Also, how would it confuse new players? New users generally sign up to play the game if they aren't bots. Most new users would get past the req without even knowing it.

I like the "play one song" requirement too. It's simple, and it would keep most of the bots. The one thing it wouldn't take care of would be the "human" bots someone mentioned earlier, but they should be around in fewer numbers than the automated bots.
