How to add/change Speedmods in SM5?
I know this has been asked a million times, and I've read and tried everything I could to add speedmods, but I don't know why it's not working for me. I want to get back into SM, and SM5 looks sweet, but this is a huge turnoff.
A pic of my Speedmods in the Speedmods folder. Now a pic of the speedmods I get in game. No matter what I put in the speedmods folder, this is what I always get to choose from. I don't know if it's different now, but from what I read, all you had to do was change/add speedmods in the folder. Help? Last edited by Poison-; 07-5-2012 at 10:18 PM.. |

depends. is that your App Data folder?
in my case...its C:/documents and settings/TJ/App Data/Stepmania 5/Save/Local Profile/00000000 inside that is another speedmod txt file. edit that and it should work. i had the same dilemma

It's the Data folder in the Stepmania 5 folder. I change it but it doesn't do anything to the speedmods in-game.

They should make easier instruction manuals for cases like these.

im horrible at explaining things also..:/
this is the best i got. yea...you have to change your application data speedmod.txt file. if your on windows 7: C:\Users\Username\AppData\Roaming then look for the stepmania folder if your on XP like me then navigate to: C:/documents and settings/username/App Data/Stepmania 5/Save/Local Profile/00000000 just for reference on XP:

Type %appdata% in your start menu, then go to the Stepmania folder, then Saves, then Machine Data, and ta-da! Also, make sure your C's are uppercase, not lowercase.

your Appdata directory may be hidden. yay, windows. try this:
Start > All programs > StepMania 5 > Open SM5 Settings Folder and then follow raskanally's steps from there. |

Yeah it was hidden. Wow that was pretty complicated for a task that I thought would just be simple. Thanks for the help guys.

no problemo. I feel like the method for adding speedmods on SM5 would be much more convenient than the old way if Windows weren't dumb.

Re: How to add/change Speedmods in SM5?
There is a custom speed mod creator being worked on for SM5 Tournament Edition. It isn't ready yet, but getting there. Not sure if it'll be included in regular version or not; I'll go ask that next time I see Freem.

Re: How to add/change Speedmods in SM5?
This definitely should be an in-game feature; I ran into the same problems as OP did and I'm a supposed computer professional. Having two apparently identical versions of the same file, but making the more easily-found one totally useless, is not very user-friendly.

wow that's smart. good call. sweet! sounds like something that should have been in the cards from the very beginning. speedmods are something that must be dealt with on the user's end, so why does this action require tinkering around with configuration files? the SM3.9 devs should have stolen R2's cmod slider years ago. |
