Re: I got a graphic design job...
Not sure where this poster is suppose to be used since it wasn't specified. But if it is suppose to be a standalone poster, where you just stick it out on streets or internet ad's or even brochures here's what you should focus on.
Make it simple and memorable. Its not that you cannot put in fancy effects or w.e. text stuff you can add, I don't even know anything about typography but if I cannot read it in one glance and know what you are trying to sell me I have bad news for you. Of course this comment is a bit over critical for anything casual, but 'graphic design job' is where you design the graphic related material for you client, doesn't matter if it is your dad, you are the designer, not him. If you do not like it, it usually means you think you can make it better for the cause, then go for it.

Re: I got a graphic design job...
I hope I'm not annoying or nagging you writing this, don't take this the wrong way
Zoom out to see the big picture. Even if your client does like it, you are the professional doing the job here (the client is paying you for your expertise in the field, you would know better than him/her what works and is effective. He gives you the basic idea of what he wants, you present to him results and maybe propose ideas and alternatives) I'm no expert in this, but I think the other members summed up the critiques on it. Looking at the big picture, if this was a banner, you want it to be as clear as possible to get the message across. If a passerby takes one quick glance at it, can he/she read it clearly? People won't stop and read/ponder over every banner they see, so it has to be as legible as possible. Unfortunately even reading the 3d text on my PC screen now gives me trouble making it out. Legibility IMO, is more important than making it fancy to stand out. If its so over the top and fanciful but people can't read the message then it loses its point My 0.02$ Last edited by LongGone; 08-6-2011 at 04:53 AM.. |

Re: I got a graphic design job...
K I won the game Anyways ignore below green line, the whole emboss part is just cuz lazy. This is for a professional meeting, imagine Donald Trumph being showed this in a room with Obama and random upsidedown 3D text appears. Ain't no pokeball that can save you then. Below line, check my signature and OILERS profile pic, imagine the SITELINE logo in it and the slogain of your choice below the text instead of stretched blue.... Anyways that's my 2$. Beats 2 cent.

Even better, you can make the logo a GIF of being clicked. Like a LINK.

Re: I got a graphic design job...
This entire thread has been you making excuses as to why you can't make any improvements on your poster, which in my opinion, is borderline terrible.
Regardless of the circumstances, or your experience, your client came to you looking to get a job done, and you better put all the effort you have to make this poster the best it can be. It doesn't matter if he likes it, it is a very poor graphic design job and you know that just as much as everyone else does, and I think that you are using your clients approval as a justification for not having any more work to do.

Re: I got a graphic design job...
quigly nailed exactly everything in his post
you haven't even -ATTEMPTED- to fix your poster let alone make other concepts and variations. No one, and I mean NO ONE, sticks with their very first concept and goes with it all the way through without designing other variations I don't ****ing care how much money you're making off of this or whether you're doing this job for your dad, put some effort into it. fix it until it's good

Re: I got a graphic design job...
I do realize I'm being harsh, but it's the only way he'll actually BOTHER to do anything with what he has
