dimension. But in reality, he was no different from any other Typhlosion. He spurted 400 degree fire from his neck, was wild, dangerous, and...was surprisingly good at FFR. Then a week later, he went on to miss out on a AAA of J'ai Envie de Plaisir X2, and recieved great praise from all the other wild Pokémon in his region. The only problem? The region doesn't exist...it's all in his head. That and he's AAAA'ed MAX 301 too many times. He's trying to AAAAA the file, but there's that one part of the song that he never got the mixdown correct in time, so he has to slow down the song to a negative number just so he can use the rewind function in his Pioneer. But when he tried to do that, he de-evolved back to a Quilava from sleeping on the back button for an hour too long. Then again, it did make him proud to be a teenager again. He was going to cherish this new body of his for all it's worth; sure it was smaller but he didn't care. One year later, he finds a mate and they have about three children. This story makes absolutely zero sense and was thrown together in about an hour or two. But seriously, I know a bot when I see one without a care what language it's in. I remember checking the "newest profile" bit and the username could have resembled that of a bot, but I'm unsure. Why spam about the latest fictional add-on for the 3DS, the dumbest way to download files to your computer and whoring yourself out for wild sex, when you could spam about this one free offer on Xbox 360 that was sent to you by one of these bots, with the intent to cripple you, the person playing Leisure Suit Larry: Box Office Bust at 1 in the morning? I don't know if the mods are being quick enough to delete these kinds of posts. Maybe we could have a bot account on here, that just goes around looking for spambot comments and deletes them. And if we notice that one of our comments was deleted by mistake, we can PM the bot account and ask it to restore the deleted post(s). Oh, and all of the links are legitimate.

Hey, I didn't know Spambots could make threads as well. They seem to be getting around that little mechanism as well...I don't know, maybe we could have some fun with them...coming up with essay-length word salads and actually posting them, IMO, is much easier than acquiring a spambot to clutter up the forums with posts that serve no point or purpose at all. But on second though, the word salads are just as pointless. IDK...it seems the more posts of theirs we delete, the more ways they find to get through that line of security on here.

There's already all the stuff in place for bots at signup, this has been mentioned several times already. "Bots" aren't always bots, companies hire real people to get around capcha and email verifications. We usually get to the bots pretty quickly unless it's overnight and even then they usually don't last all that long. Putting someone on only to delete posts from bots doesn't work because if they aren't banned they keep posting.

The bot threads are ridiculously annoying. They have been getting pretty frequent lately. Seriously, I don't care about Louis Vuitton handbags or NFL Jerseys :/

Maybe you could copy differrnt parts of the bots' messages and either delete automatically messages that contain them or flat out ban the users posting them for an undertermined period of time, writing that if this is an accident please email mod@flashflash.com (case by case, will give time to mods to evaluate the situation and, besides, bots won't send message anyway to justify themselves). Maybe it's a bit drastic, but I think the risks are low for the established users to encounter problems with that if large portions of the messages are kept in memory and not just short sentences. Maybe the links should be kept in memory, too. So, over the next few weeks, the more they post and the more you know them so they'll eventually ban themselves everytime.

Got this idea from my biology class on how our body's lymphocytes catch viruses. :P feel free to disagree or play with this idea.

Hence why I said memorize "large parts" of the original messages!

Ok, here is my idea as to how the ban's should work for the bots:

1. Elect a group of people to be the pseudo-mods

2. Give them the power to temporarily ban the bots just to keep them from posting

3. The names of the pseudo-mods' bans should show up to the real mods, like in a list somewhere, and they should decide if the bot is to be totally banned.

This will just basically hold the bots off until a mod comes around to ban the bot completely. Just my $0.02

Just report the bot posts when you see them and the mods will take care of it. There's no way to completely eradicate them without harshly inconveniencing real users.

It's a larger hassle for the actual moderators because you have to be able to ban the spambots to stop them from posting. Simply deleting posts does nothing, and a user won't have the power to ban unless they have full moderator status, which is something that shouldn't be handed out like candy. Local moderators can't ban bots and honestly, shouldn't be able to.

EDIT:

It's as simple as what rushy said, truly.
