Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War
I wish I could convey to you, the reader, in words why this is the greatest RTS I've played in a long time. I wish instead of using words, I could just use still shots or videos of gameplay to demonstrate the glorious and epic fast-paced science fiction combat. There is no such image or video to be found (though the Cinematic Intro can be).
Starcraft wishes it was this cool. The graphics, the theme, the voices, the gameplay, the replayability, the customization, the music...The most lacking department is the storyline, but like Ong Bak, you just don't even CARE. This game wins the Omega Seal of Excellence, and gets a WAAAAGH out of 10. Sincerely, Omeganitros P.S. |

I played the demo, I play it a lan center near me, but I have never bought it.
Also the intro animation is the most awesome thing ever.

Re: Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War
I was surprised myself at how much the actual gameplay is a lot like the intro. The intro really sets the mood, and it just gets cooler from there.

Re: Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War
Oh, MAN. I just finished Mission 6, and I gotta say, this is the ultimate beat-all combo:
Completely Upgraded and Fully Reinforced Space Marine Squad + 4 Missle Launchers + Completely Upgraded Squad Sargeant + Apocathary WITH Completely Upgraded and Fully Reinforced Space Marine Squad + 4 Plasma Cannons + Completely Upgraded Squad Sargeant + Completely Upgraded Force Commander It's only two squads, but they're absolutely DEVASTATING. While the Apocathary hangs in the back with the missle launchers and safely heals everyone, the Force Commander's squad fills the infantry up with lead before they even get close, and if they DO get close, the Force Commander goes "SPACE MARINES, CHAAAAAAARRGE!" and goes Melee and they're effing dead. Plus, if they run into any light vehicles, The Force Commander squad can take the brunt of the force while the Apocathary's squad nails it with Missles. I think this combo is even more devastating than the Librarian Squad + Force Commander Squad, even if the Librarian has Word of the Emperor. Edit: Above combo applies when more than 25% of the enemy's infanty is Heavy Infantry. If it's all light infantry, use Flamers isntead of Plasma Cannons (Heavy Bolters may be tempting, but then both squads can't be moblie while shooting). Re: Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War
It took 8 years to outcool starcraft.
Starcrafts classic multiplayer gameplay still owns. However, this game is really good. That and for som reason the eldar remind me of protoss. I also think they're the strongest XD why it isn't as good as sc: ****ty single player ****ty imbalance between races online, which is essentially why sc is still the most popular rts in the world. It is incredibly well balanced. The patches help but it's still really imba xD

Re: Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War
Man....The Assault Terminators aren't nearly as powerful as I thought they would be. I was expecting them to be like, Dreadnought-like powerful, but all it took was a few Eldar Ranger squads to pick them off one by one, PLUS they don't have a Sergeant, so once the Rangers broke their morale, there was no Rally to save them.

Re: Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War
Total Annihilation > StarCraft > that (more than likely) > WC3.
Sorry, but SC was my life for 5 years, TA for one (before I had to reformat and couldn't find my disks again), and WC3 for one as well. Btw, the only good thing about WC3 is that the editor is zomgwtfpwnage, if it wasn't for the insane customs it wouldn't be worth playing over SC because the ladder in it is imbalanced as hell. Oh, and TA was possibly the greatest game I ever played. Mine glitched during install and made it so I didn't need a CD to play, and I ended up losing the CDs.

Re: Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War
I think I played this at somebody's house once. It seemed really cool. If I remember correctly, units missed. I love RTSes where units miss.
And that opening movie is indeed orgasmic. But units missing things is better. I should really get this game sometime... Oh yeah, orcs + guns = LOL.

Re: Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War
You'd LOVE this game, eb. The artillery units are SO inaccurate, you can only use them as general support for sending infantry flying through the air, because there's almost no chance of specifically hitting something you target.

Re: Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War
I just picked this up earlier today. I'd seen a couple of my friends play it at their houses but I never really picked it up. I used to play the REAL Warhammer 40k. You know, the one with the dice, and ping pong table battlefields etc. Tau ftw, can't wait for the expansion this October I'm for sure getting it. I'm only on like mission four right now but I'm picking this game up quite easily. Magnificent gameplay, it completely outdoes SC for me. Oh and Elder=Protoss+Night Elves.
ps: Bump. Didn't wanna make a new thread. Last edited by scorpio1690; 09-4-2006 at 12:20 PM.. |

Re: Warhammer 40k: Dawn of War
Ya I just started playing WA today because I wanted to beat the DoW Campaign first and I actually really enjoy the Imperial Guard. They're like Orks and Eldar combined, but with the Banesblade. Too bad it sucks against buildings, that's the only thing they really lack. They're alot better than what they were made out to be in DoW eh?
